Da Boot Sports 10/6/2024 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - Week six of the college football season delivered some fun, surprising and fantastic moments for most of us. #1, #4, #9, #10 and #11 all became victims of the upset bug. #11 USC fell to Minnesota, 24-17..... #10 Michigan lost to Washington, 27-17..... #9 Missouri was dominated by Texas A&M, 41-10..... #4 Tennessee was shocked by the Razorbacks in Arkansas, 19-14..... Then the biggest surprise of the day came in Nashville as Vanderbilt defeated #1 ranked Alabama, 40-35. So what do these results mean for our LSU Fighting Tigers? It opens up a huge door of opportunity for the Bayou Bengals who were sitting at #13 with a 4-1 record during their first bye week. Many feel, including myself that next weekend's matchup with the Ole Miss Rebels, Black Bears, LandSharks, whatever the hell they call themselves now, looms large for LSU. Perhaps the biggest game for Brian Kelly in his three year reign as head coach of the purple & gold. Ole Miss (5-1, 1-1) comes to Baton Rouge on Saturday, October 12 for a 6:30pm kickoff after bouncing back from a 20-17 loss at the hands of Kentucky, to solidly defeat South Carolina in Columbia, 27-3. A huge test for the Tigers on Saturday night. Hopefully with Death Valley roaring and rocking, LSU can somehow pull out a tremendous victory, putting themselves in a prime position to qualify for the 12 team playoff by season's end. But, if LSU can find away to defeat Ole Miss, the road ahead still remains a difficult one. It's life in the SEC. I feel like the Tigers will need to go 3-0 over the next three weeks if they want to inch closer to reaching their goal of post-season play. After Ole Miss, the Tigers travel to Arkansas, followed by a trip to College Station to face the Texas A&M Aggies before going into their second bye week of the season. Both Arkansas and A&M are playing really good football right now. Winning on the road in the SEC is a brutal accomplishment if you can escape with a 'W'. LSU is sitting in a good position. Now it's up to the rested Tigers to take advantage of a talented, but beat up Ole Miss team to begin the relentless road ahead. Do the Tigers have it in them? Questions will be answered. Have the Tigers been holding back some of the playbook waiting for this point of the season to begin? How good are the LSU Fighting Tigers? Well, Tiger fans, I think we are about to find out.
