Da Boot Sports 1/31/2026 By: Terrill J. Weil COLUMBIA, SC - LSU snapped their three game losing streak, defeating the Gamecocks in overtime, 92-87 on Saturday afternoon. With South Carolina leading late, LSU battled back to force overtime. Playing without DJ Thomas Jr. who re-injured his foot against Mississippi State, the Tigers stepped up and made the plays in the extra period to register their first road win of the season. A much needed win for LSU. LSU shot 52% from the field on the day. They sank 9-22 from three point land for 41%. A great job at the free throw line helped clinch the victory as the Tigers hit 21-25 for 84%. Rebounds were close with the Bayou Bengals on top, 35-34. Nwoko led the team with 21 points. King scored 18 points. Sutton added 16. Mackinnon contributed 15 points. Carter scored 8. Miller had 6 points. Tamba finished with 5 and Reece had 3 points. The Tigers started fast, shooting the ball well, grabbing the early lead. At the 15:15 media timeout, LSU led 10-8. LSU continued to play good basketball, going on an 8-3 run over the next three minutes to extend their advantage to 18-11 at the 11:56 official's timeout. The Bayou Bengals were putting together perhaps their best half of the season, shooting 60% from the field and out-scoring the Cocks, 10-4 over the next four minutes to lead 28-15 at the 7:58 mark. South Carolina showed a spark, going on a 10-0 run, cutting LSU's lead to three, 28-25 at the 3:43 media timeout. With the Tigers going cold, the Gamecocks kept it close. Meechie Johnson hit a jumper at the buzzer to cut the LSU lead to one, 36-35 at halftime. LSU shot 54% from the field in the first half. They sank 4-8 from behind the arc. At the charity stripe they hit 4-5 for 80%. The Tigers led in rebounds, 18-16. But it was turnovers that was the difference. LSU committed eight costly ones in the first 20 minutes while South Carolina only had two. Sutton led the team at the break with 9 points. Nwoko scored 7. King added 6 points. Miller finished with 6. Reece had 3 points. Mackinnon and Tamba both scored 2 points each. It remained a tight contest early in the second half, with both teams trading the lead. At the 11:06 official's timeout, LSU led 60-59. The Gamecocks seized the momentum and the lead, 70-67 with 6:40 remaining in the contest. LSU continued to fight back, pulling to within one, 73-72 at the 3:50 mark. With the game even at 78-78, Rashad King missed a jumper for LSU with 5 seconds remaining. The Gamecocks got the rebound then missed a half court attempt, sending the contest into overtime. The Tigers were able to sink all of their free throw attempts midway through the extra period allowing them to take an 83-80 lead with 3:31 remaining. With 39 seconds remaining, LSU held an 86-85 lead and possession of the ball. Max Mackinnon hit a huge three pointer with 20 seconds remaining, giving the Tigers an 89-85 advantage. Carolina sank two free throws, cutting the lead to two, 89-87. Then with 7 seconds left, Rashad King made one of two from the charity stripe to increase the advantage to 90-87. LSU quickly fouled, putting the Cocks at the line with 5 seconds on the clock. Meechie Johnson missed both free throws. Marquel Sutton was able to drive the final nail into the coffin on a monster dunk with three seconds remaining. 92-87 Victory for LSU! With the win, LSU improves to 14-8 overall and 2-7 in the SEC. Da Boot Sports 1/28/2026 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Tigers struggled all nIght long as Mississippi State came into the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and dominated LSU, 80-66. It was an ugly, disappointing night for LSU basketball. The Tigers shot 43% from the field for the game. They hit 4-20 from behind the three point arc for 20%. At the charity stripe they sank, 12-23 for 52%. State out-rebounded LSU, 43-24. Mackinnon led the team with 15 points. Thomas and King both scored 14 points each. Tamba added 10. Miller, Sutton and Nwoko all finished with 4 points each. Reece scored 1 point. Mississippi State started fast, racing out to a 9-2 lead at the 17:28 mark. The Bulldogs continued to pour it on, going on an 8-3 run to increase their lead to 17-5. Matt McMahon had seen enough and called a timeout with 14:46 