BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU looked to bounce back from Friday night's disappointing 7-4 loss to Kentucky and did just that with a very nice, 7-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field in front of 11,268 LSU fans on a beautiful day in Baton Rouge.

Due to Cooper Moore's elbow injury, William Schmidt has slide into the game two role, taking the bump on Saturday and going 5.1 innings, giving up no runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out three. Schmidt (4-1) got the win. Zac Cowan registered his first save of the season.

LSU got things going in the bottom of the second. Derek Curiel led off with a single to left field, he then stole second. Unfortunately, Curiel was thrown out trying to steal third base. Seth Dardar was issued a base on balls. John Pearson then doubled to left field, advancing Dardar to third. Zach Yorke hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring Dardar home. Mason Braun doubled to right field, scoring Pearson. The second inning would come to an end with LSU leading, 2-0.

The Tigers extended their lead in the fourth inning. Dardar started things with a lead off walk. After Pearson flied out, Yorke was issued a base on balls. Braun then stepped to the plate and blasted a home run over the right center field wall. We headed to the fifth inning with LSU now up, 5-0.

In the top of the sixth, Sccmidt began to run out of gas. He was replaced by Zac Cowan with two men on with one out. Cowan did a fantastic job of quickly getting LSU back into the dugout with no damage done.

Pearson led off the bottom of the sixth with a base on balls. Yorke then singled to to center field. Pearson and Yorke were able to both advance a base on a wild pitch. runners on second and third with no outs. After Braun and Stanfield were put out back to back, Steven Milam doubled down the right field line to score Pearson and Yorke. 7-0, Tigers as we moved to the seventh inning.

Zac Cowan did a fantastic job of keeping the Kentucky bats quiet the rest of the way, as LSU evens up the series, setting up the rubber match on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 18-10 overall and 3-5 in SEC play. Next up, The Tigers and Wildcats will meet again in game three of the series on Sunday, March 29 at 12:00pm.
