BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Will Campbell and Emery Jones, college football’s top offensive tackle tandem, have been named to the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy, the Football Writers Association of America announced on Tuesday.

The Outland Trophy, celebrating 79 years since its founding, is the third-oldest major college
football award and honors the best interior lineman on either side of the ball. Former Tiger Glenn Dorsey won the Outland Trophy in 2007.

Campbell and Perkins are the cornerstone to one of the nation’s top offensive lines. Last year, the duo helped pave the way for record-breaking performances by Heisman Trophy quarterback Jayden Daniels and the LSU offense.

Both juniors, Campbell and Perkins have started 24 contests together on the offensive line and LSU is 18-6 in those games. In those 24 starts, LSU averaged 38 points and 482.8 total yards.

Among the highlights for the LSU duo include helping Daniels set an SEC record with 606
total yards of offense in the win over Florida in 2023; LSU racking up 701 total yards in the victory over the Gators – the most yards ever yielded by a Florida defense; Daniels setting the SEC mark for total offense in a season with 412.2 yards per game.

Last year, LSU’s offensive line – anchored by Campbell and Jones – was named as one of three finalists for the Joe Moore Award. The Tiger offensive line played a key role in LSU being in the only FBS team to finish in the Top 10 nationally in both rushing and passing yards per game last season.

Campbell, a native of Monroe, La. who prepped at Neville High School, has started 26 games and earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2023. As a freshman in 2022, Campbell earned second-team All-SEC honors as well as being selected as a Freshman All-America.

He’s been named a preseason All-America by Walter Camp.

He’s played every offensive snap in 15 of 17 games against SEC opponents and the Tigers
have averaged 39.8 points and 496.6 total yards with Campbell in the lineup.

Jones, a product of Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, took over as the starter at right tackle in week 3 of the 2022 season and has only missed one game since breaking into the lineup. He’s played every offensive snap in 16 of 17 SEC games that he’s appeared.

He earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2023 after picking up Freshman All-SEC accolades as a rookie in 2022.

Harold Perkins, one of college football’s top defensive playmakers, has been named to
the preseason watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Football Writers Association of America announced.

The Nagurski Trophy is presented annually to the nation’s top defender by the Charlotte Touchdown Club. LSU’s Glenn Dorsey won the award in 2007.

Perkins, now in his third season with the Tigers, has established himself as a game-wrecker on the defensive side of the ball. In two years, he’s tallied 26 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He’s also forced seven fumbles and intercepted a pair of passes. He has 147 career tackles.

Perkins showed his versatility last year in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Wisconsin when he scored his first career touchdown on a 1-yard run in the 35-31 LSU victory. It was Perkins’ first offensive snap as a Tiger.

Perkins, who also excels in the classroom, earned first-team All-SEC honors as a true freshman in 2022 followed by second-team recognition last year. He earned SEC Academic Honor Roll status in 2023 as well as First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2022.

As a rookie, Perkins was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week twice, SEC Freshman of the Week once and was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the road win over Arkansas.

BATON ROUGE – LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and wide receiver Kyren Lacy have been named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday.

The Maxwell Award, now in its 88th year, is presented annually to the outstanding player in college football. Joe Burrow is LSU’s only Maxwell Award winner, earning the honor in 2019. Last year, Heisman Trophy quarterback Jayden Daniels was one of three finalists for the award.

The Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell who was a former standout at Swarthmore College and a renowned sportswriter and football official.

Nussmeier and Lacy are among 80 players - 15 representing SEC teams - on the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award.

Nussmeier enters his first season as LSU’s starting quarterback, taking over for Daniels who was selected No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

In his lone LSU start, Nussmeier led the Tigers on a late fourth quarter touchdown drive to beat Wisconsin, 35-31, in the 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl. Nussmeier threw for 395 yards and three TDs on his way to earning game MVP honors in the win over Wisconsin.

His 31 completions and 395 passing yards against Wisconsin rank as the most in LSU history for a quarterback making his first start.

Lacy enters his third season with the Tigers in 2024 and figures to be the top receiving target for Nussmeier. Last year playing alongside first round NFL Draft picks in Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas, Lacy caught 30 passes for 558 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Maxwell Award is the first preseason watch list to be released for the 2024 season. The following is a list of each award along with the release date of the 2024 watch list:

2024 LSU FOOTBALL SEASON GAME BY GAME PREDICTION

By: Terrill J. Weil

BATON ROUGE, LA - The 2024 LSU football season is 39 days away. After finishing 10-3 last season the Tigers will look to take the next step into college football elite status.  There are a few questions that will need to be answered in 2024.
Can the LSU offense remain explosive with Garrett Nussmeier at the helm? Can the Tigers generate an effective, reliable running attack? Can the special team's return game finally begin to make a difference after three seasons of nonexistence?  Then there's the biggest question of them all, can new defensive coordinator Blake Baker return the roar to the Fighting Tigers' defense?
If the Tigers can stay healthy and enjoys some football fortune, I'm very optimistic that this team will do the LSU faithful proud with a very exciting and successful season. Below are my game by game predictions for the 2024 season.

