Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - After a successful weekend sweep of Purdue Fort Wayne, the Tigers return to the Box to host Southern on Tuesday afternoon, coming away with a 13-1 run-rule victory. Connor Ware started on the bump for LSU and got the win, pitching three innings, giving up no hits, no runs while striking out two and walking one. Zac Cowan saw action on the mound, giving up one run on two hits. He struck out three. The Tigers got busy in the bottom of the first. Chris Stanfield singled to the pitcher, then advanced to second on a throwing error. Derek Curiel then singled up the middle to score Stanfield. Curiel moved to second on a throwing error. Jared Jones stepped to the plate and singled to left, moving Cruiel to third base. Curiel would then score from third thanks to a pitcher's balk. We headed to the second inning with LSU up, 2-0. LSU added to their lead in the third. Daniel Dickinson reached first base safely thanks to a throwing error by the third baseman. Then advanced to second on aother throwing error. Ethan Frey singled, moving Dickinson to third. Josh Pearson then flied out to left field to bring Dickinson home. After three innings, the Tigers now led, 3-0. Stanfield drew a leadoff walk to begin the bottom of the fourth. He quickly advanced to second on a wild pitch. Curiel was hit by a pitch. Then Jones was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Dickinson singled to left to score Stanfield and Cruiel. Frey then stepped to the plate and launched a three run homer over the left field wall. With no one out, Josh Pearson singled up the middle. He moved to second on a wild pitch. Michael Braswell III flied out to deep right field to advance Pearson to third. Steven "Monster' Milan tripled to right center, scoring Pearson. Cade Arrambide reached first on a base on balls. Then moved up to second on a wild pitch. Mic Paul walked to load the bases with one out. Curiel then smashed a two RBI single to right field. Southern pitching finally stopped the bleeding as the contest headed to the fifth with LSU up, 11-0. LSU added a run in the bottom of the fifth when Ashton Larson scored from second on a wild pitch. Southern finally mounted a threat in the sixth with back to back hits. Bikar with a single, then a double to right field by Thibodeaux put runners on second and third with two outs. Thibodeaux was able to score on a passed ball. 12-1, LSU as we headed to the bottom of the sixth. Mic Paul led off the bottom of the frame with a single to right field. Paul then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jake Brown drew a base on balls. Mikey Ryan walked to load the bases with two outs. David Hogg II walked, sending Paul home from third. The Tigers would leave the sacks loaded, but took a 13-1 lead into the seventh inning. Kade Wood took the mound for the Tigers to get the final three outs for the run-rule victory. LSU is now 4-0 on the season. Next up, the Tigers will travel to Thibodaux to play Nicholls on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 pm. The game will be televised on ESPN Plus.
