With the field now set, No. 11 seed LSU will kick off competition at the beach against No. 6 seed Auburn (12-2-4, 4-2-4 SEC) on Sunday. This will be the second time that the two Tigers face off this season, as LSU fell to Auburn earlier this month. The match is set to kick off at 2 p.m. CT on SEC Network with Alex Pearlman and Marion Crowder on the call. The winner of the match will advance to quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 5 and take on No. 3 Texas at 2 p.m. CT. All tournament matches will be aired on SEC Network. The bracket with match dates and times can be found here. The 2024 SEC Soccer Tournament will run from November 3 - November 10 at the Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex in Pensacola, Florida. Weil COLLEGE STATION, TX - What a disappointing night for the Purple & Gold faithful on Saturday night as LSU fell to the Texas A&M Aggies on the road, 38-23. After leading 17-7 at halftime, LSU found themselves out played and out coached in the second half of the game. Garrett Nussmeier played his worse game of the season, going 25-50 for 405 yards with two touchdown passes and three costly interceptions. The LSU running game sputtered terribly, as the Tigers only rushed for 24 yards on 23 carries. Caden Durham finished with 15 yards on 11 carries, while Josh Williams rushed seven times for 23 yards. LSU had zero rushing yards in the second half. Kyren Lacy led the Tigers with five catches for 106 yards. Caden Durham had four catches for 56 yards. Aaron Anderson finished with 126 yards and a touchdown on three catches. Mason Taylor added three grabs for 21 yards and a touchdown. Chris Hilton Jr. finally saw his first game action of the season, catching two passes for 36 yards. The defense played well until Texas A&M head coach Mike Elco decided to replace Aggie quarterback Conner Weigman with dual threat quarterback Marcel Reed. The gamble paid off as the quarterback change sparked the Texas A&M offense. LSU had no answer for Reed, as he rushed for 62 yards and three touchdowns. Texas A&M rushed for 242 total yards with five rushing scores. Bradyn Swinson finished with seven tackles and a sack. Whit Weeks had seven tackles on the night. Greg Penn III had six tackles and a sack. A week after winning the SEC Special Teams Plater of the Week, Damian Ramos missed two field goals and a third attempt failed due to an errant snap. After the game began with back to back punts, LSU got on the scoreboard first. The Tigers drove 86 yards on 11 plays, but had to settle for a 23 yard Damian Ramos field goal after the drive stalled at the Aggies' six yard line. 3-0 LSU with 6:15 left in the first quarter. On A&M's next possession, Le'veon Bell fumbled and Jardin Gilbert recovered the ball for LSU at the Aggies' 36. A personal foul on Texas A&M moved the ball to the 21 yard line. LSU took full advantage of the turnover. Four plays and 21 yards later, the Bayou Bengals took a 10-0 lead when Garrett Nussmeier found Mason Taylor in the end zone for a two yard touchdown. Texas A&M responded with a 9 play, 74 yard drive, scoring on a seven yard touchdown run by Le'veon Bell. 10-7, LSU with only seven seconds left in the opening quarter. LSU began their next possession at their own 20, as we moved to the second quarter and drove 49 yards in ten plays. The Tigers came away empty handed when Damian Ramos missed a 48 yard field goal attempt. LSU was able to extend their lead late in the second quarter when Nussmeier hit Aaron Anderson on a slant route and Anderson outraced the A&M defense for a 76 yard touchdown. 17-7, Tigers with 4:55 left in the first half. Neither teams could manage another score over the final 4:55 of the half. LSU would take a 17-7 lead into the half time break. With 8:17 left in the third quarter, Garrett Nussmeier forced a throw into coverage and it was intercepted by BJ Mays at the LSU 35 who returned the ball to the LSU eight yard line. On the next play, A&M quarterback Marcel Reed took it into the end zone for the score. With 8:10 left in the third quarter, Texas A&M cut the LSU lead to 17-14. LSU then drove 35 yards on nine plays, but blew a scoring opportunity when LSU had an errant snap on a field goal attempt. A&M responded with a seven play, 60 yard drive, taking their first lead of the contest on a eight yard touchdown run by Marcel Reed. 21-17, Aggies with 1:00 left in the third quarter. Nussmeier threw another interception on LSU's next possession, setting up Texas A&M on the Tigers' 26 yard line. Five plays later, Marcel Reed would score his third touchdown of the game on a four yard run. 28-17, Aggies with 14:07 left in the contest. LSU answered with a nine play, 78 yard drive, culminating with a one yard quarterback sneak by Nussmeier for a touchdown. The Tigers failed at a two point conversion attempt. With 9:57 left in the game, A&M now led 28-23. Texas A&M came right back to increase their lead, quickly moving 75 yards in only four plays. Le'Veon Bell scored on a three yard touchdown run, putting the Aggies up, 35-23 with 8:09 left. The meltdown continued on LSU's next possession when Nussmeier threw his third interception of the contest. The Aggies turned the turnover into three points