Da Boot Sports 10/31/2025 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - Verge Ausberry should be LSU's next athletic director. No need to search for Scott Woodward's replacement when the right gentleman for the job is already in place. No doubt, Ausberry, who is filling in as the interim AD after Woodward's release on Thursday night, is the perfect candidate for the position. Ausberry was a standout linebacker at LSU and is very respected for the incredible job he has done for the University. He has been a part of the athletic dept. for 24 years, having held several different positions. Since 2019, he has been the Executive Deputy Director of Athletics and Executive Director of External Relations for LSU. As the Executive Deputy AD, Ausberry has been responsible for helping run the athletic department and its daily operations. Mr. Ausberry also holds a position with the TAF and serves as the sport administrator for the football program, women's basketball and gymnastics team. Ausberry will lead a formed committee in the athletic department to search for and hire LSU's new head football coach. Verge Ausberry is an LSU alum, a solid, major part of the LSU family, bleeds purple and gold and is no doubt, the right individual for the job. LSU, please make the correct, very important decision by naming Mr. Verge Ausberry the new athletic director at Louisiana State University so he can lead our athletics successfully into the future. Da Boot Sports 10/30/2025 By: Da Boot Sports Staff BATON ROUGE, LA - Scott Woodward is gone. LSU has decided to part ways with the athletic director as they are currently working on an exit agreement. Woodward who has been LSU's athletic director since 2019 is responsible for the two biggest contract buyouts in college football history. $76 million to Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M and $53 million to Brian Kelly at LSU. Woodward has a $6.4 million buyout himself. Executive Deputy Athletic Director Verge Ausberry will serve as interim AD until a replacement is found. So big changes continue to happen at LSU as they move on from the disappointing Brian Kelly era. LSU will hold a press conference on Friday to make the official announcement. **Please be sure to go to our Da Boot Sports YouTube Channel every Monday night at 8pm CST for our live podcast, Talking Tigers with Da Boot Sports! Da Boot Sports 10/27/2025 By: Terrill J. Weil Now that Brian Kelly is gone, it's time for the coaching search to begin. For me personally, the only correct choice for LSU to make is bring back Nick Saban. It can be done. Nick Saban has gone on to have a fun career co-hosting on ESPN's College Gameday. But you can see the fire still burning in his eyes. He shows his brilliance and passion when he has his game film break down segments on the show. If Saban hasn't had thought's or an interest in returning to coaching, then he isn't human, especially with the LSU job opening up last night. There are other coaches in Saban's age range currently coaching. Pete Carroll with the Las Vegas Raiders, Bill Belichick at North Carolina and Kirk Ferentz at Iowa. Remember, Coach Saban and his wife Terry loved their time in Baton Rouge, making lifelong friends and creating roots here that they will always consider home. When her husband took the Miami Dolphins job, Terry Saban was devastated to leave Baton Rouge. You better believe that Nick and Terry would love to return and reunite with the purple and gold. Nick Saban could give LSU at least five solid seasons. Bring the program back to dominance while also hand picking his top assistant coach who will be "head coach in waiting" to step in and take over when the master finally decides to step down for good. Saban has proved time and time again that he knows how to hire talented, up and coming assistants and coordinators who are the perfect fit for the program. Some have gone on to be successful head coaches. Kirby Smart, Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian and Dan Lanning have all gone on to successful head coaching careers after working under Saban. Also, what young man wouldn't want the opportunity to play for Nick Saban?? Top rated recruits and top players in the transfer portal would be banging at the door to have the opportunity to play for the greatest coach in the history of college football. As well as claiming to have been part of Nick Saban's return to Baton Rouge and part of another Saban led LSU national championship. Saban's road to greatness began at LSU in 2000. What better way to end your career by going full circle, returning to where your journey began and finish it off there. Nick Saban has admitted leaving LSU for the NFL was to biggest mistake of his coaching career. Many have said, it would never happen. But never say never! LSU has everything that Saban would look for in a return to coaching. The in-state talent, the facilities, deep pocket supporters and an incredible NIL department and staff that is the best in the nation and takes a back seat to no one. Something he didn't have (a major NIL support staff) at