BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU began their week with a non-conference game against Louisiana Tech at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman field on Tuesday night and had little trouble with the Bulldogs beating them, 12-3.

William Schmidt (4-0) started on the bump for the Bayou Bengals and had a short outing, going only 2.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits. He walked one while striking out two, getting the win. LSU gave seven other pitchers some work during the contest which was good to see.

LSU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Derek Curiel started things with a leadoff walk. Jared Jones then drew a base on balls. Daniel Dickinson doubled to left field, scoring Curiel and moving Jones to third. Ethan Frey then hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field allowing Jones to tag up and score. Steven Milam reached first base on a fielder’s choice as the Bulldogs got Dickinson out trying to score. Jake Brown drew a walk. Milan and Brown were both able to move up a base on a wild pitch, setting up runners on second and third with two outs. Cade Arrambide stepped to the plate and singled up the middle scoring Milam and Brown. La Tech would finally get the final out to send us to the second inning with LSU leading, 4-0.

The Bulldogs answered in the top of the second as Zeb Ruddell led off with a solo homer. After the next La Tech hitter doubled, Schmidt would retire the next three hitters to send the Tigers back to the dugout. The game moved to the bottom of the second with LSU now up, 4-1.

The Tigers added to their lead when Jared Jones blasted a two out, solo home run over the left field wall. We moved to the third with LSU up, 5-1.

LSU struck again in the bottom of the fifth, plating another run on a solo homer by Ethan Frey. 6-1 LSU as the contest headed to the sixth inning.

Louisiana Tech plated a run in the top of the seventh to cut the LSU lead to 7-2.

But the Tigers would answer in the bottom of the frame. Curiel started it off with a single to right field. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jones then drew a base on balls. Dickinson followed being hit by a pitch to loud the bases with no outs. Frey stepped up to the plate and singled to center field, scoring Cruiel and moving everyone else up. Milam then singled to right field scoring Jones from third.

John Pearson flied out to right field to send Dickinson home and move Frey to third. Runners on the corners with one out for the Tigers. Arrambide hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring Frey home. The inning would end with LSU leading 10-2.

The Bulldogs quietly added another run in the top of the eighth. We headed to the bottom of the frame with Louisiana Tech now trailing, 10-3.

LSU plated their last two run of the night in the bottom of the eight to bring the final score to 12-3.

With the win LSU improves to 27-3. Next up, the Tigers will go on the road to play Oklahoma in Norman in a three game SEC series beginning on Thursday, April 3 at 6:00pm, then playing on Friday and Saturday.