on a 26 yard field Goal by Randy Bond for the game's final margin. With the loss, LSU falls to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in SEC play. Next up, the Tigers will have their second bye week of the season. They will need it to regroup and get ready for their upcoming contest with Alabama at home in Tiger Stadium on November 9th. Walton Stadium. The lone goal of the match came in the 67th minute when midfielder Ida Hermansdottir’s powerful shot from eight yards blew by the Missouri goalkeeper and into the roof of the net. “I am absolutely thrilled. We knew it was going to take a big player in a big moment for us and Ida stepped up. I am really proud of all the girls. We’ve talked this week about needing four points in our final two matches of the regular season, and they found a way to grind out two clean sheets here at the end of the season,” said head coach Sian Hudson. “It was a massive team effort out there today. We had a ton of grit and resilience and got the job done. I don’t know who we’ll be playing yet in Pensacola, but I know that this team is coming up at the right time. We’re excited to go to the beach!” With both teams looking to clinch a spot in the SEC Tournament, the match opened with a cagey first half that saw the chances limited on both ends. Goalkeeper Sophine Kevorkian stopped Missouri’s first shot on target in the 18th minute and picked up another save just before halftime in the 44th to keep the scoreline even. For LSU, their best chance of the half came from forward Mollie Baker, who had a banger in the 35th minute from inside the box that hit the crossbar and fell straight down, just close enough to the goal line to call for VAR. After review, the shot was deemed not a goal after the entirety of the ball did not cross the goal line and the Tigers continued to fight to get on board. The second half picked up right where the first left off as neither team could break down the other in the first 20 minutes. Kevorkian caught her third save of the day in the 57th minute while Phillips denied forward Amy Smith’s effort in the 64th minute. The breakthrough for LSU came in the 67th minute. Kevorkian launched a ball from outside her box to midfield, which was touched down by forward Andrea Iljkic into the path of Smith. Smith played a through ball to a bursting Hermansdottir, who broke into the box and smacked the ball past the goalkeeper and into the top of the net to give LSU a 1-0 lead. The crucial goal was the Icelandic international’s eighth of the season, and her first since her since the match against Oklahoma on September 26. “What an unbelievable finish by Ida (Hermannsdottir). I don’t know that she could’ve put the ball anywhere else other than the top corner, but it was an absolute belter.” LSU had 22 minutes to hold the lead and keep their postseason hopes alive. The visiting team nearly found a second goal in the 80th minute as defender Jazmin Ferguson’s header in the box required an acrobat leap from Phillips to parry away and keep Missouri within a goal. The final 10 minutes saw the hosts throw all their players forward searching for an equalizing goal. Kevorkian denied Milena Fischer’s point-blank shot in the 84th minute before collecting her final save of the night in the 89th minute as she saved Brianna Buels’ shot in the box. That was the final big chance from Missouri as LSU saw out the remaining seconds to get the win. Kevorkian finished the match with five saves and secured her second consecutive clean sheet in just her second start at LSU. The San Diego, California native stepped in between the sticks for the final two games of the season after Audur Scheving’s international call up for Iceland. Despite not playing prior to Thursday, Kevorkian helped the Tigers grab four points in SEC play in the final weekend of the season and contributed to her team securing a postseason berth. Defenders Sydney Cheesman and Jazmin Ferguson and midfielder Gabbi Ceballos were also huge in the Tigers win in Columbia, added Hudson. “Gabbi (Ceballos) was fantastic for us. She won so many balls out of the air. Jaz Ferguson and Sydney Cheesman were absolute beasts at center back. Everyone just chipped in.” Pensacola Berth Clinched - Up Next With the win, LSU moved up to 11th in the SEC standings with 11 points earned in conference play this season and clinched their spot in the 2024 SEC Tournament by guaranteeing a finish of 12th or higher. This will now be Hudson's fifth consecutive postseason appearance since becoming the leader of the LSU Soccer program. The Tigers could fall to 12th place if Tennessee defeats Florida in their matchup on Wednesday, October 30, but it’s now guaranteed that LSU will play in the first round of the SEC Championship on Sunday, November 3 at the Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex in Pensacola, Florida. LSU will compete as either the No. 11 seed against No. 6 at 2 p.m. CT or as the No. 12 seed against the No. 5 at 7 p.m. CT next Sunday, with seeding set to be finalized after Wednesday’s final matches. The evening began as the Tigers celebrated their three seniors: forward Mollie Baker, midfielder Tori Gillis, and midfielder Jaden Humbyrd. LSU Head Coach Sian Hudson