BATON ROUGE, LA - After losing their home series against Oklahoma last weekend, LSU found themselves in a must win situation this weekend against the Kentucky Wildcats. However, dead bats and shaky pitching continued to haunt LSU as they fell to the Wildcats, 7-4 at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field on Friday night.

Casan Evans started on the bump for the Bayou Bengals and had a shaky outing, pitching six innings, giving up four runs on four hits. He walked six and struck out two. Evans (2-1) was charged with the loss.

Kentucky scored in the top of the first. a walk, a hit batter and a wild pitch allowed a run to cross the plate for the Wildcats. 1-0 Big Blue as we moved to the bottom of the frame.

Evans continued to struggle in the second, giving up two singles and walking three hitters. Kentucky took advantage, scoring three more runs to extend their lead to 4-0 as we headed to the bottom of the second.

LSU finally got things going in the bottom of the third. Chris Stanfield led off with a single. Steven Milam was then hit by a pitch. Jake Brown walked to load the bases with no outs. Derek Curiel singled to right field, bringing Stanfield and Milam home. Brown advanced to third on the play to put runners on the corners with one out. Zach Yorke hit into a double play to end the inning. 4-2, Kentucky as we moved to the fourth.

Ethan Plog replaced Evans to start the seventh inning and struggled, giving up two runs on two hits, with a walk and a K. Mavrick Rizy replaced Plog and was able to register the final two outs. Kentucky now extended their lead to 7-2 as we headed to the bottom of the seventh inning.

LSU remained lifeless at the plate, managing only two more runs as the nightmarish slump continues.

The Tigers fall to 17-10 overall and 2-5 in the SEC. Next, LSU will play Kentucky in game two of the series on Saturday, March 28 at 2:00pm.
