OXFORD, MS - In one of the biggest college football games of the week, #4 LSU (4-0) traveled to Oxford to take on #13 Ole Miss (4-0) and struggled offensively most of the day, falling to the Rebels, 24-19.

After both teams took turns punting, LSU got going on their second possession. The Tigers drove 67 yards in five plays, scoring on a seven yard touchdown pass from Garrett Nussmeier to Nic Anderson. The pass was actually attended for Trey'Dez Green in the corner of the end zone, but was batted away by an Ole Miss defender. Anderson was able to grab the ball out of the air for the score. The key play of the drive was a 52 yard completion from Nussmeier to Zavion Thomas, setting LSU up first and ten at the Rebels' 17 yard line.  7-0, Tigers with 9:10 left in the opening quarter.

Ole Miss responded, driving 83 yards in 18 plays, before having to settle for a 25 yard field goal by Lucas Carneiero. 7-3, LSU with 1:40 left in the first quarter.

Nussmeier made his first mistake of the contest, throwing an interception at the Ole Miss 12 yard line. The receiver was covered and Nuss tried to force it in, killing a nice drive. The Rebels took over on their own 12 and LSU lost a huge opportunity to put points on the board with 14:16 left in the first half.

The LSU defense came up with their first turnover of the day. Trinidad Chambliss completed a deep pass to Cayden Lee at the LSU 12. AJ Haulcy punched the ball loose into the end zone where Whit Weeks made the recovery for a touchback. Still 7-3, LSU with 8:00 left in the second quarter.

After a LSU punt, Ole Miss drove 70 yards in five plays, aided by four LSU defensive penalties, to take the lead, 10-7 on a 15 yard touchdown run by Kewan Lacy. 10-7 Rebels with 5:09 left in the first half.

Ole Miss extended their advantage to 17-7 after starting their last drive of the half at their own 31 yard line, moving quickly into LSU territory. Chambliss hit Cayden Lee in the end zone from two yards out for the score. The drive covered 69 yards on nine plays. The game moved to halftime with Ole Miss on top, 17-7.

Still without a running game and Garrett Nussmeier struggling, the LSU offense sputtered badly in the first half, only managing 7 points and 126 total yards. Nussmeier was 9-15 for 102 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The Tigers only rushed for 24 yards in the first half.
Ole Miss started the contest slow offensively, but then punished a tired LSU defense for 285 total yards and 17 points. It could of been worse.

LSU was able to cut into the lead on their second possession of the third quarter, driving 33 yards in eight plays, culminating with a 40 yard Damian Ramos field goal. With 6:02 left in the quarter, Ole Miss led, 17-10.

PJ Woodland came up with a huge interception to stop an Ole Miss drive. The turnover set LSU up, first and ten at the Rebels' 47.

LSU could only manage another Damian Ramos field goal off of the turnover. The 48 yard field goal pulled the Bayou Bengals to within, 17-13 with only 58 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The Rebels answered the LSU field goals, going on a 11 play, 75 yard drive, ending with a Logan Diggs six yard touchdown run. 24-13, Ole Miss with 11:08 left in the contest.

LSU dug deep down and went on a 15 play, 80 yard drive, scoring on a six yard run by Harlem Berry (the first of his LSU career). The two point conversion failed. 24-19, Rebels with 5:04 remaining.

Ole Miss took the ball on their next possession and turned out the lights, driving into LSU territory and running the game clock down to earn the victory.

Nussmeier finished his day going, 21-34 for 197 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Harlem Berry led the team in rushing with 22 yards on seven carries and a touchdown. LSU finished the game with only 57 total yards rushing. Barion Brown led all receivers with 40 yards on five catches.
AJ Haulcy had a great game, making several big plays while leading the team in tackles with 13. Mansoor Delane finished with 11 tackles. The defense registered zero sacks while managing two turnovers on the day. They simply had no help from a struggling offense.

With the loss, the Tigers are now, 4-1 overall and 1-1 in SEC Play. LSU has an off week next, which is coming at the right time so they can regroup and heal some injuries. Their next contest will be on Saturday, October 11 in Tiger Stadium against South Carolina. Kickoff time is still TBA.

BATON ROUGE – LSU Football will play Arkansas, Ole Miss and Texas A&M annually beginning in 2026, the Southeastern Conference announced on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the league office announced opponents and sites for SEC football games for the 2026 through 2029 seasons. The new scheduling is a result of the league implementing a nine-game conference schedule beginning in 2026.

In the new format, each SEC school will play every other SEC school at least once every two years, and every opponent home and away over four years, making it the most fair and balanced schedule in the history of the Conference.

