LSU struggled at the plate all game long after a poor night of hitting on Friday night. The Tigers didn’t get their first hit of the game until Ashton Larson singled to right center field in the bottom of the eighth.. Grant Fontenot (0-1) was the losing pitcher for the Tigers.. Daniel Dickinson started the bottom of the first with a leadoff walk, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Derek Cruiel then drew a base on balls. The LSU bats remained as cold as the Baton Rouge weather in the bottom of the third, going three up-three down. Grant Fontenot replaced Eyanson to start the seventh inning. Fontenot had a shaky start, hitting the first two batters that he faced and was quickly replaced with Connor Benge. The Mavericks found themselves with runners at first and third with no outs after an error by Benge trying to pick off the runner at second. A single to left field would plate a run for the visitors. A wild pitch would bring in another run for the Mavericks. Benge would then issue a walk to put runners at first and third with no outs. Jackson Trout stepped to the plate and launched a three run homer over the left field wall. We headed to the bottom of the seventh with Omaha leading, 5-0.
