Weil AUSTIN, TX - The #2 ranked LSU Tigers traveled to Austin to take on the #8 Texas Longhorns in a big SEC three game series and the Tigers took game one with an impressive, 8-2 victory on Friday night. Kade Anderson started on the bump for the Tigers and had a great game, pitching six innings. He gave up two runs on seven hits while striking out eight. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third. Texas had a man on first with two outs. Back to back singles would plate a run for the Longhorns. 1-0 Texas as we headed to the fourth. LSU responded in the top of the fourth. Josh Pearson led off with a base on balls. Luis Hernandez then stepped to the plate and launched a two run homer over the left field wall. The top of the frame ended with LSU now leading, 2-1. The Tigers got on the board again in the top of the fifth. Daniel Dickinson leadoff with a single to center field. Ethan Frey followed with a single to left field. Steven Milam then put down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. Josh Pearson hit a sacrifice fly to deep left field, scoring Frey from third base. The contest headed to the bottom of the fifth with LSU now up, 4-1. In the bottom of the sixth, Texas plated a run when Rylan Galvan hit a one out, solo homer. 4-2, LSU as the game moved to the seventh inning. Milam started the seventh with a single to left field. After Josh Pearson flied out, Hernandez singled to right field moving Milam to third. Michael Braswell III made it to first on a bunt, advancing Hernandez to second and scoring Milam. Chris Stanfield then hit a double down the left field line to bring home Hernandez and move Braswell to third. Jared Jones stepped to the plate and singled to right field, bringing Braswell and Stanfield home. Texas would finally get out of the inning with the Bayou Bengals leading, 8-2. Zac Cowan replaced Anderson on the bump to start the bottom of the seventh and did a great job of keeping the Longhorns down. LSU is now 22-1 overall and 4-0 in SEC play.
