Baton Rouge, LA- As LSU rolls out of its first bye week of the long college football season, it now knows where it stands in comparison to the rest of the nation, and Brian Kelly’s team still has so much to play for in 2025. The Tigers enter Week 7 with a 4-1 (1-1) overall record and sit at #11 in both the Coaches and AP polls.

Last time we saw the LSU Tigers take the field, they were handed their first loss of the season in Oxford, Mississippi. Lane Kiffin, Trinidad Chambliss, and the Ole Miss Rebels proved to be too much for a struggling LSU offense to keep up with. In a pivotal SEC matchup, the 24-19 final score swung against LSU, sending them flailing into a bye
week.

Looking ahead, LSU still has to face four teams that are currently ranked within the Top-25 in the country. The Tigers will be playing through five SEC games over the course of the next six weeks, and it all begins with a date with Shane Beamer’s South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday night in Death Valley.

Obviously, the LSU Tigers have been like night and day when it comes to offense versus defense. Blake Baker’s defense has looked completely revamped and is attacking the football at every opportunity. The defense has only allowed more than ten points to be scored in a single game once, and that occurred in Oxford.

Offensively, Garrett Nussmeier and LSU have looked dismal at times. They’ve not been able to extend drives, have not been able to capitalize in short-field situations, rank near the bottom of the conference in points per game, and cannot run the football to save a life.

There have been serious concerns and questions about whether Nussmeier is healthy due to a torso injury. It is not clear how severe that injury may be or how limiting it is on the quarterback’s play. As of now, there has been no indication that Garrett will be benched at any point, but something may have to give if LSU cannot establish its rhythm on the offensive side of the football.

Luckily for the Tigers, the college football season is always full of parity. Many top teams have suffered multiple losses or were recently dealt a worse loss than LSU’s against Ole Miss. There is a lot of football left to be played in the back half of the 2025 regular season, but with as wide open as the CFB Playoff is this year, Coach Kelly and the Bayou Bengals can ill-afford to falter much more. Geaux Tigers!
