LSU Sports Information By: Alyssa Leal BATON ROUGE – After a perfect 5-0 weekend hosting the LSU Beach Invitational, the Tigers (16-2) held steady as the No. 3 team in the AVCA Coaches Poll for the third consecutive week. This is the 10th poll in a row that LSU has been featured inside the top-three, dating back to the final poll of the 2019 season. LSU won its only match against a ranked opponent over the weekend against No. 16 South Carolina in a battle of the only two SEC schools with beach volleyball programs. The Gamecocks are ranked No. 15 in this week's poll. Florida State (17-0) and USC (10-0) remained as the nation's top two teams and UCLA came in at No. 4. LSU has a bye week before heading to the west coast next weekend for a Saturday double-header at UCLA and a Sunday double-header at USC. Florida State will make the same trip out west, competing against UCLA and USC on the opposite days as LSU, meaning the nation's top four teams for the entirety of the season so far will be competing in Los Angeles that weekend. "To have two weeks to really get after it and to focus on some things we can be better at before we have a really big test is a huge opportunity," said head coach Russell Brock. "We don't get this opportunity very often. We're looking forward to the chance to build on what we saw." LSU Sports Information By: Judy Willson BATON ROUGE --- LSU sophomore Ingrid Lindblad added the Golfweek Women’s College Golf Player of the Week to her list of accolades today. The national honor was announced on Monday afternoon on the publication’s website. Lindblad earned her first win of the season on Sunday at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia. The native of Halmstad, Sweden, finished the weekend with a 4-under 212 total. It is her seventh Top-10 finish of the season, hitting the mark in every tournament played so far in the 2020-21 season. Lindblad capped the tournament with consecutive birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 to claim the victory. She started the tournament with a course and school record 8-under 64 in the first round. The school mark puts her in a three-way tie for best single low round in Tiger history. Lindblad will continue to make LSU history next week as the first Tiger to compete in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, March 31-April 3, before the 2021 LSU Tiger Golf Classic, April 6-7 at the University Club in Baton Rouge. 3/15/2021 LSU Sports Information By: Colin Gunther Baton Rouge, La. – Eighteen LSU track and field received All-America honors for their performances at the NCAA Championships. "You never want to lose, but if you're going to, losing now (in week 2) is definitely the time to do it. We still have a great team and I know the team is excited, not about the loss, but about the perspective of how good we are and how good we're going to be. "If anything, it will help us work harder, it will help us work more focused, it will help us work more effectively as we look to get better in the next months." LSU is back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. No. 19 Georgia State before wrapping up the Tiger Beach Challenge against Houston Baptist at 6 p.m. The matches will air on Cox Sports Television. LSU Sports Information By: Grant Kauvar BATON ROUGE – The No. 1 Tigers are set to welcome four teams, three ranked, to LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium for the Tiger Beach Challenge this weekend. No. 1 LSU (4-0) will host No. 2 Florida State (6-0), No. 11 Florida Atlantic (3-1) , No. 19 Georgia State (2-2) and Houston Baptist (1-3) for a weekend that will consist of 10 total matches. This may be the most stacked lineup of teams ever to visit LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium for a single weekend. LSU has hosted two ranked teams for the same event once before, but never have the Tigers hosted three ranked teams in the same weekend. Every team at the Tiger Beach Challenge this weekend will play a unique style of beach volleyball, both offensively and defensively. Cox Sports Television will broadcast seven of the matches. Their coverage will primarily feature the one's and four's pairs of each match they broadcast. Jeff Palermo will be the play-by-play announcer with Andrew Beyer as his color analyst. A full list of the weekend's matches can be found at the bottom of this page. The top-ranked Tigers will play FAU Saturday at 11:30 a.m. CT before taking on Florida State at 7 p.m. Saturday night under the lights for a showdown of the nation's top two teams. This is the second year in a row that LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium will be the site of a No. 1 vs. No. 2 match. Last February, LSU defeated then No. 1 UCLA in front of a record crowd and the Tigers have been ranked No. 1 ever since. On Sunday LSU will face No. 19 Georgia State at 1 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend against HBU at 6 p.m., a team the Tigers defeated twice last weekend. LSU announced earlier this week that it will allow limited general admission vouchers for each individual match for the remainder of the season. Vouchers will be available an hour and a half prior to the start of each given match and will be on a first come first serve basis. If a match begins at 7 p.m., the first voucher will be given out at 5:30 p.m. Each fan is limited to one voucher and must be present in order to receive it. LSU Sports Information By: Scott Woodward Dear LSU Athletics Community: Today, Husch Blackwell, the law firm retained by LSU to conduct a comprehensive review of the University's handling of past sexual and domestic assault cases—including those involving student athletes — released a detailed report of its findings. I encourage you to read the report in its entirety (PDF), as its findings are an important step in the journey and