Da Boot Sports 5/18/2024 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU continued their solid play over the weekend as they pulled out the broom to sweep Ole Miss on Sunday, 9-3. Nick Ackenhausen (3-4) was the winning pitcher on the day. With the win, the Tigers finish the regular season, 36-20 overall and 13-17 in SEC play. It was LSU's first series sweep of the season. The Tigers went to work in the first inning. Michael Braswell III got things started with a single up the middle. Jared Jones drew a base on balls. On a fly out by Josh Pearson, Braswell tagged up and advanced to third base. Jones then stole second base putting two Tigers in scoring position. Hayden Travinski then doubled down the left field line to bring both Braswell and Jones home. 2-0 Tigers as the contest headed to the second inning. LSU got back to work at the plate in the bottom of the fourth. Steven Milam led things off with a single to left field. Mac Bingham and Ashton Larson both walked to load the bases. Alex Millazo then singled to right field to bring Milam home. Michael Braswell III stepped up next and singled home Bingham, leaving the bases loaded for Tommy White with still with no outs. White jumped all over the first pitch he saw, launching it over the right field wall for LSU's second grand slam of the season. The Tigers now led 8-0 as we headed to the fifth. Ole Miss was able to plate a run in the top of the sixth inning. 8-1 as we headed to the bottom of the frame. In what could very well be his last game played in Alex Box Stadium, Tommy White launched a solo home run over the left field wall. With that being all the Tigers could generate in the inning, we moved on to the seventh with LSU now up, 9-1. The Mike Bianco led Rebels continued to battle hard as they were able to score two more runs in the top of the seventh to cut the LSU lead to 9-3 as we headed into the seventh inning stretch. Thatcher Hurd entered the game late in the seventh inning and was fantastic until Cade Anderson and Gavin Guidry stepped in late in the ninth inning to finish off the contest. Next up, LSU heads to Hoover, Alabama for the SEC Tournament. Their first opponent, game day and time is TBA.. The tournament begins on Thursday, May 21.