Alabama when he decided to step down. LSU needs to make this happen. Do whatever it takes to bring the legend back to Baton Rouge. The LSU athletics department won't be sorry. He would bring us another national championship and future stability to the program. Nick Saban belongs back in the bayou. Now is the right time for it to happen and when it does, it will be the top story of the football world. With Saban's return to LSU, the national coverage would reach incredible heights. Make it happen Scott Woodward. Contact Nick Saban's agent now and bring him back home. **Please be sure to go to our Da Boot Sports YouTube Channel every Monday night at 8pm CST for our live podcast, Talking Tigers with Da Boot Sports! Da Boot Sports 10/26/2025 By: Da Boot Sports Staff BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU has fired Brian Kelly. Frank Wilson will be the associate head coach for the remainder of the 2025 season. Under Kelly, LSU has lost three of its last four game. The final blow was the 49-25 blowout loss to Texas A&M this past Saturday night. Brian Kelly leaves LSU with a 34-13 overall record and a SEC record of 19-10. He signed a ten year, $100 million contract with LSU before the 2022 season. No details have been released yet on the official financial buyout of his contract. It was reported that Kelly was indeed contemplating retirement at season's end and had been in negotiations with LSU officials throughout the day to work out a parting deal. So LSU now joins several other programs who have decided to fire their head coach in mid-season and the coaching search will now begin. *BRING NICK SABAN BACK TO BATON ROUGE! Da Boot Sports 10/25/2025 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Fighting Tigers returned home after their disappointing loss to Vanderbilt looking to bounce back against #3 ranked Texas A&M on Saturday night in Death Valley. Unfortunately, it wouldn't happen. After a competitive opening 30 minutes, the Tigers fell apart in the second half as the Aggies won, 49-25 in dominating fashion. It was difficult to watch. The Tigers played with zero life in the second half. It was an ugly and embarrassing performance. Garrett Nussmeier finished his night going, 22-35 for 168 yards and a touchdown. he was sacked seven times. Michael Van Buren took over on LSU's final drive of the night and went, 3-4 for 50 yards and a touchdown. Harlem Berry led the team in rushing with 59 yards on nine carries and a touchdown. Caden Durham rushed for 36 yards on five carries. Trey'Dez Green was the Tigers leading receiver with 54 yards on six catches with a touchdown. The LSU offense only managed 278 total yards, only 89 yards in the second half. The Tigers rushed for 68 yards in the first half and finished with minus 8 yards rushing in the second. AJ Haulcy led the defense with 12 tackles and an interception. Once again, LSU couldn't contain Marcel Reed who rushed for 108 yards on 13 carries with two rushing touchdowns. He also passed for 202 yards and two touchdowns. The Aggies racked up 426 total yards against the LSU defense. After LSU failed to move the ball on the opening possession of the contest, Texas A&M did the opposite on their first possession, driving 68 yards on six plays, culminating with a 41 yard electric touchdown run by Marcel Reed. 7-0, Aggiies with 10:10 left in the first quarter. LSU responded beautifully, driving 74 yards in eight plays. The score came on a five yard touchdown pass from Garrett Nussmeier to Trey'Dez Green. With 5:38 remaining in the quarter, the game was no even at 7-7. It was probably LSU'S finest offensice drive of the season. The Aggies answered to retake the lead, driving 75 yards in ten plays. This time Marcel Reed found KC Concepcion in the end zone for a 15 yard touchdown. 14-7, Texas A&M with on 40 seconds left in the opening quarter. LSU was able to cut the lead to 14-9 early in the second quarter when Jhase Thomas blocked a Texas A&M punt deep in Aggie territory. The ball went into and out of the end zone for a safety. The LSU defense came up with their first turnover of the game and it was a big one. With Texas A&M facing a third and goal at the three, AJ Haulcy intercepted Reed in the end zone and returned it out to the LSU 25 yard line. The Bayou Bengals took their first lead of the contest, on a beautiful seven yard touchdown run by Harlem Berry. The drive went 75 yards on eight plays. The highlight of the drive was a huge 41 yard bomb completion from Garrett Nussmeier to Barion Brown who made a sensational catch on the play. Damion Ramos unfortunately missed the extra point. At the 3:09 mark of the second quarter, LSU held a 15-14 advantage. The LSU defense stepped up with another turnover. Mansoor Delane deflected a Marcel Reed pass into the air that Harold Perkins came down with at the LSU 48 yard line. LSU's offense drove to the A&M 13 yard line, but had to settle for a Damion Ramos 30 yard field goal with 30 seconds remaining in the first half. The Tigers would take an 18-14 lead into the locker room at the half. Texas A&M took the second half kickoff and easily drove 56 yards in nine plays, culminating with a five yard touchdown run by Marcel Reed. 21-18, Aggies with 10:41 left in the third. Things went from bad to worse for the Tigers early in the third quarter. After going three and out after the Texas A&M score, KC Concepcion returned the LSU punt 79 yards for a touchdown to extend the Aggies' lead to 28-18 with 8:47 left in the quarter. A holding call on the LSU kick return forced the Tigers to start their next possession at their own eight yard line. The drive stalled after one first down, forcing the Tigers to punt. Texas A&M continued to pull away, quickly driving 50 yards in only four plays. The score came on a 24 yard touchdown pass from Reed to Jamarion Morrow. 