Da Boot Sports 2/20/2026 By: Terrill J. Weil JACKSONVILLE, FL - LSU won their opening contest of the Jax College Baseball Classic against Indiana, 14-7 on Friday afternoon. Casan Evans got the start on the bump for LSU and went five innings, giving up three runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out four. Cooper Williams pitched an inning. Gavin Guidry (2-0) saw some time on the bump and earned the win. Grant Fontenot, Connor Benge and Danny Lachenmayer all saw limited action. LSU plated a run in the top of the first. Derek Curiel started it off with a single to right field. After two quick outs, Zach Yorke singled to left center, moving Curiel to third. Steven Milam then singled to right field to bring Curiel home for the run. 1-0, Tigers as we moved to the bottom of the frame. The Bayou Bengals scored another run in the third, taking a two run lead. Casan Evans got into trouble in the bottom of the third. The Hoosiers were able to load the bases with only one out and ended up plating three runs out of it to take the lead, 3-2 as we headed to the fourth. LSU regained the lead in the fifth. John Pearson singled to left field with one out. Yorke followed with a walk. Milam then singled to left center field, scoring Pearson and moving Yorke to second. Arrambide walked to load the bases. Seth Dardar then drew a walk to bring in another run, but the Tigers would leave the sacks loaded, sending us to the bottom of the fifth. 4-3, LSU. Cooper Williams started the sixth inning on the bump for the Tigers and got LSU back into the dugout quickly. In the seventh inning Indiana got runners on the corners with no outs to chase Williams who was replaced by Gavin Guidry. The Hoosiers were able to plate two runs to retake the lead, 5-4. LSU answered in the top of the eighth. Curiel started it with a single to left center. After Jake Brown flied out, Mason Braun singled up the middle. Yorke then stepped to the plate and hit a home run to right center field. Milam and Arrambide both walked. Then Dardar doubled to right field, scoring Milam and moving Arrambide to third. Ruckert was sent in to pinch run for Dardar. Tanner Reaves reached safely on a perfectly executed bunt. Arrambide and Ruckert scored on the play. Caraway then walked. runners on first and second with one out. Curiel walked to load the bases. Brown then grounded out, but scored Reaves while moving up the other runners. Braun singled to center field to plate two more runs. By the time Indiana was able to stop the bleeding with the third out, LSU had built a 13-5 lead, The Hoosiers were able to plate a couple of runs in the bottom of the eighth. 13-7, LSU as we moved to the ninth. LSU was able to plate an insurance run before the game headed to the bottom of the ninth. The Bayou Bengals improve to 6-0 on the season.
