Da Boot Sports 1/8/2026 By: Da Boot Sports Staff Lane Kiffin and the LSU staff have been busy rebuilding the football roster. Here is an updated list of our new LSU Tigers. So far the Tigers have signed:: Former Pittsburgh tight end - Malachai Thomas: 6-4, 240 lbs: Thomas was a highly touted tight end coming out of high school. In his two years at Pitt he caught 15 passes for 214 yards with three touchdowns. He brings much needed depth at the position for the Tigers. Former Utah running back - Raycine Guillory: 5-9, 190 lbs: Guillory had a solid high school career. He saw very limited action at Utah. He adds quality to the LSU running back stable. Former Hawaii wide receiver - Jackson Harris: 6-3, 205 lbs: Harris brings the big play threat to the Tigers offense. In 2025 he earned first team All-Mountain West honors, leading the MWC with 12 touchdowns and yards per reception, (19.65). He was ranked second in receiving yards, (963) and receiving yards per game, (87.5). Former Old Dominion wide receiver - Tre Brown III: 6-2, 180 lbs: Brown had 38 catches for 762 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2025. He was the 23 ranked WR transfer portal by 247sports. Former Florida Punter - Hayden Craig: 6-1, 208 lbs: Craig didn't see any playing time in Gainesville. Coming out of high school, he was the 6th ranked punter in the nation. A much needed position for the Tigers. Former Charlotte running back - Rod Gainey Jr.: 6-0, 185 lbs: Gainey rushed for 264 yards on 74 carries and one touchdown in 2025. He will add quality depth at running back. Former Clemson defensive lineman - Stephiylan Green: 6-4, 290 lbs: In 2025 Green started six games at Clemson. In his three years at Clemson, he recorded 34 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Former Boise State Safety - Ty Benefield: 6-2, 205 lbs: Benefield was one of the top safeties and defensive players in the portal. He should step in and contribute immediately in the secondary. Former Florida wide receiver Eugene Wilson III: 5-10, 194 lbs: In his career at Florida, Wilson had 107 catches for 1,043 yards and ten touchdowns. Wilson possesses 4.43 speed in the 40-yard dash. He has the potential to be an explosive weapon for the Tigers. Former Kansas State wide receiver - Jayce Brown: 6-0, 179 lbs: In his three seasons at Kansas State, brown has totaled 115 catches for 1,972 yards and 13 touchdowns. Another quality weapon for LSU's next signal caller. Former Arkansas kicker - Scott Starzyk: 5-10, 171 lbs: In 2025 he made 14 of 18 field goal attempts and all 47 of his extra points. He should step right in to replace the departed Damian Ramos. Former South Carolina edge rusher - Jaylen Brown: 6-5, 265 lbs: Brown didn't play in 2025 due to injury. He should be an impact player the Tigers in 2026. Lane Kiffin has brought in some solid talent through the portal, but has yet to address LSU's biggest needs, which is quarterback and offensive line. The portal period ends on January 16, plenty of time to get more work done. More updates to come. GEAUX TIGERS! *John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life. Da Boot Sports 12/27/2025 By: Terrill J. Weil HOUSTON, TX - LSU returned to the Texas Bowl for the second season in a row, but unfortunately fell to the #21 Houston Cougars, 38-35 in a hard fought, competitive battle at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on Saturday night. The Tigers played without several key defensive starters who decided to opt out of the contest, leaving LSU without enough bite to shut down a balanced Houston offensive attack. Blake Baker’s defense simply couldn’t put pressure on Conner Weigman who had all day to throw throughout the game. Penalties also hurt LSU, as they committed nine total for 95 yards. Several personal fouls penalties aided Houston on a couple of scoring drives. Michael Van Buren went 17-27 for 267 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for 24 yards. Harlem Berry led the Tigers with 45 yards on only three carries. Trey’Dez Green was the team’s leading receiver with 80 yards on four catches and two touchdown grabs. Tamarcus Cooley and DJ Pickett both led the team with seven tackles each. Houston won the toss and deferred. Barion Brown took the opening kickoff and electrified the LSU faithful as he raced 99 yards for a touchdown to put the Tigers ahead quickly. 7-0 LSU with 14:46 left in the first quarter. The LSU defense got the ball back quickly and the LSU offense took advantage, driving 60 yards in four plays, culminating with a 23 yard touchdown pass from Michael Van Buren to Trey’Dez Green. 14-0, Tigers with 10:48 left in the opening quarter. The big play of the drive was a 36 yard run by Harlem Berry. Houston answered with a 75 yard, nine play touchdown drive. On 3rd and goal from the eight, Conner Weigman hit Amare Thomas in the flat who took it into the end zone for the score. 