Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - Bethune-Cookman came into Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday night and upset the LSU Fighting Tigers, 10-7 in front of 10,847 shocked Tiger fans. LSU missed out on several opportunities to plate runs, leaving several runners stranded throughout the contest. Marcos Paz got the start on the bump for the Bayou Bengals and only lasted one inning. He gave up two runs on three hits. LSU pitching struggled all night, using eight different arms out of the bull pen. Santiago Garcia (1-1) was charged with the loss for LSU. Steven Milam led off the bottom of the first with a base on balls. Jake Brown followed with a walk. John Pearson flied out to deep left field, advancing Milam to third. Derek Curiel then singled to left field to bring Milam home. Runners on first and second with only one out. Brown was able to move to third on a throwing error. Brown was able to score while Curiel was caught in a run down between first and second. Curiel was tagged for the second out. Seth Dardar was issued a base on balls. Cade Arrambide singled up the middle, but Dardar was thrown out trying to take third base to end the inning. We moved to the second with LSU leading, 2-0. B-Cookman got to Paz in the second inning with three straight singles to plate a run, forcing Jay Johnson to make a change, bringing in Connor Benge. Benge entered the contest with runners on the corners with no outs. Arrambide was able to throw out a Wildcat runner attempting to steal second base. Benge struggled terribly to record the final out, but not before the Wildcats plated two more runs. We headed to the bottom of the frame with Bethune-Cookman on top, 3-2. The Tigers responded. Mason Braun started things off with a single up the middle. Edward Yamin walked. Jake Brown singled off of the right field wall, scoring Braun and sending Yamin to third with two outs. We left the second inning in a 3-3 tie. Curiel started the bottom of the third with a single to right field. After Dardar flied out, Arrambide doubled to center field to score Curiel. We headed to the third inning with LSU back on top, 4-3. The Wildcat's Jorge Rodriguez, smashed a solo homer over the left field wall to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth inning. Milam led off the bottom of the fourth with a walk. Milam was able to advance all the way to third base on a bad pick off throw by the pitcher, Pearson was then hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners with one out. Curiel singled up the middle to bring Milam home. LSU regained the lead, 5-4 as the fourth inning ended. Bethune-Cookman refused to go away, plating another run in the fifth inning to tie the game at 5-5. Jake Brown launched a lead off homer over the right field wall in the bottom of the sixth inning. We moved to the seventh inning with LSU leading, 6-5. You guessed it, LSU's shaky pitching allowed the Wildcats to score again in the top of the seventh. B-Cookman took advantage of terrible, inconsistent pitching from the LSU bull pen, putting up five runs to take a 10-6 advantage into the bottom of the seventh. Braun led off the bottom of the seventh being hit by a pitch. Yamin singled to center field. Daniel Harden was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Milam, Brown and Pearson all struck out, back to back to back to leave the bases loaded. We moved to the eighth inning with LSU trailing, 10-6. Tanner Reaves started things off for LSU in the eighth with a one out walk. Arrambide then singled to left field. Braun hit into a double play to end the eight inning. The Tigers were unable to generate enough offense in the ninth. LSU drops to 22-12 overall. Next Up, the Tigers will travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss in a three game weekend series.