   Sept. 1  USC

The Tigers start the season with a nationally televised, neutral sight contest against the USC Trojans at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev.
Look for the LSU offense to click nicely against an average at best USC defense and a much improved LSU defense will play well against a USC offense that lacks experience at key positions. After a competitive first half, the Tigers pull away for a 35-20 victory to start the season 1-0.

   Sept. 7  NICHOLLS

LSU returns home to begin the 100 years celebration of Tiger Stadium with a complete massacre of the Colonels. The Tigers dominate Nicholls with several second team players receiving valuable playing time in the second half as the Bayou Bengals win this one big, as they should, 72-10.

    Sept. 14  @ SOUTH CAROLINA

The 2-0 Tigers go on the road for their first SEC game of the young season. After a slow start LSU takes down the Gamecocks, 31-17 to improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

    Sept. 21  UCLA

LSU returns home to do battle with UCLA in Tiger Stadium. The Tigers offense explodes against a weak and struggling Bruins defense for a 45-21 victory.

   Sept. 28   SOUTH ALABAMA

The Jaguars of South Alabama come to Death Valley to face a red hot LSU squad. The Tigers waste little time jumping on their opponent and cruise to a 63-3 win.

   Oct. 12   OLE MISS

In perhaps the biggest game of the season, an undefeated Ole Miss team comes to Baton Rouge to take on the 5-0 Bayou Bengals in a top ten matchup. The game is an exciting shootout, but very similar to last season, the LSU defense can't find an answer to the Rebels explosive offensive attack, falling in a close nail biter, 42-38.

    Oct. 19  @ ARKANSAS

The Tigers bounce back on the road against a struggling Arkansas team with a 31-13 victory. With the win LSU improves to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in SEC play.

   Oct. 26   @ TEXAS A&M

LSU's next big challenge will be on the road in College Station against a tough Texas A&M team. The Tigers defense makes the big play when needed to win a close one, 31-27.

   Nov. 9   ALABAMA

The Tigers take on the Crimson Tide in Tiger Stadium. LSU wins game one of the post Nick Saban era in front of an electric crowd on a fun Saturday night, 28-24. The Tigers now sit at 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the SEC.

    Nov. 16   @ FLORIDA

LSU travels to Gainesville to face a Florida team that is struggling and on the brink of firing their head coach. Nussmeier has a field day against the Gators defense as the Tigers win, 38-24.

    Nov. 23    VANDERBILT

The Tigers returned home to dismantle Vanderbilt 52-13 to improve their record to 10-1 / 6-1.

    Nov. 30   OKLAHOMA

The Sooners come into Tiger Stadium with LSU needing to win to advance to the
SEC Championship Game and defeats the Tigers 38-35 in overtime. LSU finishes the regular season, 10-2 but just misses out on a trip to Atlanta to rematch Ole Miss.

Ole Miss and Texas play in Atlanta for the conference title, but the Tigers do qualify for the new NCAA 12 team playoffs and host a first round contest.

LSU Football Lands Commitment From Coveted Louisiana Safety Jhase Thomas

Brian Kelly and the LSU football staff continue rolling on the recruiting trail after landing a commitment from Destrehan (La.) four-star safety Jhase Thomas, he announced on Saturday.
The coveted Louisiana native revealed a commitment to the Tigers over Houston, Texas Tech and Colorado, among others.
After securing an offer from LSU in June, Thomas wasted no time in committing to the Bayou Bengals after announcing his pledge just weeks later.
Secondary coaches Corey Raymond and Jake Olsen add their first defensive back commitment in the 2025 cycle with Thomas now on board.
The 2025 stud has become a hot commodity on the recruiting trail as his ranking skyrockets ahead of what many expect to be a huge senior campaign.
He recently entered the Top 300 via On3 Sports recruiting rankings while elevating his status to a four-star prospect.
Thomas, who has NFL lineage, dominated the camp circuit after an impressive junior season at Destrehan. When he arrived in Baton Rouge for the LSU Elite Camp in June, Kelly and Co. wasted no time in offering the prized safety.
“Jhase Thomas was definitely someone that commanded a lot of attention from the LSU staff,” On3 National Scout Cody Bellaire said on The Bengal Tiger Podcast. “When I tell you that this cat was offered directly after testing, he quite literally ran his 40, went to the warm-up area to wait for drills to start, the personnel staff ran the numbers to Brian Kelly. He calls Jhase over and boom, that’s it. Offered, done. Before he even works out. Obviously, one of the big questions they had with him going into this was some of the top end speed, overall athleticism and size.”
The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder reportedly logged a pair of 40-yard dashes in the 4.4 range while piecing together an impressive all-around performance during drill work.
LSU has developed an efficient Destrehan to Baton Rouge pipeline over the years with the most recent success story coming from Justin Jefferson.
Jefferson, who just inked the largest non-quarterback contract in NFL history, took Death Valley by storm during his time in the purple and gold.
Now, Thomas looks to be next in line after revealing a commitment to the LSU Tigers with the Louisiana native becoming the 16th pledge in the 2025 cycle.
Kelly and the Tigers remain hot on the recruiting trail with Thomas becoming the fourth 2025 commitment to announce a pledge in July.

