Da Boot Sports 8/30/2025 By: Jason Watson Jr. Memorial Stadium, Clemson, SC- #9 LSU defeated #4 Clemson by a final score of 17-10 on Saturday night. The victory marked the first season-opening win for the Tigers in six years. After a rocky start in the first 30 minutes of play, the Tigers hunkered down and played an excellent second half to escape the hostile “Death Valley” on top. Clemson won the coin toss and elected to defer, sending Garrett Nussmeier and the LSU offense onto the field first. After a couple of first downs, the Tigers faced a third and long, causing the first timeout of the half to be called before the snap. LSU would go on to punt the ball away, but Blake Baker’s defense forced a quick three and out thanks in large part to a PJ Woodland sack of Cade Klubnik. LSU’s Bauer Sharp would cough up a fumble on the ensuing possession which gave Clemson the ball inside the red zone. An excellent defensive effort on the short-field scenario minimized the consequences. The home team struck first with a 42-yard field goal; Clemson led 3-0. A back and forth defensive first quarter came to a close with both sides utilizing two timeouts, but Damian Ramos would come through for the LSU Tigers with a 53-yard field goal to tie things at three with 10:53 to go in the second quarter. Clemson responded in a big way with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a touchdown run on fourth and goal. The series was enough to put the Tigers up 10-3. With 4:36 remaining in the half, LSU took over and proceeded to use creative chunk plays to get down within the red zone. After utilizing their final timeout of the half with just seconds showing on the game clock, LSU attempted a fourth and two, but failed after a catch and fumble well short of the line-to-gain. Clemson kneeled to end the quarter and head to the locker rooms up by seven. Dabo Swinney’s offense began the second half with a drive into LSU territory, but ultimately came up empty-handed after a missed 48-yard field goal attempt. Nussmeier and the Tiger offense took full advantage, capping their ensuing possession with a game-tying touchdown run from Caden Durham. Wideout Aaron Anderson had gains of 39 and 14 on the series. Cade Klubnik was pressured into his first mistake of the game just a couple of snaps later. Heavy pressure collapsed the pocket and forced an errant throw that wound up in the hands of LSU’s Mansoor Delane. Just when you thought all momentum had swung in favor of LSU, forces beyond the Tigers’ control came into effect. Garrett Nussmeier had seemingly hit Barion Brown for a deep TD along the sideline, but was ruled down at the one-yard line. Even after getting a foot in bounds, crossing the goal line and hitting the pylon, referees overturned the call to an incomplete pass upon further review. To make things worse, LSU would attempt a field goal that wound up getting hooked and going wide of the uprights. The game remained tied at ten apiece. Blake Baker’s defense would get out of the jam by forcing another Clemson three-and-out before the close of the third quarter. Next time up… LSU would not be denied. Nussmeier and the Tiger offense went on an 11-play, 73-yard drive while mixing run and pass plays before punctuating the drive with a no-doubt-about-it pitch and catch to Trey’Dez Green for a go-ahead touchdown. With 12:18 to go in the contest, the visitors led 17-10. The fourth quarter went punt for punt up until the final Clemson drive. LSU drained as much clock as they possibly could before punting the ball back to Klubnik and the home team Tigers. With less than two minutes to play, Clemson worked their offense into deep LSU territory. Massive defensive plays from PJ Woodland and Harold Perkins put an effective end to the Clemson drive and the game. Blake Baker’s defense outmatched the Heisman hopeful QB and gave the visitors from Baton Rouge the edge in an emphatic 17-10 victory! 1-0! Geaux Tigers! **Thanks for reading! Brian Kelly stated that after a very physical practice on Thursday, the team had a lighter day on Friday morning. Today's the team worked more on the mental and focusing part of the game as they stayed indoors and had a light type of practice without pads. Garrett Nussmeier had a light day as Micahel Van Buren Jr. took a lot of snaps with the first unit and made some nice throws. Brian Kelly mentioned that Chris Hilton and Jardin Gilbert were absent from practice today due to graduation. Congratulations to them both. LSU freshman running back turns himself in on accessory chargeDa Boot Sports 8/8/2025 Article Courtesy of WAFB By: Chris Nakamoto BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A freshman LSU football running back turned himself in to university police early Friday afternoon after an arrest warrant was issued for him on two felony counts of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder, his attorney said. The player, JT Lindsey of Alexandria, is accused of allowing two teenagers wanted on second-degree murder charges to stay at his dorm on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge earlier this year. The suspects, 17-year-old Shemell Jacobs and 18-year-old Keldrick Jordan, were arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in the Riverbend Building of the Nicholson Gateway dorms on Monday, August 4, 2025. Lindsey went to high school in Alexandria with the two suspects. It’s believed the pair had been staying in his LSU on-campus apartment for nearly two weeks, a source familiar with the case told the WAFB I-TEAM. A source tells the WAFB I-TEAM that marshals found multiple guns in the apartment-style dorm, including two AR-15 rifles, a Draco, and a Glock. They were wanted in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Corey Brooks that happened in Alexandria last May. Brian Kelly was very pleased with today's practice. The Tigers also had a slightly extended practice on Tuesday. Sadly, the offensive line is still struggling with run blocking. This unit needs to gel and improve in that area before the Tigers face a very strong Clemson defensive front in the season opener. The defensive line looks very solid and should be a strength on this defense. Kyle Williams is doing an amazing job with this group. LSU's Wednesday practice will be closed to the media. The Tigers will then have a recovery day on Thursday before returning to practice on Friday morning. Michael Van Buren is having his troubles with some inconsistence throws.
