Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The defending National Champions LSU Fighting Tigers began the 2026 season with a 15-5 run rule victory over the Milwaukee Panthers at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field on Friday afternoon. Casan Evans started on the bump for the Tigers and went 3.1 innings, giving up four runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out seven. Gavin Guidry (1-0) entered the game in the seventh inning and finished things off to get the win. He pitched two innings, giving up no runs on one hit while striking out five. LSU got on the scoreboard in the second when Zach Yorke led off with a home run to right field. We headed to the third inning with LSU up, 1-0. The Tigers added to their lead in the third. Chris Stanfield drew a lead off walk, then moved to second on a balk, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Steven Milam grounded out to third base to bring Stanfield home. 2-0, Bayou Bengals as we moved to the fourth inning. The Panthers got things going in the top of the fourth, loading the bases on a hit batter and back to back singles with no outs. Another single plated a run and kept the bases loaded. Tristan Ellis then doubled to left field to score two more with still no outs. A fielder's choice brought home another run for Milwaukee, ending Casan Evan's day as he was replaced with Cooper Williams. Williams took the mound with a runner on second and one out. A wild pitch moved the Milwaukee runner to third, but Williams was able to record the final two outs to stop the bleeding. We headed to the bottom of the frame with the Panthers leading, 4-2. Milwaukee extended their lead to 5-2 in the fifth when Charlie Marion blasted a lead off homer over the right field wall. In the bottom of the sixth, Arrambide led off with a double down the left field line. A fielder's choice moved him to third base. Seth Dardar then stepped to the plate and launched a two run homer to right center, cutting the Panthers lead to 5-4 as we headed to the seventh inning. Gavin Guidry entered the game for the Tigers in the top of the seventh and struck out the side. Steven Milam led off the bottom of the seventh with a double down the left field line. Jake Brown then followed with a double down the left field line bringing Milam home to tie the game. Yorke was then hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Arrambide gave LSU the lead back with a three run shot over the left field wall. With one out, Dardar doubled down the right field line, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Tanner Reaves walked then stole second base, putting runners on second and third with only one out. Derek Curiel reached on a throwing error by the second baseman. Reaves and Dardar both scored on the play. Another Milwaukee error sent Curiel to third. Milam walked to put runners on the corners with two outs. Jake Brown was unable to bring Curiel and Milam home. We moved to the eighth inning with LSU leading, 10-5. In the eighth Yourke and Arrambide started things off with back to back walks. Omar Serna stepped to the plate and doubled down the right field line to score Yorke and put Arrambide at third with still no outs. Dardar then grounded out to score Arrambide and move Serna to third. Serna would then score on a wild pitch. Jack Ruckert kept things going reaching safely on a bunt. John Pearson hit a single to left field putting runners on first and second with one out. Daniel Harden was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch brought Pearson home and moved up the other runners. Milam then singled to right field, scoring two more runs, ending the game due to the run rule. 15-5, Tigers win! LSU and Milwaukee will meet again on Saturday afternoon.
