College Football Playoff Elimination at Stake, Previewing Week 11 vs. Alabama

BATON ROUGE, LA- ESPN’s College Game Day will be live from LSU’s campus as they take their national coverage to a highly anticipated SEC matchup to be played in Tiger Stadium. The #14 LSU Tigers will host the #11 Alabama Crimson Tide in a contest that is crucial to both sides with their College Football Playoff lives on the line.

Series History:
The Crimson Tide leads the all-time series history versus LSU with 56 wins as opposed to the Tigers’ 27. There have also been five ties throughout the matchups. Although dominant for the most part, Alabama and LSU have split the last two games with the home team winning each. In 2022, LSU earned a statement 32-31 victory in overtime during Brian Kelly’s first year. Nick Saban got the best of the Tigers last season with a 42-28 thrashing in Tuscaloosa.

Injury Report:
Starting offensive lineman Garrett Dellinger will miss Saturday’s game for the Tigers following his TightRope surgery performed during the team’s bye week. Coach Kelly said the hope is for Dellinger to return in time for the Florida game. Paul Mubenga will step into the starting role this weekend.
Alabama should be relatively healthy in terms of gameday contributors barring any practice injuries leading up to Saturday night.

Keys to Victory:

* Take Care of the Football
Against Texas A&M, LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier had three second-half interceptions and never seemed to be able to settle back down. LSU will live and die with their gunslinger at the helm, but watching touchdown passes to the endzone is a lot more fun than seeing the passes going in the other direction.

* Slow Down Milroe
Alabama will trot into Baton Rouge with one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation. Jalen Milroe can beat teams over the top with his powerful, precise passing. He can also utilize his legs to escape pressure and extend plays which hurt the Tigers in the second half against the Aggies. Does LSU and Blake Baker have an answer for defending the read options with mobile quarterbacks?

* Understand What’s at Stake
After the loss in College Station two weeks ago, LSU is facing elimination from any chance at making the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. With the early-season loss to the USC Trojans stinking up the resume, the Tigers have zero room for error. Not only are playoff lives at stake but any hopes of making the SEC Championship in Atlanta next month rides on Saturday’s outcome as well. A huge game between two teams with a lot to play for should be a good recipe for fireworks this weekend.

Fans can watch LSU v. Alabama live on ABC or stream from ESPN+ when the game kicks off from Tiger Stadium at 6:30 p.m. CST on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Predictions and Final Thoughts:
LSU. Alabama. Saturday Night. Death Valley. College Game Day. Playoff Chances. Tigers. Tide. What more could you say? It’s going down in Baton Rouge. The Top-15 matchup certainly has the makeup to add a historic chapter to SEC lore. Rivalry brews at an all-time high, and both teams would love nothing more than to wash away the other’s championship aspirations. I think Saturday’s game will be gritty, action-packed, hard-nosed football. The atmosphere will make things all the more better. I’m taking the Tigers, 29-27.