BATON ROUGE – Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, linebacker Harold Perkins and tight end Mason Taylor will join LSU head coach Brian Kelly at SEC Media Day next week when the four-day event is held in Dallas.

SEC Media Days takes place Monday, July 15 through Thursday, July 18 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas. LSU will be joined on day one by Ole Miss, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. LSU’s rotation runs from 10 a.m. until 12:55 p.m.

Fans can follow along on the SEC Network as they will provide coverage throughout the day on their various shows including SEC This Morning, SEC Now and The Paul Finebaum Show. LSU will also provide behind-the-scenes coverage from media day on its official social media channels.

Nussmeier enters his first season as LSU’s starting quarterback, taking over for Heisman winner Jayden Daniels. Nussmeier earned ReliaQuest Bowl MVP honors in January, passing for 395 yards and three TDs in LSU’s 35-31 comeback win over Wisconsin.

Now in his fourth season with the Tigers, Nussmeier has thrown for 1,720 yards and 11 TDs in 18 career appearances.

Perkins enters his third season as a starting linebacker for the Tigers, developing into one of the nation’s top playmakers on defense. Perkins earned first-team All-SEC honors as a freshman followed by second-team accolades a year ago. In 27 career games, Perkins has tallied 147 tackles, 26 tackles for loss and 13 sacks.

Taylor, also a two-year starter for the Tigers, is one of the nation’s top tight ends entering 2024. He’s caught 74 passes for 762 yards and four touchdowns during his 26-game career. His top reception came in overtime in LSU’s win over Alabama in 2022 when he hauled in a two-point conversion that propelled the Tigers to a 32-21 victory over the Crimson Tide. Taylor has caught a pass in 16 consecutive games and ranks No. 4 in LSU history in receptions by a tight end.

LSU officially reports for training camp on July 31 with its first practice scheduled for the following day. The Tigers open their third season under Kelly on Sunday, September 1 when they face Southern Cal in Las Vegas.

BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU Fans once again have high expectations for their Fighting Tigers as the 2024 season approaches. The Bayou Bengals are coming off of a 10-3 season and will be without their electrifying Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Jayden Daniels as well as Malik Nabors and Brian Thomas III who have all moved on to the NFL. The big question mark for the upcoming campaign is the defense. Last season the Tigers defense was a horrorfest nightmare, causing LSU a legitimate shot at possibly playing for a national championship. If newly hired defensive coordinator Blake Baker can put a competitive defense on the field LSU should be tough to beat.

    OFFENSIVE PREVIEW

2024 begins the Garrett Nussmeier era in Baton Rouge. The Junior gunslinger has the potential to be a special player. AJ Swann looks to be the backup as the Vanderbilt transfer brings solid SEC experience to the bayou.

Nussmeier will have quality weapons to work with. His top target is expected to be Senior Kyren Lacy who finished last season with 558 yards and seven touchdown grabs and should have a breakout season. Chris Hilton Jr., Aaron Anderson and Liberty transfer CJ Daniels will get their opportunity to step up and shine.
Look for tight end Mason Taylor to play a bigger role in the offensive attack in 2024.

LSU will need to establish a steady running attack to replace Jayden Daniels' 1,134 rushing yards. and amazing scrambles and runs. The Tigers have a nice stable of backs who will share the load. Josh Williams, Caleb Jackson, John Emery Jr. and four star true freshman Caden Durham are all capable backs. Redshirt Freshman Trey Holly is still listed on the team roster, but his future with the team is still a mystery.

The offensive line has got the be this team's biggest strength, with an experienced, talented group. The tackles are as solid as it gets with Will Campbell and Emery Jones Jr. . Miles Frazier and Garrett Dellinger are the guards. The only question mark will be at the center position where it looks like redshirt freshman DJ Chester will be the starter.