presented them each with a framed keepsake to honor their time in the Purple and Gold. “Throughout the season, these seniors have contributed so much to the team, on and off the field,” said LSU Head Coach Sian Hudson. “They are great human beings and just unbelievable ambassadors for the program. Tori Gillis and Jaden Humbyrd have been here for four years, so they are the first players that I have had the honor of coaching all four years here at LSU. Mollie Baker joined us as a transfer, and all three of them have been fantastic for our culture. “They will leave a great legacy behind. All three of them are just unbelievable in terms of just the care that they show for their teammates, the willingness to work, and the ability to bring it day in and day out. We are really proud of them and wish them all the best.” LSU’s goalkeeper Sophine Kevorkian was the highlight of the match in her Tiger debut. Kevorkian stopped nine shots by the Commodores on her way to her first ever clean sheet as a Tiger. Her nine saves tonight marks a season high this season by a Tiger keeper. “I tried to just not be focused on the mistakes I made. I just stayed locked in and kept focusing on what I could do for my team.” said Kevorkian after her dominant performance in between the posts. Ava Galligan recorded LSU’s first shot of the match in the 5th minute when she nearly beat Vanderbilt goalkeeper Sara Wojdelko with a strike from long range. Galligan shot the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal, and it took a valiant effort from Wojdelko to push the ball over the net and out for a corner kick. Sophomore Gabbi Ceballos tallied the only other shot on target for the Tigers in the first half. Kevorkian stopped five shots in the first half to keep the Commodores off of the board and the first half ended in a 0-0 draw. There were good chances for both sides during the second half. Jocelyn Ollivierre, Amy Smith, Danielle Shannon, Jazmin Ferguson, Ava Amsden and Galligan all tried their luck to get the Tigers on board in the second half. Neither side was able to find a breakthrough and the match ended all square at 0-0. “We had a couple of really big chances with balls in the box, shots on the top of the six, across the face of the goal, but we couldn't really capitalize. Obviously now we have to go to Missouri on Sunday and win that game and then hope for other results in the SEC to go our way.” The Tigers finished the night with 11 shots compared to Vanderbilt’s 18. Freshman Emerson DeLuca earned her first start in her first year as a Tiger. LSU will conclude their regular season with a visit to the Missouri Tigers on Sunday, October 27th. The Aggies opened the scoring on the night in the 54th minute when MaKihya McDonald finished a one-on-one chance by slotting a ball into the bottom left corner. It took just 94 seconds for the Tigers to respond as Sydney Cheesman scored from the penalty spot to tie it at 1-1. LSU’s second goal of the night came in the 64th minute as Ava Galligan capitalized on chaos in the box to score a right-footed finish from eight yards out. Texas A&M’s second and the final goal of the game came in the 81st minute when Sydney Becerra’s stunning free kick from 23 yards out found the top left corner. “Overall, we’re excited to get a point on the road. A&M is a really difficult place to come, so I’m happy with the grit and determination of the team,” said head coach Sian Hudson. “Our players did well and focused on the game plan. Obviously disappointing to give up the lead at the end there, but all credit to Sydney Becerra for a fantastic finish on the free kick.” “I thought Texas A&M was the better team in the first half. It was more of a defensive effort for us to start out, but Kelsey Major had a good first half for us and got behind them a couple of times. We had conversations at half time about how we can progress the ball a little bit quicker. I thought the addition of Emerson DeLuca and Riley MacDonald in the second half, two of our freshmen, gave us a little bit more energy.” The conference matchup opened with a cagey first half as neither team could create quality chances. The host Aggies created nine shots in the first 45 minutes, but none that truly tested the LSU defense. LSU goalkeeper Audur Scheving registered five saves, stopping shots in the 15th, 30th, 31st, 35th and 40th minutes to keep the Aggies at bay. The Tigers had two shots in the first half, a chance after a corner by defender Jazmin Ferguson in the 2nd minute and a shot wide left by midfielder Danielle Shannon in the second half. The second half was a fiery contest as both teams came out of the locker room hunting for a goal. The hosts opened the scoring in the 54th minute. Grace Ivey played a long through ball that found McDonald, who broke into the box and slotted a right footed ground shot that skipped past Scheving and into the bottom corner. Only 94 seconds later, a handball was called in the Texas A&M box after forward Sage Glover ripped a strong shot that was blocked by an Aggie defender. Following a VAR review, the referee pointed to the penalty spot to confirm the handball offense. Cheesman stepped up to the penalty spot and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way