Da Boot Sports 4/4/2026 By: Terrill J. Weil KNOXVILLE, TN - Tennessee evened up the series with LSU on Saturday afternoon, beating the Fighting Tigers, 4-1. LSU struggled against Tennessee pitching all game long. LSU last 15 hitters of the contest were sat down by Vols pitcher Cam Applenzeller. William Schmidt started on the bump for the Bayou Bengals and went 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out seven. Schmidt (4-2) was charged with the loss. Tennessee drew first blood, plating two runs in the bottom of the first. 2-0, Vols. LSU answered in the top of the second. Derek Curiel started things off with a single to left field. John Pearson singled to center field. After Seth Dardar went down swinging, Chris Stanfield singled up the middle, scoring Curiel and advancing Pearson to second base. Zach Yorke popped out. Cade Arrambide walked to load the bases with two outs. Milam flied out to left field to end the scoring threat. The Tigers left the bases loaded, trailing Tennessee, 2-1 as we moved to the bottom of the frame. In the third inning Tennessee's Blake Grimmer launched a solo homer over the right field wall. 3-1, Vols The Volunteers added another run in the bottom of the fourth. A passed ball allowed a Tennessee player to score from second base. The Vols now led, 4-1 as we headed to the fifth inning. LSU falls to 21-11 overall and 5-6 in the SEC.