left on the clock. State remained on fire, out-scoring LSU, 10-4 over the next three minutes. The Tigers found themselves down, 27-9 at the 11:35 mark for another LSU timeout. At the 8:00 media timeout, the Bulldogs led, 30-12. Mississippi State was simply out-playing LSU on both ends of the court. LSU had no answer against the red hot Bulldogs, as Mississippi State continued to dominate the contest. With 3:32 remaining in the first half, State led, 44-17. It was a very embarrassing first half performance by LSU, as Mississippi State led, 44-21 at halftime. LSU only shot 32% from the field in the first half. They hit 1-10 from behind the arc. At the free throw line they sank, 2-8 for 25%. State out-rebounded the Bayou Bengals, 26-14. Thomas led the team at the break with 7 points. Nwoko scored 4. King and Tamba both added 3 points each. Miller and Mackinnon had 2 points each. The Tigers started the second half with a little more energy, out-scoring State 11-6, cutting the led to 50-32 at the 16:08 mark. State heated back up again, increasing their advantage to 68-44 with 11:13 remaining. LSU was unable chip into Mississippi State's commanding lead. The Bulldogs led, 78-61 with 5:09 left in the contest. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 13-8 overall and 1-7 in SEC play. Weil FAYETTEVILLE, AR - LSU played hard through out the game, but simply didn't have enough offensive fire power as they lose to Arkansas, 85-81 on Saturday afternoon. Over the final seven minutes of the contest, the Hogs got hot from behind the arc, sinking big three pointers to help them take the victory. LSU finished the day shooting 46% from the field. They hit 3-15 from three point land for 20%. At the charity stripe the Tigers sank 22-25 for 88%. LSU out-rebounded the Hogs, 36-28. Arkansas committed eight total turnovers while LSU had nine. Thomas led the Tigers with 18 points. Mckinnon and Nwoko both had 14 points each. Tamba scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds to register a double-double. Sutton added 11. Reece, King and Miller all scored 4 points each. The Tigers hit their first two shots to quickly go up 4-0. At the 16:53 mark, LSU led 6-5. Both teams continued to trade baskets. Arkansas held a 9-8 lead at the 16:11 media timeout. The game pace was fast and furious as both teams pushed the ball quickly up and down the floor. Over the next four minutes, LSU out-scored the Hogs, 10-6 to lead, 18-15 at the 12:21 official's timeout. Both teams were shooting well, LSU at 53% while Arkansas shot at 70% from the field. Arkansas quickly went on a 5-0 run to take the lead, 20-18, forcing Matt McMahon to call a timeout with 10:55 remaining in the first half. The Bayou Bengals regained the momentum, out-scoring the Razorbacks, 6-3 to take a one point lead, 24-23 at the 7:52 mark. LSU continued to shoot well, going on an 8-5 run over the next four minutes to lead, 32-28 with 3:47 left in the half. The Tigers led at halftime, 37-33. LSU hit 15-32 from the field in the first half for 47%. They were 0-8 from behind the arc. At the free throw line they sank 7-8 for 88%. The Tigers out-rebounded the Hogs over the first 20 minutes, 21-14. Mackinnon led the team at the break with 8 points. Tamba scored 7. Nwoko added 6. Thomas and King scored 4 points each. Miller and Sutton finished with 2 points each. In the second half, both teams continued to exchange blows, shooting well and playing with high intensity and physical play. The Tigers were able to maintain their lead, up 48-43 at the 15:29 official's timeout. LSU would begin to mis-fire, allowing Arkansas to go on a 7-2 run to tie the contest, 50-50 at the 12:56 mark. The Hogs would out-score LSU, 14-11 over the next three minutes to take a 64-61 advantage for the 13th lead change of the contest with 8:12 remaining. With 2:50 remaining in the game, Arkansas led, 79-75. LSU continued to battle, keeping the contest close, pulling to within two, 81-79 with 57 seconds remaining. Arkansas simply made too many big three pointers down the stretch to stay ahead for the win. The Bayou Bengals fall to 13-7 overall and 1-6 in the SEC. DJ Thomas Jr. returned for the Tigers, but was rusty. LSU simply didn't have enough offense to challenge the 16th ranked Gators. The