Unfortunately the Tigers fell to South Carolina in game one on Thursday night, 6-5. Once again the LSU bullpen was unable to protect a lead. LSU went into the bottom of the ninth with a 5-4 lead, but the Gamecocks were able to plate two runs for the walk off victory. Zac Cowan (3-3) was the losing pitcher. Conner Ware started for the Tigers on the bump, but only last one inning, as he got in trouble early in the second inning, loading the bases with no outs. He allowed one run with four base on balls. The Tigers scored in the top of the first inning. Jared Jones hit a one out single up the middle. Daniel Dickinson then stepped to the plate and launched a two run homer over the left center field wall. LSU held a 2-0 lead as the contest moved to the second. South Carolina was able to plate a run in the bottom of the second after loading the bases. Jaden Noot replaced Ware on the mound and did a great job to get LSU out of the jam. LSU was able to plate a run in the top of the fifth to increase their lead to 3-1. The Gamecocks had a good inning at the plate in the sixth inning, plating two runs to tie the contest at 3-3. LSU regained the lead in the top of the eighth inning, plating two runs, taking a 5-3 advantage into the bottom of the frame. South Carolina battled back in the eighth, pushing a run across the plate, cutting the LSU lead to 5-4 as we headed to the ninth inning. With the loss LSU falls to 40-13 overall and 17-11 in SEC play. Next up LSU and USC will meet in game two of the series on Friday, May 16 at 6:00pm.