DEFENSIVE PREVIEW
The LSU defense was a train wreck in 2023, finishing this season 80th in scoring defense, giving up 27.8 points per game. Against Power Five competition, the Tigers’ points per game allowed jumps up to 34.3 points per game. LSU was also 104th in total defense, giving up 409.2 yards per game.
Brian Kelly fired defense coordinator Matt House and several defensive staff members, bringing in Blake Baker from Missouri to lead the defense. This unit can only geaux up after hitting rock bottom last season.

The defensive line lacks depth and will be a concern. Defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory will be an anchor up front. The 5th year senior needs to have a big season. Wisconsin transfer Gio Paez is currently a favorite to line up next to Guillory. Jalen Lee will also be counted on up front. Jay'vian Jones is a nice transfer portal addition who brings badly needed depth and experience to the defensive front.
Sai'vion Jones will be key at defensive end. At 6-6, 280 lbs, Jones should be a force on Saturdays. Bradyn Swinson should line up at the other end for the Tigers and is expected to be a productive piece of the defense. Da' Shawn Womack will get some snaps and has strong potential.

No doubt, the linebacker position is the strength of this defense. Looks like super talented Harold Perkins will be playing at weak side linebacker in 2024. No matter how LSU decides to use him, he will have an impact. Greg Penn III is as steady as it gets. Look for him to show improvement. Whit Weeks will be a big contributor. West Weeks brings veteran experience and true freshmen Tylen Singleton and Dahvon Keys will add talented depth.

The secondary struggled in 2023, but look for tremendous improvement this season. Zy Alexander will start at one cornerback spots. True freshman PJ Woodland was impressive in the spring and has an opportunity to see the field often. Ashton Stamps will be a key piece to the secondary. JK Johnson, Jyaire Brown and Javien Toviano add capable depth and should all should see snaps.
Sage Ryan will be the leader of this group. He is a playmaker and will be key to the Tigers defensive success. Jarden Gilbert should be a starter at free safety. The Texas A&M transfer brings solid coverage skills and a physical presence in the secondary. True freshman Dashawn McBryde is a beast and will contribute in 2024. Jardin Gilbert and Jordan Allen add solid depth.
Look for Major Burns to be a huge playmaker for the Tigers as he will be featured in a new position called the 'STAR'. Burns will be moving around and using his athletic ability to make game changing plays.

    SPECIAL TEAMS
Junior Damian Ramos returns and should remain LSU's first team kicker. He has turned into an accurate and dependable place kicker.
Punting duties or up in the air. Both Blake Ochsendorf who just transferred from Louisiana Tech and Peyton Todd are battling it out for the top spot.
Look for Mississippi State transfer Zavion Thomas to be a big part of the return game. He adds much needed special teams experience for the Tigers. Kickoff returners may not be penciled in until closer to the beginning of the season. But expect the return game to improve tremendously.

Over all if these LSU team can stay healthy, play to their potential and have the ball bounced their way during key moments, they could very well find themselves qualify for the new NCAA 12-team playoff bracket. LSU will open their season on Sunday, September 1st against USC in Las Vegas. Get ready Tiger fans, the 2024 season is right around the corner.

BATON ROUGE – A pair of LSU juniors – Will Campbell and Harold Perkins – have been named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-America Team, the organization announced on Monday.

Campbell, a two-year starter at left tackle, earned first-team recognition, while Perkins was selected to the second-team.

Last year, LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels earned Walter Camp Player of the Year honors, while wide receiver Malik Nabers was named to the first-team.

Campbell enters his third season with the Tigers in 2024 and he’s established himself as one of the top offensive linemen in school history. Campbell has started every game (26) in which he’s appeared and he’s played every offensive snap in 15 of LSU’s 17 games against SEC opponents.

Campbell earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2023 after picking up second-team accolades as a true freshman in 2022. He was named to the Freshman All-America team by the Football Writers Association of America in 2022 as well as being a Freshman All-SEC selection.

Last year, Campbell played a key role in an LSU offense that led the nation in both scoring (45.5) and yards per game (543.5) and one that produced the winner of the Heisman Trophy in Daniels. LSU’s 2023 offensive line was one of three finalists for the Joe Moore Award, which is presented annually to the top offensive lines in college football.

In two years with the Tigers, Campbell has helped LSU average 39.8 points and 496.6 total yards per game. The Tigers have also won 20 games, including a pair of bowl victories, with Campbell in the lineup.

Perkins, a New Orleans native, is one of the top playmaking linebackers in college football, accumulating   147 tackles, 26.0 tackles for loss and 13 sacks in his first two years with the Tigers.

Perkins earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2022 and was named second-team all-conference last year. He’s also earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors twice and SEC Freshman of the Week one time during his career. He was named Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance (8 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles) in LSU’s win over Arkansas in 2022.

As a rookie, Perkins earned Freshman All-America honors and was selected to the Freshman All-SEC team.

Off the field, both Perkins and Campbell have been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
