Da Boot Sports 5/8/2026 By: Terrill J. Weil ATHENS. GA - LSU played well against Georgia, but fell short, 11-8 on Friday night in Athens. The Tigers led for most of the contest, but once again, the LSU bull pen simply couldn't protect the lead. Georgia's explosive offensive hit four home runs in the game. William Schmidt took the bump for the Bayou Bengals and went four innings, giving up five runs on four hits. He walked five and struck out six. Deven Sheerin (3-2) was charged with the loss. Mason Braun led off the contest with a single. Omar Serna grounded out to advance Braun to second. Derek Curiel was walked. Cade Arrambide was issued a base on balls to load the bases with only one out. Steven Milam singled to right field, bringing Braun and Curiel home. Georgia would get back into the dugout with LSU leading, 2-0. Georgia answered in the bottom of the first when Daniel Jackson blasted a solo home run to dead center field. Schmidt began to really struggle, hitting two batters, then walking two in a row, allowing the Bulldogs to plate another run to tie the game at 2-2. We headed to the second inning even at two. LSU had another productive inning at the plate in the top of the third. Serna led off with a homer over the center field wall. Curiel singled to center field. Arrambide then launched a two run homer to left center field. John Pearson then blasted a solo homer to left field. We moved to the bottom of the frame with LSU now leading, 6-2. The Bulldogs plated a run to cut the LSU advantage to 6-3 as we headed to the fourth inning. William Patrick started the fourth inning with a base on balls. Tanner Reaves then singled to right field. Serna was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with only one out. Curiel hit a sacrifice fly to bring a run home. But the one run was all LSU could manage. We headed to the bottom of the fourth inning with the Tigers leading, 7-3. Georgia added another run in the bottom of the fourth. 7-4, Bayou Bengals as the fourth inning came to an end. Deven Sheerin replaced Schmidt early in the bottom of the fifth inning and gave up back to back home runs. Kolby branch hit a two run homer to center field, then Ryan Black stepped to the plate and smashed a solo shot to center field. The inning ended with the game in a 7-7 tie. Tanner Reaves led off the sixth inning with a base on balls. Braun then singled to center field. After a Serna struck out, Curiel singled to right field to load the bases with one out. The Bulldogs were able to turn a questionable double play to end the LSU frame. The Bulldogs plated a run in the sixth to take an 8-7 lead. Milam led off the seventh with a base on balls. Pearson grounded out, advancing Milam to second. Milam was then able to move to third on a wild pitch. With one out, Ruckert grounded out, scoring Milam from third. We headed to the bottom of the seventh in an 8-8 tie. Tre Phelps blasted a three run homer over the left field wall to give Georgia an 11-8 advantage as we moved to the eighth inning. This was a big game for LSU. The loss increases the pressure on the Tigers to win the next two against the top team in the SEC. LSU falls to 29-22 overall and 9-16 in the SEC.