Under the new format, each school will play three annual opponents focused on maintaining many traditional rivalries and each team’s remaining six games will rotate among the remaining conference schools. The SEC will continue with a single-standings, non-divisional structure.

In addition to the conference opponents, SEC teams are required to schedule at least one additional high quality non-conference contest against a team from the Atlantic Coast, Big Ten or Big 12 conferences or Notre Dame each season.

The SEC used the following to determine annual and rotating opponents for the next four years:

Annual Opponents
• Annual opponents were determined with consideration given to traditional rivalries, competitive fairness, geography and alignment with existing non-conference home/away commitments
• Annual opponents will be evaluated after each four-year cycle to maintain continued competitive balance

Rotating Opponents
• The remaining six conference games will come from a rotating pool of the other conference teams
• The rotating schedule is designed so that a team will play every other conference opponent at least once every two years and twice (once at home and once away) over a four-year period

Balance
• With nine conference games, eight schools will play five home games each season and eight schools will play four home games
• Home/away determination was made with the intent of providing seven home games for each school while balancing existing home/away commitments to annual non-conference rivalry games.
• To meet the scheduling priorities established by the conference and its members, the 2026 conference schedule includes cases where schools play at the same venue in back-to-back years. This has occurred in the past when the SEC has changed football scheduling formats.

The complete 2026 SEC Football Schedule to include dates of games will be announced later this year.

LSU’s 2026 home schedule will feature conference games against Texas A&M, Alabama, Mississippi State and Texas. Texas will be making its first trip to Tiger Stadium since 1953 next year. LSU will open the 2026 season against Clemson in Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers will go on the road to face Arkansas, Ole Miss, Auburn, Kentucky and Tennessee next season.

The following is a look at LSU’s SEC schedule from 2026-2029.

LSU’S SPEARS EARNS NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

   Article By: Michael Bonnette

BATON ROUGE – LSU safety Dashawn Spears picked up a national honor on Tuesday following his two-interception performance in the 20-10 win over Florida.

A day after earning SEC Defensive Player of the Week, Spears has been named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week.

It’s the second time this year an LSU defensive back has been recognized as a national award winner. Cornerback Mansoor Delane earned Bednarik Award National Player of the Week honors for his play in the win over Clemson in week 1.

Spears, a sophomore from Denham Springs, had interceptions in the first and third quarters as the Tigers picked off a total of five Florida passes in the victory. Spears’ first quarter interception stopped a Florida drive at the LSU 26-yard line.

He returned his third quarter interception 58 yards for a touchdown, extending No. 3-ranked LSU’s lead to 20-10. Spears added two tackles in the contest as LSU (3-0, 1-0 SEC) held Florida scoreless in the second half in running its winning streak to six straight dating back to last season.

Through three games, LSU’s defense is allowing only 9.0 points and league-best 56.0 rushing yards a game. In 31 possessions, LSU had limited its opponent to only three touchdowns and has allowed only four trips inside the redzone.

BATON ROUGE, LA - Brian Kelly held his weekly game press conference on Monday afternoon to discuss the upcoming contest with the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana.  Coach Kelly was apologetic to the media for the way he responded to certain questions during the post game press conference on Saturday night.

Kelly also announced that Garrett Nussmeier has been playing with an injury. "I'll be honest and I wasn't going to get into this with you guys, but I will, he's been slowed a little bit with a torso injury." Brian Kelly said. "He's fighting through it and he's getting better. He's not going to be able to shut it down until we get to the bye week."

LSU will host Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, September 20. Kickoff is set for 6:45pm and will be televised on the SEC Network.

Video of the press conference is posted below.

BATON ROUGE, LA - In front of a 102,158 Tiger Stadium crowd, the #3 LSU Tigers defended their home field with a defensively sound performance that resulted in a 20-10 victory over the Florida Gators. In a chippy game, LSU avenged its 2024 loss to UF.
LSU received the ball after Florida won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. The offense would go three-and-out on their opening drive before things got testy in Tiger Stadium.

On Florida’s opening offensive series, LSU star linebacker Whit Weeks was ejected from the remainder of the contest following a questionable targeting penalty, not even five minutes into the first quarter of play. Blake Baker’s defense would go on to hold Florida  to a field goal, but not before losing a key player.

Dashawn Spears put the Tiger defense on his back on the ensuing Gator drive. After a UF timeout and holding penalty set DJ Lagway back, he threw an errant pass on third and ten that wound up in the arms of Spears for the interception.

