NASHVILLE, TN - LSU traveled to Nashville to play the Commodores to open SEC play. After trailing, 10-4, LSU would battle back to take the lead, 12-10 in the eighth, but Vandy was able to pull out the win in the bottom of the ninth in dramatic fashion.

Casan Evans got his usual Friday night start on the bump and went three innings, giving up six runs on four hits. He walked five and struck out five. LSU used five pitchers on the night. Gavin Guidry (3-2) was charged with the loss.

Steven Milam led off the ball game with a single to right field. Jake Brown followed with a double down the right field line, moving Milam to third. Derek Curiel flied out to bring Milam home. We headed to the bottom of the first with LSU on top 1-0.

Vanderbilt answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, taking the lead, 2-1 as we moved on to the second.

After two quick outs to start the top of the second inning, Chris Stanfield singled to right field. Milam then singled to right field. Brown stepped to the plate and launched a homer over the right field wall. 4-2, LSU as we headed to the bottom of the frame.

Vandy plated another run in the bottom of the second, cutting the LSU lead to 4-3.

Casan Evans got into trouble in the third, giving up two singles, walking a batter and hitting a batter to help the Commodores retake the lead, 5-4 after three innings.

Vandy quickly added to their lead in the bottom of the  fourth when Braden Holcomb led off with a solo home run. The homer ended Evans' night on the bump as Jay Johnson replaced him with Cooper Williams. Williams fared no better, walking the first three batters he faced to load the bases with no outs. Jaden Noot entered the contest to try and stop the bleeding with minimal damage. Noot walked the first batter he faced to send a run home. A fielder's choice send another run across the plate. A single to center field would plate two more runs, forcing Jay Johnson to make another pitching change. Zac Cowan entered the game with bases loaded and two outs. Cowan was able to quickly get the final out to send LSU back into the dugout. We moved to the top of the fifth with Vanderbilt on top, 10-4.

The Tigers got things going in the top of the fifth. Milan led off with a single to left field. Curiel was issued a base on balls after Brown struck out. Yorke popped out. Cade Arrambide singled up the middle to load the bases with two outs. Seth Dardar stepped to the plate and doubled to left center to clear the bases. At the end of the fifth inning, Vandy held a 10-7 advantage.

LSU struck again in the top of the eighth. Stanfield led off with a base on balls. Stanny then advanced to second on a passed ball. After Milan struck out, Brown singled to move Stanfield to third. Curiel then doubled to center field, scoring Stanfield and Brown. Zach Yorke walked, putting runners on first and second with one out. Arrambide was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Curiel was able to come home and score on a wild pitch. Yorke was able to score on a passed ball. Mason Braun was hit by a pitch, then stole second base. Arrambide was then able to score on a wild pitch. We headed to the bottom of the eighth with LSU now leading, 12-10.

Gavin Guidry entered the game to try and close the game out for the Tigers. He was able to get the Commodores, three up-three down in the eighth.

Vanderbilt started the bottom of the ninth with back to back singles. Both runners were able to move up on a passed ball. A sacrifice fly to deep right field brought a run home. Runner on third with one out. Logan Johnstone then hit a two run homer for the dramatic walk off victory for Vandy.

The Tigers fall to 13-6 overall and 0-1 in the SEC. Next up, LSU and Vandy will play game two on Saturday, March 14 at 7:00pm. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