as her shot slotted easily into the right corner. The goal marked the first for Cheesman in her collegiate career. “Obviously a well finished penalty from Syd (Cheesman). She had a lot of composure in that moment,” said Hudson. LSU took its first lead of the night in the 64th minute. A Texas A&M defender cleared a cross sent into the box, but Galligan was able to pounce on the weak clearance and gain possession. The sophomore took a touch then sent a strong right-footed effort into the left corner from eight yards out to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead on the night. The goal was Galligan’s fifth this season and her second in SEC play. “Ava (Galligan) came up big for us in the box, scrapping around, finding the ball, and then putting it home.” The Aggies chased for an equalizer, down one staff member as head coach G Guerrieri was sent off following persistent infringement in the 64th minute. Despite being down their head coach, the Aggies were relentless in testing LSU’s defense, with Scheving saving a shot in the 75th minute to keep the Tigers ahead. The tying goal came in the 81st minute. Becerra lined up her shot on the left, 24 yards from outside the box and sent a curling effort over the wall and past the outstretched Scheving into the top left corner to tie the match at 2-2 on the night. Neither team could find a winner in the final nine minutes of the match and the full time whistle blew with the score at 2-2. The Aggies outshot LSU 24-6, with the shot on goal count coming in at 9-3 in favor of Texas A&M. LSU’s Scheving finished with seven saves, a single-game season high for the Icelandic goalkeeper that saw her tally increase to 54 on the year. “I thought Audi (Scheving) had some really big moments for us in goal and kept us in the game with some fantastic saves,” added Hudson. “Texas A&M created opportunities but didn't capitalize.” LSU returns home for its final home game of the 2024 regular season and senior night next week, taking on the Vanderbilt Commodores at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, October 24. I thought for the first 15 minutes, we were the team in charge. It was just really disappointing to give up two goals on corner kicks. That is something that we just have to be better at, certainly on a Sunday in the SEC. Set pieces are absolutely crucial, and we just did not manage either of those moments well enough. All credit to Texas, and overall, I take a lot of heart out of the performance today.” LSU’s lone goal of the day came from forward Andrea Ilkjic, who scored a penalty kick late in the second half. Also on the attack for the Tigers was Ida Hermannsdottir and Ava Galligan, who both recorded two shot attempts on target, and Sage Glover, Kelsey Major and Aurora Gaines, who also tested the Texas keeper. LSU goalkeeper Audur Scheving recorded three saves in the afternoon as well. The Tigers came out strong in the first half, creating multiple scoring opportunities and holding 53% possession compared to the Longhorns 47%. Hermannsdóttir, Glover and Gaines all tested Texas keeper Mia Justus in the first 45. Texas opened the scoring in the 19th minute of the match when Amalia Villareal found the back of the net to give the Longhorns an early lead. Holly Ward provided the assist on the goal. Just two minutes later, Texas nabbed their second goal via a shot from Jilly Shimkin. Holly Ward once again provided the assist, her second of the afternoon. LSU was unable to cut the Texas lead as the first half ended 2-0 in favor of the Longhorns. The Tigers called Justus to action on four occasions, as she collected four saves in the first half while Scheving only one. The Longhorns found a breakthrough in the 57th minute when Lexi Missimo ran all the way from midfield to the Tiger box to slot a shot past the reach of Scheving, making the score 3-0. Amalia Villareal provided the assist on that tally. Mollie Baker scored on a great shot in the 63th minute, but the goal was reviewed by the VAR and disallowed due to an offside in the buildup. LSU responded to the call not even 10 minutes later, when the Tigers were awarded a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. Ilkjic stepped up to take the penalty, and made no mistake as she lashed a shot into the left corner past the Longhorn goalkeeper to cut their lead and get the Tigers on the board. Iljkic made it 3-1 on the day, recording her fourth career goal, all coming in the 2024 season. While the sophomore converted a big moment for LSU, the squad was unable to find two more goals to equalize the match. It was the Longhorn’s 350th victory in program history as they gained three points on the day. The Tigers finished the match with 16 shots, their most in five matches. Nine of those were on target. The Longhorns took 20 shots, with eight of those being on goal. Only four shots under Texas, it was an even matchup in Baton Rouge with both teams finding solid moments on the attack. Scheving finished the match with four saves for the Tigers, moving her total this year to 47. LSU will return to the pitch on Friday, October 18th to take on Texas A&M in College Station.  