Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU returned home after being swept at Auburn, looking to get back on track and that they did, defeating the McNeese Cowboys, 10-3 on Tuesday night. William Schmidt (6-0) started on the bump for LSU. He went 3.1 innings, giving up two runs on five hits. He walked one while striking out four to get the win. LSU started strong at the plate, Daniel Dickinson led off with a single to left field. After Curiel went down swinging, Jared Jones launched a two run homer over the right center field wall. Ethan Frey kept things going with a single up the middle. Frey then stole second base. Steven Milam drew a base on balls. Jake Brown singled to right field, scoring Frey and moving Milam to second. We would head to the second inning with the Tigers up, 3-0. LSU added a run in the bottom of the second, but left the bases loaded. 4-0 Tigers. McNeese cut the LSU lead in half in the fourth on a two run homer off of Schmidt. Connor Benge replaced Schmidt with runners on first and second with one out. Benge was able to register the final two outs without anymore damage being done. 4-2 LSU as the contest headed to the bottom of the frame. LSU added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Derek Curiel got things started with a single thought he right side with two outs. Jones then singled up the middle advancing Curiel to third base. Ethan Frey singled to left field to score Curiel and send Jones to second. Milam then singled to right field, bringing Jones home and moving Frey to third. Jake Brown reached first safely on an error, while Milam moved to second and Frey came home. Luis Hernandez singled to center field, to bring Milam home. We moved to the fifth inning with the Tigers now leading, 8-2. The Cowboys plated a run in the top of the fifth. LSU got the run back in the bottom of the frame. 9-3 Tigers as the game moved to the sixth inning. The Tigers added another run in the eighth. 10-3 LSU as we moved to the ninth inning. The Tigers used six pitchers in the contest, giving some young guys some much needed work. With the win LSU improves to 32-6. Next up the Tigers will host Alabama on Thursday, April 17 at 7:00pm.