Tigers were inconsistent all evening against a very good Florida team. LSU shot 43% from the field on the night. They hit 3-11 from behind the arc for 27%. They sank 10-15 from the charity stripe. Florida dominated on the boards, out-rebounding LSU, 50-30. Nwoko led the team with 17 points. Mackinnon and Sutton both had 10 points each. King and Miller finished with 8 points each. Tamba had 4. Reece and Thomas added 2 points each, The contest began with both teams pushing that ball up and down to court quickly. At the 15:37 media timeout, the game was even at 7-7. Over the next five minutes, Florida out-scored the Tigers, 10-5 to take a 17-12 lead. Both teams would fall into a scoring drought, going minutes without scoring. With 3:49 left in the first half, the Gators led, 23-18. Florida would go on an 11-5 run to extend their lead to 34-23 with only 40 seconds remaining in the half. Thomas Haugh hit a three pointer at the buzzer to give the Gators a 38-26 halftime lead. Both teams shot 40% from the field in the first half. The Tigers hit 3-5 three pointers for 60%. At the free throw line, they sank 3-6. Florida out-rebounded LSU over the first 20 minutes, 23-15. The Tigers had seven first half turnovers while Florida only committed two. Nwoko led the team at the break with 8 points. King scred 6 points. Mackinnon added 5. Miller contributed 4. Sutton had 2 points and Tamba scored 1 point. Over the first four and a half minutes of the second half, both teams played even at 6-6. With 15:33 left on the clock, Florida led, 44-32. LSU struggled to gain ground on the Gators. At the 11:38 media timeout, Florida led by twelve, 52-40, as turnovers continued to hurt the Tigers. Florida quickly ran off seven straight to increase their advantage to 59-40 at the 10:26 mark. After trailing by as much as 24 points, the Tigers would go on a quick 9-5 run to cut the lead to 74-55 with 3:16 remaining.. With the loss the Tigers fall to 13-6 overall and 1-5 in the SEC. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU hosted Missouri hoping to pick up their first SEC victory of the season and that they did, defeating a good Missouri team, 78-70 on Saturday afternoon in front of 7,816 fans in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Tigers shot 42% from the field on the day. They hit 10-26 from behind the three point arc for 38%. They sank 18-23 from the free throw line. LSU out-rebounded Mizzou, 35-30. The Tigers committed seven turnovers while Missouri had 12. Sutton led the team with 26 points. Mackinnon scored 20. Tamba added 8 points. Reece and King both scored 7 points each. Nwoko contributed 6. and Miller finished with 4 points. The Tigers opened the contest playing tenacious defense, keeping Missouri scoreless over the first four and a half minutes. At the 15:34 media timeout, LSU led 8-0. The visiting Tigers finally settled down and began to put the ball in the basket. Over the next four minutes, Mizzou out-scored LSU, 7-3 to cut the Tigers' lead to 11-7 at the 11:36 mark. LSU would then go on an 8-2 run to extend their lead to 19-9 at the 7:46 media timeout. The Tigers continued to play suffocating defense, limiting Missouri's offensive attack. At the 3:42 mark, LSU led by eleven, 29-18. Over the last 3:42 of the first half, both teams basically traded scores as LSU took a 37-27 advantage into the locker room at halftime. LSU shot 11-25 from the field for 44% in the first half. They hit 5-13 from behind the arc for 38%. At the charity stripe they sank 10-12 for 83%. Rebounding was very close with Mizzou leading 16-15. At the 14:52 media timeout, the Tigers led 48-38. Over the next three minutes, Missouri cut the LSU lead in half. With 11:54 remaining, the Tigers led, 50-45. LSU responded with a 10-7 run to extend their lead to eight, 60-52 as Missouri called a timeout with 7:43 left on the clock. Missouri refused to go away, keeping the contest close as LSU was unable to pull away. With 3:25 remaining, the Tigers led, 69-61. With 53 seconds left, Missouri cut the LSU lead to four, 74-70. Tamba sank two free throws at the 23 second mark to give LSU a little breathing room. 76-70, Tigers. Sutton added two more free throws to extend the advantage to eight, 78-70 with 12 seconds remaining. The Tigers