Photo By: LSUsports.net Da Boot Sports 10/10/2024 LSU Sports Communications By: LSU Staff LEXINGTON, Ky. – The LSU Soccer Team (7-6-1, 2-4-0 SEC) fell to the Kentucky Wildcats (10-1-3, 2-1-3 SEC) on Thursday night at Bell Soccer Complex. The Wildcats got on board first in Lexington in the first three minutes to start the match. Kentucky’s Makala Woods scored the opening goal when she received a through ball from Maddie Kemp around the midway mark and took it on her own the rest of the way and past LSU keeper Audur Scheving. Kemp was credited the assist on the goal. The Tigers saw an opportunity to level the match in the 19th minute as Sage Glover was awarded a penalty kick after a handball inside the box by Kentucky’s Grace Hoytink. Visiting keeper Marz Josephson denied Glover of the goal, collecting her first save of the night. Kentucky came out hot as they held 52% possession compared to LSU’s 48% in the first half. LSU began to find their momentum toward the last 20 minutes of the half, but could not find the right opportunity. LSU keeper Scheving tallied four saves in the first half, including one huge save off a penalty from Kemp, stopping Kentucky from extending their lead. The first half ended 1-0 in favor of the Wildcats. The Tiger defense was tested as Kentucky took seven shots, but LSU was able to hold Kentucky to their lone goal. The second half saw more of Kentucky fighting off the Tigers as they searched for the equalizer, which finally came as Ava Amsden scored in the 73rd minute. Kelsey Major was rewarded a foul in the box, giving LSU the perfect chance to get on the board. Amsden drilled home her second penalty kick of the year to level the match 1-1 in Lexington. The Tigers and Wildcats continued to battle back and forth as both teams looked for the advantage. Both teams took six shots in the second half. LSU saw attempts from Sage Glover, Amy Smith, Aurora Gaines, Mollie Baker, Andrea Iljkic, Ava Amsden and Danielle Shannon. The Tigers five attempts on target came from Glover, Iljkic, Smith and Shannon. With just five minutes remaining in the match, Kentucky’s Alexis Tylenda was able to score the game-winner. Grace Phillpotts sent a ball in that found Kemp, who perfectly flicked the ball with her head over the LSU defender and to the feet of Tylenda, who confidently slotted it home to give Kentucky the lead. The Tigers finished the night with eight shots and four saves from Scheving. The squad will return to Baton Rouge to host Texas on Sunday, October 13 at 1 p.m. CT on SECN+. The victory was Auburn’s 11th shutout of the year and goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska’s 35th career shutout. “All credit to Auburn,” said LSU Head Coach Sian Hudson. “Obviously, they asked a lot of questions of us tonight. They are top 20 in the country for a reason, so certainly that is a testament to what they and (Auburn Head Coach) Karen Hoppa have done this season. We gave up two or three really bad moments today defensively. It is unfortunate because we've actually defended quite well as a team throughout conference play tonight.” The visiting Tigers got on board first in Baton Rouge as Auburn’s Olivia Woodson opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Two passes from Dylan Driver and Carly Thatcher found Woodson waiting on the back post, where she scored on one touch. Auburn extended their lead just two minutes later as Mallory Mooney hit a half volley shot from just at the top of the box. LSU’s goalkeeper Audur Scheving made two incredible saves during the first half to deny Auburn from extending their lead even further. The first half ended 2-0 in favor of Auburn. The home Tigers saw more offensive opportunities in the second half as Sage Glover, Caley Swierenga, Amy Smith and Riley MacDonald all tallied shots for the Tigers in the second half. Swierenga took the only shot on target in the 55th minute. “I thought some of our younger players came on the pitch at the end and raised the energy levels and gave us some different looks, so credit to them for coming in and making the most of their opportunity.” Auburn tallied two more goals in the second half from Carly Thatcher and LJ Knox. It was a 4-0 Auburn lead in the 55th minute as LSU battled to get on board. After a strong defensive effort, the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net and the night ended in favor of the visiting Tigers. Scheving was vital in between the posts for the Tigers. The keeper from Iceland finished the night with six saves, matching her season and career high in the Purple & Gold. “That’s two games now that Audi has kept us in the game. She had some massive saves for us and is turning into a massive player for us,” Hudson added. LSU will travel to Lexington on Thursday, October 10, as they are slated to take on the Kentucky Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+. The girls have got a weekend off to sort of refresh at the midway point of the SEC schedule, and we'll be looking forward to a match up against the Wildcats after they knocked us out of the SEC Tournament last year. The last time we went there, we won on the road, so we'll be looking to bounce back next week.” The Tigers now share the sixth spot in the conference with Kentucky with six points.
