BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU continues to take steps in the right direction as they defeat #7 Oklahoma, 7-1 at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field on Thursday night in front of 11,217 Tiger fans. It was LSU's third win in a row.

Casan Evans (2-0) started on the bump against the Sooners and had a career night, going 7.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits. He walked one and struck out 15 as he recorded the win.

After Milam led off with a ground out, Jake Brown was issued a base on balls. Derek Curiel walked. Omar Serna then walked to load the bases. Cade Arrambide ended up walking to bring a run home. Yorke struck out to end the first inning with LSU up, 1-0.

Trent Caraway led off the second with a walk. He was able to advance to second on a wild pitch. Chris Stanfield reached on a throwing error, moving to second on the bad throw. Caraway was able to score on the play. Steven Milan flied out, sending Stanfield to third. Brown then walked, putting runners at the corners with only one out. A bad pick off attempt to third, allowed Stanfield to come home. Brown moved to second. Curiel reached on another throwing error, advancing to second. Brown scored on the play. Serna was hit by a pitch, setting up runners on first and second with one out. John Pearson singled to center field to plate another run. 5-0, Tigers as we headed to the third inning.

Oklahoma was able to plate a single run in the top of the sixth. 5-1, LSU as we headed to the bottom of the frame.

Serna got things started in the bottom of the seventh with a double to left field. Pearson then doubled to right field, moving Serna to third. Zach Yorke stepped to the plate and singled to center field to bring two runs home. Caraway was issued a base on balls to put runners at first and second with one out. But the two runs were all the Tigers could manage in the frame. 7-1, LSU as the seventh inning came to a close.

Ethan Plog replaced Casan Evans early in the top of the eighth inning, but only faced two hitters before being replaced by Zac Cowan who got the Tigers back into the dugout quickly.

Zac Cowan was able to get the final three outs in the ninth to secure victory for LSU.

LSU improves to 16-7 overall and 2-2 in SEC play. Next LSU and Oklahoma will play game two of the series on Friday, March 20 at 6:30pm.