14-7, LSU with 6:08 left in the quarter. Barion Brown had another electrifying kickoff return, bringing the ball out to the LSU 48 yard line. The Tigers moved 25 yards in four plays before Damian Ramos missed a 44 yard field goal attempt at the 3:04 mark. Houston then drove 73 yards in 14 plays to tie the game on a four yard touchdown pass from Weigman to Amare Thomas. 14-14 with 11:05 left in the first half. The Cougars would take a 21-14 lead into the locker room at halftime, thanks to a seven yard touchdown pass from Weigman to Tanner Koziol with four seconds left to end an 11 play, 90 yard drive. LSU drew first blood in the second half, driving 73 yards in six plays to tie the game, 21-21 on a four yard touchdown pass from Van Burn to Trey’Dez Green with 9:31 left in the third quarter. Houston answered the Tigers on their next possession, driving 75 yards on eight plays, culminating on a two yard touchdown pass from Weigman to Travelle Frederick. 28-21, Cougars with 4:42 left in the third. LSU fought back to tie the game, driving 72 yards in five plays, as Van Buren found a wide open Kyle Parker in the end zone to even things up at 28-28 at the 14:54 mark of the fourth quarter. Houston responded with a 12 play, 72 yard drive, settling for a 25 yard field goal by Ethan Sanchez to retake the lead, 31-28 with 7:42 left in the contest. The Cougars drove a huge nail into LSU’s coffin, driving 81 yards on eight plays. Dean Conners scored on a 20 yard run, putting Houston up, 38-28 with only 2:22 remaining. LSU refused to quit, quickly driving 63 yards in eight plays. Zavion Thomas punched it in from three yards out for the score. 38-35, Cougars at the 1:15 mark. The onside kick failed, allowing Houston to escape with the victory. The Tigers finish the 2025 season with a 7-6 record. Now a long, very important offseason will begin, starting with the Transfer Portal opening on January 2. Lane Kiffin has a lot of work to do, but no doubt he will turn things around quickly….. Da Boot Sports 11/29/2025 By: Terrill J. Weil NORMAN, OK - LSU traveled to Oklahoma for the first time ever to take on the 8th ranked Sooners in the 2025 regular season finale and unfortunately fell in a close, competitive game, 17-13. Once again, LSU's offense was lifeless through most of the day, sputtering badly against a very good Oklahoma defense. The Tiger defense played a fantastic game, except for two huge break downs in the secondary that allowed Oklahoma to score two touchdowns. The Tigers managed only 198 yards of total offense while giving up 393 to the Sooners. Michael Van Buren, who struggled most of the day, finished 14-25 for 96 yards with a touchdown and a very costly interception. Caden Durham led the team in rushing with 42 yards on six carries. Zavion Thomas was LSU's leading receiver with three catches for 30 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Davhon Keys led the way with 8 tackles. AJ Haulcy, Harold Perkins and DJ Pickett each had an interception. On Oklahoma's first offensive possession of the game, while facing third and six at their own 46, John Mateer was intercepted by Harold Perkins Jr. who returned the ball to the Sooners' four yard line. LSU however, failed to capitalize on the turnover. On the very next play, first and goal from the four, Michael Van Buren was intercepted in the end zone by Peyton Bowen, killing the LSU scoring threat. The Sooners drew first blood, driving 53 yards in 11 plays before having to settle for a Tate Sandell 38 yard field goal. With 4:31 left in the first quarter, Oklahoma led, 3-0. After both teams exchanged punts, Oklahoma made their biggest offensive plays of the game. Damian Ramos hit a 43 yard field goal to put LSU back in the lead, 13-10 with 7:56 remaining in the contest. Oklahoma made another explosive play, taking advantage of a huge break down in the LSU secondary. On first and ten at the Sooners' 42, Mateer found a very very wide open Isaiah Sategna for a 58 yard touchdown to give Oklahoma a 17-13 lead with only 4:16 remaining. LSU's Barion Brown returned the kickoff 47 yards to mid-field to start the Tigers final drive of the game. LSU drove to the Sooners' 32 yard line but ended up turning the ball over on downs. The Tiger defense held Western Kentucky to only three points and a total of 152 yards on the night. Only 57 total yards in the second half. LSU, sputtered on offense all night long, finishing with 328 total yards of offense. 126 on the ground and 202 passing. They were simply out of sync all night. On the next Western Kentucky offensive possession, PJ Woodland intercepted another Rodney Tisdale pass at the LSU 45 yard line.
