BATON ROUGE, LA - The Tigers finished off the 2024 regular season with a convincing 37-17 win over the Oklahoma Sooners in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night.

The LSU offense rolled up 395 total yards against the Sooners with a nice balanced attack.  Garrett Nussmeier left the game with an injury, but played fantastic after returning. He finished the night going 22-31 for 277 yards with three touchdowns.
The Tigers rushed for 110 total yards on the night. Caden Durham rushed for 80 yards on 11 carries, while Josh Williams rushed 13 times for 31 yards.

Mason Taylor added 3 catches for 28 yards. CJ Daniels had 3 grabs for 24 yards. Chris Hilton Jr. finally had hid big game with 2 catches for 85 yards, both grabs went for touchdowns. Ka'Morreun Pimpton had 2 catches for 53 yards and Aaron Anderson had a catch for six yards.

The defense was dominating all night long, causing headaches for the Sooners, collecting four sacks and an interception.  Whit Weeks led the charge with 15 tackles and a sack. Davhon Keys had 10 tackles and a sack. Greg Penn III added 9 tackles. Jardin Gilbert finished with 8 tackles.

The Tigers drew first blood, scoring on a 18 yard touchdown pass from Garrett Nussmeier to a wide open Kyren Lacy. The score ended a seven play, 53 yard drive. 7-0 LSU with 7:09 left in the first quarter.

LSU committed the first turnover of the night and it was a costly one. Nussmeier was under pressure after dropping back to throw and had the ball stripped by Gracen Halton. Mason Thomas scooped up the ball and took it nine yards for a Sooners touchdown. 7-7 with 3:26 left on the clock.

On LSU's next offensive possession Garrett Nussmeier was injured while being sacked and taken to the locker room forcing backup quarterback AJ Swann into action. Thanks to a beautiful 50 yard run by Caden Durham, the Tigers were able to get on the board again with a 34 yard Damian Ramos field goal to put LSU back up, 10-7 with 8:39 left in the first half.

Oklahoma answered quickly, driving 75 yards in only three plays, with Xavier Robinson taking it in from two yards out. 14-10 Sooners with 7:22 left in the second quarter.

In a purple flash, Aaron Anderson took the Oklahoma kickoff at the goal line and raced 100 yards for a touchdown to give LSU the lead back, 17-14.

The Sooners responded with an 11 play, 49 yard drive that ended with a 44 yard field goal by Zach Schmit, to tie the game at 17-17 with 2:13 left in the first half.

Garrett Nussmeier returned to the game and lead the Tigers on a 6 play, 66 yard scoring drive. The score came on a 40 yard touchdown pass from Nussmeier to Chris Hilton Jr., who made an incredible catch in the end zone for the score. 24-17 Tigers. with 45 seconds left on the clock. The game would go to halftime with LSU up by seven.

LSU extended their lead mid-way through the third quarter, driving 88 yards on nine plays, ending with a 45 yard touchdown bomb from Garrett Nussmeier to Chris Hilton Jr. 31-17 Tigers with 6:48 left in the quarter.

LSU got their first takeaway of the night, when Ashton Stamps put big pressure on Bauer Sharpe, who was attempting a trick play. Sharpe just heaved the ball up for grabs. Sage Ryan intercepted the ball at the LSU 36 and returned it to the Tigers' 48.

The Tiger offense looked to drive another nail into the Sooners' coffin, driving 54 yards in nine plays, culminating with a 22 yard Damian Ramos field goal. 34-17 Tigers with 14:47 left in the contest.

LSU added to their lead late on a Damian Ramos 32 yard field goal. 37-17 Tigers with 3:19 left on the clock.

With the win, LSU finished the regular season 8-4 overall and 5-3 in SEC play...

Next up the Tigers will wait to find out which Bowl Game they will be invited to next Sunday....