improve to 13-5 overall and 1-4 in SEC play. Da Boot Sports 1/14/2026 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - Kentucky trailed LSU by as much as 18 points in the second half, but battled back to win the contest, 75-74 on a shot at the buzzer. This was a devastating loss for the Tigers when it looked like they were going to clinch their first conference win of the season. Max Mackinnon sank two free throws with 17 seconds remaining to put LSU up, 74-72. Kentucky's Otega Oweh was sent to the free throw line with four ticks left. Oweh hit the first but missed the second and LSU secured the rebound. Pablo Tamba was sent to the charity stripe and missed both free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining. Kentucky successfully made the long pass up the court, Malachi Mareno caught the ball at the free throw line and hit his shot at the buzzer to give the Wildcats the 75-74 come from behind victory. LSU shot 49% from the field for the game. They were 9-19 from three point land for 47%. The Tigers picked a bad night to have an off night at the free throw line, sinking 19-28 for 68%. Sutton and Mackinnon both had 16 points each to lead the team. King finished with 12. Reece scored 11 points. Tamba added 10. Miller scored 6 points and Nwoko finished with 3 points. Marquel Sutton got the scoring going, hitting a three pointer at the 18:02 mark to put LSU up 3-0. One minute later, Sutton drained another three, extending the Tigers lead to 6-0. At the 14:48 media timeout, LSU led, 6-3 as both teams were sluggish offensively. Over the next three minutes, LSU would go on a 10-0 run to increase their advantage to, 16-3, forcing Kentucky to call a timeout with 12:15 remaining in the first half. The Bayou Bengals held a 21-11 lead at the 7:39 official's timeout. LSU would out-score the Wildcats, 8-5 over the next three and a half minutes to take a 29-16 lead with 3:06 left in the half. At the free throw line, the Tigers sank 9-14 for 64%. LSU out-rebounded Kentucky in the first half, 22-16. The Wildcats committed five first half turnovers while LSU had six. Kentucky began the second half out-scoring the Tigers, 9-4 to cut the LSU lead to eleven, 42-31, causing Matt McMahon to call a timeout at the 17:28 mark. At the 11:27 media timeout, LSU led, 52-43. Kentucky continued to slowly chip away at the LSU lead, cutting it to seven, 61-54 at the 7:57 mark. The Wildcats kept the pressure on LSU, cutting the lead to one, 65-64 with 5:04 remaining in the contest. Over the last three minutes, Kentucky had out-scored the Tigers, 10-4. Weil NASHVILLE, TN - The Tigers went into Nashville looking to snap their two game skid against #11 Vanderbilt, but the Commodores wouldn't allow it, defeating the Bayou Bengals, 84-73. LSU, still without start point guard Dedan Thomas Jr. shot 46% from the field on the day. They sank 7-20 from behind the three point arc for 35%. At the free throw line, LSU hit 12-17 for 71%. Vanderbilt out-rebounded the Tigers, 36-35. LSU committed 14 costly turnovers while Vandy only had seven. Mackinnon led the team with 27 points. Sutton finished with 13. Miller added 9 points. Nwoko, Reece and Tamba all had 6 points each. Moselly and King scored 3 points each. Vanderbilt took the lead early and controlled the contest though out the first half of play, thanks to strong three point shooting. At the 8:09 mark, a dunk by Jalen Washington put Vandy up by twenty, 37-17. The Tigers refused to fold, fighting back to trim the Commodores lead to 14 at the half, 52-38. At the break Max Mackinnon led the team with 14 points. LSU continued to fight in the second half, going on a couple of nice runs to eventually cut the Vanderbilt advantage to single digits, 58-50 at the 14:11 mark. The Tigers cut the lead to seven, 64-57 at the 9:39 mark, before Vanderbilt would go on a 6-2 run to increased their lead to eleven, 70-59 with 8:05 remaining. With only 3:52 remaining in the contest, LSU trailed, 77-67. LSU cut it to 80-71 with 46 seconds left on the clock. The Tigers just didn't have enough to overcome a very good Vanderbilt team. