Da Boot Sports 4/12/2026 By: Terrill J. Weil OXFORD, MS - LSU's woes continued in Oxford on Sunday afternoon as the pitching struggled terribly and the bats remained ice cold as Ole Miss defeated the Bayou Bengals, 8-7 for the series sweep. The Tigers didn't record their first hit of the contest until the seventh inning. The seventh inning was LSU's only productive inning at the plate, but it wasn't enough. Grant Fontenot got the start on the bump for LSU and didn't make it out of the first inning, giving up two runs on three hits with one walk. Marcos Paz (0-2) was charged with the loss. Ole Miss wasted no time jumping all over Fontenot. Three singles and a walk led to two runs. Jay Johnson quickly went to his bull pen, bringing in Gavin Guidry with runners on second and third with one out. The Tigers were able to get the runner on third out in a run down. The Rebels now had runners on first and second with two outs. Guidry was able to get the Tigers back into the dug out without anymore damage done. Ole Miss led, 2-0 as we headed to the second inning. The Rebels extended their lead in the second when Dom Decker blasted a solo homer over the left field wall. 3-0, Ole Miss as the second inning came to an end. Ole Miss pounded Gavin Guidry in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on six hits, including three home runs. Santiago Garcia replaced Guidry with a runner on first and one out. Garcia quickly recorded the final two outs to send us to the fifth inning with Ole Miss now leading, 7-0. LSU finally got on the. board when Derek Curiel hit a lead off home run to right field in the top of the seventh inning. Cade Arrambide stepped up next and smashed a solo homer over the left field wall. Jake Brown followed with a solo home run over the right field wall. With no outs, Omar Serna singled up the middle. Steven Milam singled to right center field. The LSU bats finally came to life with back to back to back home runs, then back to back singles. Mason Braun grounded out, but advanced Serna and Milam to second and third with one out. John Pearson struck out before Brayden Simpson singled to left field to score Serna and Milam. Edward Yamin singled to third base, advancing Simpson to third with two outs. Curiel singled down the right field line, scoring Simpson. With runners on the corners with two outs, a wild pitch would allow Yamin to score. Arrambide was issued a base on balls. Brown flied out to end the frame with LSU and Ole Miss all even at 7-7 Ole Miss answered, plating a huge run in the bottom of the seventh to regain the lead, 8-7. The LSU bats went ice cold again in the eighth and ninth inning as the Rebels recorded the victory. The Tigers are now, 22-15 overall and 6-9 in the SEC. Next up LSU will host Northwestern State on Tuesday, April 14 at 6:30pm. This LSU team can't hit the baseball consistently enough to compete in the SEC. The pitchers can't find the strike zone. The fielding % by the defense is a terrible .963, last in the SEC and has committed 46 errors on the season. **Please be sure to go to our Da Boot Sports YouTube Channel every Monday night at 8pm CST for our live podcast, 'Talking Tigers with Da Boot Sports!'...