35-18, Aggies with 4:02 left in the third. The Aggies extended their lead, driving 33 yards in six plays after another big punt return. The score came on a one yard run by Nate Boerkircher. 42-18, A&M with 14:15 remaining in the contest. LSU completely melted down in a nightmare of a second half. Texas A&M just kept pouring it on, scoring another touchdown at the 6:12 mark. 49-18, Aggies. On LSU's final drive of the night, Michael Van Buren Jr. replaced a battered Garrett Nussmeier and drove the Tigers, 75 yards in 12 plays, ending with a 12 yard touchdown pass from Van Buren to Kyle Parker for the final points of the night. Final score: 49-25, Aggies. With the disappointing loss, the Tigers are now 5-3 overall and 2-3 in SEC play. Next up, LSU will have an off week before traveling to Tuscaloosa on Saturday, November 8 to play Alabama. kickoff time is still TBA. **Please be sure to go to our Da Boot Sports YouTube Channel every Monday night at 8pm CST for our live podcast, Talking Tigers with Da Boot Sports! Da Boot Sports 10/18/2025 By: Jason Watson Jr. NASHVILLE, TN - Brian Kelly and the #10 LSU Tigers were dominated by Diego Pavia and the #17 Vanderbilt Commodores all afternoon during a 31-24 loss on the road. The defeat dropped the Tigers’ record to a disappointing 5-2 (2-2) on the season. From start to finish, the LSU defense was outmatched by Heisman hopeful and dual-threat Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia. He gashed Blake Baker’s group for 160 yards and a touchdown through the air in addition to a game-leading 86 yards on the ground and two more scores by way of his feet. In an utter turn of events, it was actually the offense and Garrett Nussmeier that seemingly performed above expectations this weekend. The QB threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns on 19-28 passing. The offense as a whole combined for 100 yards on the ground. The 24 points scored by the Tigers are second only on the season to their 56-point outburst versus Southeastern Louisiana. Vanderbilt scored on five of their first six possessions throughout the contest, with the lone stop coming on a turnover on downs late in the first half. LSU finally forced the Commodores into the first punt by either team in the game with under nine minutes to play in the fourth quarter. The Tigers’ defense was finally able to force back-to-back punts late in the contest as LSU pulled to within a one-score deficit. However, the two LSU drives that followed each resulted in nothing more than a three-and-out. This was due in large part to Vanderbilt’s defense buckling down in crunch time while the offensive line was suffering from another injury. Starting left tackle Tyree Adams left the game earlier with an injury that prevented him from returning. In a game that many expected to be a sluggish defensive battle, the opposite turned out to be the case as the teams competed to have no turnovers. They exchanged scores and ultimately, Vandy just made a few more plays necessary than the Tigers did with the home crowd behind them. Next up, the LSU Tigers will return to Baton Rouge for another SEC night game. They will play host to the Texas A&M Aggies, who currently rank as a Top-5 team in the country. Da Boot Sports 10/18/2025 By: Da Boot Sports Staff BATON ROUGE, LA - The LSU's 2025 football season is about to spin out of control. This team will be lucky to finish with an 8-4 record. Could Scott Woodward talk Nick Saban out of retirement to return to Baton Rouge? In 2020, I wrote an article begging Scott Woodward to go get Kim Mulkey! People said I was crazy and it would never happen. LSU did it and LSU Women's Basketball won a national championship! Come on Scott Woodward! Work some magic and bring the Legend back to Baton Rouge. Whatever it takes! Nick Saban decided to retire in 2023 due to the changing landscape of college football with the rise of NIL and the transfer portal. Both have played a roll in shifting player motivations to focus more on money and playing time, than competition and development. In the NIL/transfer portal era, LSU constantly ranks among the top programs in the nation. Multiple sources have ranked LSU as #1 for transfer classes recently. Louisiana State University has stepped its game up by creating a strong and successful NIL infrastructure, that includes an all-in approach