After another LSU punt, the Florida Gators had seemingly scored the first touchdown of the contest on a busted coverage play. However, the score was called back on a second holding flag against UF. LSU would get the ball back inside of Florida territory, but could only muster a game-tying 47-yard Field goal as the second quarter got underway.

LSU would force Florida into a punt, then Garrett Nussmeier and the Tigers’ offense took over. LSU scored on back-to-back possessions after a Zavion Thomas 23-yard touchdown reception capped a 76-yard scoring drive. The play put the Tigers up 10-3.

The lead would not last long. DJ Lagway led UF to a touchdown series of their own on the ensuing drive. He would hook up with Aidan Mizell for a 10-yard TD with 3:25 left in the first half.

An AJ Haulcy interception with just seconds before the end of the first half would set LSU up with an opportunity for a FGA before the break, and Damian Ramos converted a 45-yard attempt to give the Tigers a 13-10 edge.

Following an exchange of punts in the second half, Dashawn Spears decided he wanted to play offense. Florida’s Lagway threw away his third INT of the night and second to Spears, but this one went to the opposite end zone for a 58-yard pick-six. The Tigers would extend their lead to ten points.

After a mostly uneventful third quarter, Garrett Nussmeier made a big 65-yard pass to Bauer Sharp as he split the middle seam. After that play…? Everything went downhill. The Tigers fumbled for a loss of 17 yards, then Nuss followed that up by throwing an interception himself.

The inability to score points on offense just allowed the Gators to hang in this one, but Lagway’s fourth and fifth INTs of the game to Tamarcus Cooley and DJ Pickett gave the Tigers all of the separation they would need to secure the 20-10 victory.

Great news! Braelin Moore doesn't have a high ankle sprain as first thought. His return will be day-to-day. Trey'Dez Green has a MCL sprain. He will return at some point this season. Hopefully both of them can return by the South Carolina contest.

TIGERMARK'S GAME TAKES AGAINST LOUISIANA TECH

BATON ROUGE, LA - On a warm September afternoon, LSU took the field in a nearly sold out Tiger Stadium. As the band played, the fans jumped to their feet with excitement about the Tiger's home opener against Tech, moments away from opening kickoff, anticipating what kind of show the Tigers were about to put on.

After last week’s performance against Clemson, we were locked in and ready for a show of offensive explosion, but in the words of the great Lee Corso, "Not so fast my friend!"  La Tech Head Coach Sonny Cumbie and a determined bunch of Bulldogs from Ruston would have a lot to say about it.

Tech's defense stymied LSU and Garrett Nussmeier all night, coming at LSU's offensive-line and Nussmeier with all types of looks and blitz packages.

LSU opened the game with a nice drive only to have it end with a Nussmeier interception after he badly under threw a wide open Barion Brown.

For most of the night the LSU offense, along with Nussmeier struggled.  Nussmeier, a potentially Heisman Trophy candidate, looked to be off tonight, a step or two behind on his throws.

LSU inability to run the ball against a tough Tech defensive front made it harder to set up pass plays, because most of the time LSU was in passing situations and Tech knew it and was able to make the adjustments on passing downs.

Despite the lackluster offensive performance, the Tigers were able to muster up enough offense and take care of the Bulldogs by a final score of 23-7.

Nussmeier finished the night 26/41 for 237 yards with 1 interception and 1 touchdown. Nuss was also sacked three times.

Newcomer Barion Brown lead the Tigers in receiving with eight catches for 94 yards.

LSU struggled to run the ball all night. After a nice performance against Clemson, the run game took a few steps back. LSU's only success running tonight was on sweep plays by wide receivers but nothing up the middle was open all night.

Losing Braelin Moore to injury didn’t help, but there were flashes of hope as 5-star, true freshman running back Harlem Berry broke loose on a 43 yd run. Berry ended up being the Tigers leading rusher on the night, finishing with 56 yards on six carries.

LSU fans and coaches hoped to avoid any injuries this game, but unfortunately the Tigers lost Trey'Dez Green and Braelin Moore to injury. Hopefully it’s nothing serious and they can return soon. Both players will have MRI's done on Monday to see how serious the injuries are.

The Tigers' defense looked good again tonight and didn’t let the fans down, as they held La Tech to 154 yds of total offense.

The defense was led by West Weeks, who had ten tackles and Davhon Keys, nine tackles. It was another solid performance, the only blemish came on a busted coverage on a 4th down that allowed Tech there only points of the night.

LSU's win tonight was sloppy to say the least, but I believe in Coach Kelly and what he’s building at our great university. It's not all on the coaching, the players have to execute and I think they will move forward. It starts in practice this week in preparation for Florida coming to town next Saturday.
