Da Boot Sports 3/7/2025 By: Jason Watson Jr. Baton Rouge, LA - LSU’s offense stayed hot into the weekend as they dominated North Alabama 13-2 en route to a run-rule win in the seventh inning. Pitching and home runs aplenty led to the early finish in the series opener. Sophomore lefty Kade Anderson had a strong start to his evening with two strikeouts in the top of the first, sitting the Lions in order. In the bottom of the frame, LSU could not muster any runs across, stranding runners on first and second. After turning the order over for the first time, LSU threatened in the second inning as Jared “Bear” Jones stepped to the plate with bases loaded and two outs. A first-pitch swing in the at-bat resulted in just a shallow bloop out, stranding three more Tiger runners. Anderson continued his success through three innings. He earned his fifth strikeout of the night to retire South Alabama in the top half. With one out in the third, LSU finally found pay dirt. Josh Pearson blasted a solo home run deep into the Diamond Deck. Steven Milam then reached on a walk before advancing to second on a pitch that got past the Lions’ catcher. Jake Brown delivered an RBI double, putting the Tigers up 2-0. Luis Hernandez earned a single on a line drive to left field, moving Brown to third base. Tanner Reaves stepped to the plate and delivered a massive three-run homer to right field to give LSU a 5-0 advantage. North Alabama would retire Stanfield and Curiel with flyouts to end the inning. Daniel Dickinson wanted in on the scoring action. He earned the Tigers’ third home run of the night with a solo shot to left field, extending the lead to six. With two outs in the fourth, Milam homered to right field to make the score 7-0 before the Lions made a pitching change. In the top of the fifth inning, LSU’s Anderson would give up his first run of the game by way of a home run to left field from UNA’s Alex Wade. Luis Hernandez picked up his first home run of the season for LSU with one deep into left field to begin the bottom of the frame. Reaves followed that up with a double into the right field corner. He would advance to third on a tag up from second base, but LSU would strand him to head to the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, LSU forced another pitching change from the visiting Lions. The Tigers managed to load the bases with no outs before going up 9-1 with a run walked across. Cade Arrambide reached on a fielder’s choice, earning an RBI in the process to make it a nine-run advantage for the Tigers. John Pearson, the younger brother of Josh Pearson, blasted a three-run home run with runners on the corners to open up the LSU lead, 13-1. Kade Anderson’s night was complete after six as Jay Johnson turned to freshman righty Mavrick Rizy in relief. Anderson finished with 11 strikeouts on 92 pitches, giving up just four hits and one earned run. Rizy would give up a couple of baserunners in the top of the seventh, allowing one to score on a SAC fly, but the third out would be delivered. LSU gets the run-rule victory by a final of 13-2.