commitment by LSU to create a safer community for all who call LSU home. You have my unwavering commitment that our department must, and we will, do better. As just one part of a greater institution, it is important that we, as an athletics department, work with the University to move forward to make our campus safe for everyone. I want you to know that we fully support the recommendations suggested by Husch Blackwell and the steps taken by President Galligan to address the shortcomings of the past and to invest resources into strengthening University structures. Working in lockstep with the University, we will continue to seek ways to ensure that all incidents involving athletics are reported, survivors supported, and perpetrators held accountable for their actions. Throughout this challenging year, LSU Athletics has spent significant time evaluating the priorities of our athletics program. As part of our examination, we recognized that we needed a stronger commitment to staff, coach, and student athlete training and education; a renewed emphasis on fostering a healthy, respectful climate; improved accountability across the board; and increased collaboration with our campus and our community partners. Those priorities have resulted in an investment in staff, resources and comprehensive education. With our commitment to doing better, our action has already begun:
We believe these actions, as well as today's release of the Husch Blackwell report, are initial steps in the right direction as we transform our thinking from compliance to culture change. The work to combat sexual and domestic violence, to improve reporting and education, to further support survivors, and to earn the trust of all in the LSU community is never-ending. I expect all of our staff, coaches, and student athletes to engage with this work, and I will accept nothing less. Our commitment to change will be more than a statement. It will be backed by action, with input from survivors, advocates, and the community. We have and we will continue to dedicate ourselves to that work, as we seek to become a model department in these life-changing areas. Scott Woodward Director of Athletics 3/4/2021 LSU Sports Information By: Brandon Berrio BATON ROUGE – No. 3 LSU (4-3, 3-3 SEC) returns to the PMAC for the first time in nearly a month to take on No. 22 Missouri (3-4, 2-4) in the regular season finale at 7:15 p.m. CT Friday. The meet will be streamed live through SECNetwork+ at WatchESPN.com and the app. Lyn Rollins and former LSU gymnast Kaleigh Dickson Abboud will call the action. It also marks the final meet together for LSU’s seniors in the PMAC. The group will be recognized during intros. LSU will also recognize the 2020 class - Ashlyn Kirby, Kennedi Edney and Ruby Harrold. The trio was not properly recognized last year due to their final meet being canceled because of COVID-19. The meet is officially sold out with a limited number of student tickets available at the PMAC ticket office prior to doors opening at 6:15 p.m. Fans are encouraged to visit stubhub.com, the official ticket marketplace of LSU Athletics. The same PMAC guidelines from the two previous home meets are still in place. Fans will be required to wear face masks and there will be up to 25 percent capacity in the arena with fans physically distanced. A comprehensive and updated list of COVID-19 related changes can be found here. Clark Previews the Meet "This is obviously a really important time in our season and a turning point for this team," head coach Jay Clark said. "We are right on the cusp of postseason and to the point where the lineup you see will be the lineup for SEC's beyond. It is really important to get a win for our senior class and to go into postseason with some momentum." Last Time Out LSU scored a disappointing 196.800 in the loss to Kentucky in Lexington. The Tigers showed promise on vault but were unable to put up consistent performances across the board. LSU scored a 49.600 on vault for the second highest score in the nation and fourth highest in school history. Individually, LSU gymnasts put up some of their top performances this season. Sophomores Alyona Shchennikova and Kiya Johnson took the vault title. Shchennikova captured added beam and freshman Haleigh Bryant earned the win on floor. Final Meet for LSU’s Seniors Although most have not made a decision either way, this is expected to be the final meet in the PMAC for LSU’s six seniors - Reagan Campbell, Christina Desiderio, Sarah Edwards, Sami Durante, Bridget Dean and Olivia Gunter. The group has an extra year of eligibility if they wish to take it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In four years, the group has won two SEC Championships and been to two NCAA Championships, finishing fourth in 2018 and second in 2019. The group has helped lead LSU to 79 wins and numerous memorable moments. Tigers in the Rankings The LSU gymnastics team is third in the first week of National Qualifying Score (NQS) rankings, according to Road To Nationals. The Tigers own an NQS of 197.550 this season, which is second behind Florida (197.944) and Oklahoma (197.738). LSU’s NQS ranking is an average of the top two home scores of 198.050 and 197.200 and away scores of 197.550 and 197.325. As a team, LSU ranks second in the nation on bars, third on vault, fourth on beam and sixth on floor. LSU is one of just two teams in the country to score a 49.600 or higher on vault. The Tigers did it against Kentucky, which marked the fourth-highest vault score in school history. Individually, freshman Haleigh Bryant ranks second on floor, eighth on vault and sixth in the all-around. Sophomores Kiya Johnson and Alyona Shchennikova rank in the top-20 on both vault and bars. Freshman Olivia Dunne is 21st on bars. Seniors Sami Durante and Sarah Edwards rank seventh on bars and 17th on vault respectively.