and aggressive spending to build top-ranked rosters. Could this impressive NIL department at LSU become a driving force to bringing the most successful coach in college football history back to the campus where his rise to power began? If Brian Kelly continues to struggle taking the Bayou Bengals to the next step and fails to qualify for the CFP and LSU decides to make a change, could Saban make his return? Nick Saban has admitted that leaving LSU for the Miami Dolphins in 2024 was, "professionally the biggest mistake I've ever made." Without a doubt, departing from LSU has been his biggest professional regret. If the right circumstances and offer would present itself, could it enhance Saban to return to coaching? His age, 73 years old and his wife could be huge deciding factors. Terry Saban shows no interest in her husband returning to coaching. Most feel like Nick Saban has nothing left to prove after achieving the highest level of success, winning seven national championships. At 73, Saban could give LSU five strong seasons and a national championship, as well as setting up his replacement from his staff. Mr. Scott Woodward, please make it happen! Bring the best ever back to Baton Rouge. Time to make up for your Brian Kelly mistake. The football program, the players and the fans deserve better. PLEASE BRING NICK SABAN BACK! I've been patient a very supportive of Brian Kelly. But enough, is enough. He has to go! It's over Johnny! LETS SEE THIS VISION AGAIN ON THE LSU SIDELINES!!! Da Boot Sports 10/11/2025 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU looked to bounce back from their disappointing loss at Ole Miss and that they did, as they returned to Tiger Stadium on Saturday night to defeat the South Carolina Gamecocks, 20-10 in front of 101,921 Tiger fans. We need to face the facts, this is not a dominating football team. They have talent and do just enough to win ugly. It's frustrating to watch, but a win is a win, no matter how ugly it looks and that's the bottom line. Keep winning. Garrett Nussmeier finished his night going 20-33 for 254 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Tigers finished with 166 yards rushing. Caden Durham leading the team with 70 yards on 15 carries. Trey'Dez Green had a fantastic game with eight catches for 119 yards and a touchdown. The defense was once again the heart beat of this team, holding the Gamecocks to ten points, while doing a great job of containing LaNorris Sellers. They forced two turnovers and collected five sacks. AJ Haulcy led the team with 11 total tackles. West Weeks has nine tackles. Harold Perkins Jr. finished with eight tackles and a sack and Whit Weeks had seven tackles and a sack. The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead on a 28 yard field goal by Damian Ramos. The score was set up when LaNorris Sellers fumbled on South Carolina's first play from scrimmage. Patrick Payton recovered the ball at the Gamecocks 17 yard line. 3-0, LSU with 11:53 left in the opening quarter. After South Carolina missed a 47 yard field goal attempt, LSU drove 71 yards in 13 plays and was facing a second and goal at the one yard line. Ju'Juan Johnson fumbled the ball away into the end zone. The Gamecocks recovered the ball for a touchback. South Carolina took full advantage of the LSU turnover as Matt Fuller busted right through the heart of the Tigers' defense and raced 72 yards for a touchdown. With 25 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Carolina now lead, 7-3. The Tigers answered, going on a six play, 57 yard drive, culminating with a six yard touchdown pass from Garrett Nussmeier to Trey'Dez Green. 10-7, LSU at the 13:01 mark of the second quarter. After the teams exchanged punts, the LSU defense registered another turnover. On third and 15 from the Gamecocks' 40, Sellers took a shot deep, but Tamarcus Cooley made a fantastic interception at the LSU 20 yard line. A frustrating first half mercifully came to an end with LSU leading, 10-7. The Gamecocks took the second half kickoff and drove into LSU territory before having to settle for a 47 yard field goal. The drive went 46 yards on 11 plays, eating 6:21 off the clock. With 8:39 left in the third, the contest was all even at 10-10. LSU responded with a four play, 75 yard drive, ending with a beautiful 43 yard touchdown pass from Nussmeier to Kyle Parker. 17-10, Tigers with 6:38 left in the third quarter. LSU blew another huge scoring opportunity late in the third quarter. After a three and out by the Gamecocks, the Tigers drove deep into Carolina territory. On second and eight at the Gamecocks' nine yard line, Garrett Nusmeier threw an interception at the one yard line. It was a poor decision that costed the LSU offense dearly. It was also the Tigers' second red zone turnover of the contest. The Tigers took possession of the ball on their own 31 yard line with 5:43 left in the contest and methodically moved the ball down the field. LSU was unable to punch it into the end zone after reaching the South Carolina one yard line and had to settle for a Damian Ramos 22 yard field goal.
