LSU DEFEATS LIONS, 56-10 IN DEATH VALLEY

   BATON ROUGE, LA - The #3 ranked Tigers defeated the Lions of Southeastern, 56-10 on Saturday night in Death Valley in front of 102,219 Tiger fans on Family Night to run their record to 4-0 on the season. 

   Several backups got valuable snaps in the second half which was outstanding to see. 

   Nussmeier finished his night going, 25-31 for 273 yards and three touchdowns passes and a rushing score. Michael Van Buren Jr. had a nice outing in the second half as he finished, 10-12 for 122 yards with a passing and a rushing touchdown.

   Bauer Sharp ended was the leading receiver on the night with 73 yards on five catches and a touchdown. 

   Ju'Juan Johnson was the team's leading rusher with 43 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns.

   The offense racked up 530 total yards on the night.

   The defense had another dominate night and was led by Dashawn Spears with four total tackles. The defense was able to register four total sacks on the night and hold the Lions to 204 total offensive yards. 


   After both teams traded punts to start the contest, LSU got on the scoreboard first, driving 45 yards on 13 plays, culminating with a one yard touchdown plunge by Garrett Nussmeier. 7-0 Tigers with 5:08 left in the opening quarter.

   LSU extended the lead on their next possession, scoring on a two yard touchdown run by Ju'Juan Johnson. The scoring drive went 44 yards on seven plays. 14-0, Tigers with 13:12 left in the second quarter. 

   The Tigers scored again for the third possession in a row, driving 74 yards on seven plays, ending with a Ju'Juan Johnson beautiful ten yard touchdown run. 21-0, Bayou Bengals with 8:19 left in the first half.

   The Tigers added to their advantage, driving 57 yards in eight plays, culminating with a 17 yard touchdown pass from Nussmeier to Barion Brown. 28-0, LSU at the 2:06 mark in the second quarter.

   The Tigers continued to poor it on the Lions' defense, this time driving 56 yards in eight plays, ending with a nine yard touchdown pass from Nuss to Zavion Thomas. With only 15 seconds remaining in the first half, LSU now led, 35-0.

   Garrett Nussmeier finished the first half going, 19-25 for 190 yards with two touchdown passes and a rushing score. Ju'Juan Johnson led the team in rushing at the break 40 yards on seven carries with two rushing touchdowns. Barion Brown led the team in receiving with 42 yards on four grabs and a score. On defense, Gabriel Reliford, Jacobian Guillory and Whit Weeks had three tackles each. The defense also held the Lions to only 30 total yards in the first half.

   After forcing a quick Southeastern punt to start the second half, LSU quickly moved 87 yards in seven plays, ending the drive with a 23 yard touchdown pass from Garrett Nussmeier to Bauer Sharp. 42-0, LSU with 9:28 left in the third quarter. 

   Southeastern's offense finally showed a little life, driving 75 yards on eight plays, scoring on a 14 yard touchdown pass from Carson Camp to Deantre Jackson. 42-7, Tigers with 6:07 left in the third.

   LSU answered the Lions score, driving 81 yards on 16 plays, ending with a one yard touchdown run by quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr.  49-7, Tigers with 13:54 left in the contest.

   Van Buren led the Tigers on another scoring drive, moving the offense, 58 yards on six plays, culminating with a 27 yard touchdown pass from Van Buren to Kyle Parker. With 8:11 left in the game, LSU now lead, 56-7.

   The Lions drove 57 yards on 11 plays before settling for a 37 yard field goal to cut LSU's lead to 56-10 with only 2:16 remaining to end the scoring.

   The Tigers improve to 4-0 (1-0) with the victory. Next up, LSU will travel to Oxford, MS to take on Ole Miss on Saturday, September 27. Kickoff is set for 2:30pm CST and will be televised on ABC.