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU returned home and were unfortunately unable to rebound from their loss in College Station, as they fell to South Carolina, 78-68 in front of 6,303 Tiger fans. LSU trailed by as much as 28 points in the first half and faced a 25 point deficit at the half. The Tigers did a great job of fighting back to get as close as six late in the contest, but ran out of gas. The Bayou Bengals only shot 39% from the field for the game. They hit 8-25 from three point land for 32%. They sank 12-14 from the free throw line for 86%. LSU out-rebounded the Gamecocks, 42-30. South Carolina committed six total turnovers while LSU had 14. Mackinnon led the Tigers with 15 points. Carter and Tamba scored 10 points each. Miller added 9. Mosley, Nwoko and Sutton contributed 6 points each. King finished with 4 points and Reese had 2 points. The Tigers started slow, missing their first six shots of the game, allowing South Carolina to go on a 10-0 run. An angry Matt McMahon called a timeout at the 16:58 mark. The Gamecocks continued to pour it on the ice cold Bayou Bengals, outscoring the home team, 11-5 over the next two minutes. At the 14:42 official's timeout, South Carolina now led, 21-5. The Gamecocks had yet to miss a shot. hitting 8-8 from the floor and 5-5 from behind the three point arc, while LSU was a dismal, 2-12 from the field. At the 11:44 media timeout, South Carolina held an 18 point advantage, 28-10. LSU remained lifeless on offense with sloppy ball handling and poor shooting, while the Gamecocks remained on fire, extending their lead to 35-10 with 8:48 left in the first half. Stunned LSU fans watched quietly as the rout continued. With 3:54 left in the half, LSU trailed, 43-15. Without a doubt, it was the worse half of basketball that LSU has played all season. The Gamecocks took a 50-25 lead into the locker room at the half. South Carolina shot 52% from the field and hit 10-13 three point attempts over the first 20 minutes. LSU finally showed signs of life to begin the second half, going on a 10-2 run, trimming the Carolina lead to, 52-35, forcing a timeout by the Gamecocks at the 17:34 mark. The Tigers electrified the crowd by going on a 11-1 run to cut the lead to ten, 58-48 with 12:02 remaining in the contest. LSU refused to quit, battling back to cut the South Carolina advantage to nine, 64-55 at the 7:23 mark. With 3:56 remaining, South Carolina led, 70-62. Simply not enough in the tank to complete the comeback. This was a very tough and disappointing loss at home for the Tigers. The Tigers played well enough to win, but simply couldn't hit the big shot when needed late. LSU played without star point guard Dedan Thomas Jr. due to a lower leg injury. It was an exciting basketball game with six ties and five lead changes. LSU shot 46% from the floor on the day. They hit 6-19 from behind the arc for 32%. At the free throw line, the Tigers sank 16-20 for 80%. The Aggies out-rebounded LSU, 38-30. The Tigers committed 16 total turnovers while A&M had 15. Nwoko led the team with 21 points. Mackinnon finished with 20. King added 10 points. Miller scored 8. Tamba had 6 points. Reece scored 4 and Sutton added 3 points. Both teams started slow with shaky shooting from the field, but it was the Aggies who settled down first to take a 14-8 advantage at the 14:26 official's timeout. Over the next four minutes LSU continued to take poor shots allowing Texas A&M to maintain a 22-15 lead at the 10:18 mark. The smaller and quicker Aggies were out-playing the Tigers, but the Bayou Bengals were able to battle hard to keep the contest close. With 4:06 remaining in the first half, Texas A&M held a 29-25 lead. LSU was able to retake the lead for the first time since six seconds into the game when they led, 2-0, thanks to a 7-2 run. With 1:28 remaining in the half, LSU led, 32-31. Texas A&M's Ruben Dominguez sank a three pointer at the buzzer to help the Aggies take a 37-34 lead at halftime. The Aggies would go on a 10-6 run to open the second half, forcing Matt McMahon to call a timeout. At the 15:20 mark, A&M led, 47-40. At the 11:34 mark, the Aggies held a 52-44 advantage. Over the next four minutes, the Tigers would go on a 16-10 run, cutting the Texas A&M to two, 62-60 with 6:55 remaining. LSU led, 64-63 at the 3:17 mark in a very competitive and well played SEC basketball game. The Tigers played hard, but simply came up short on the road, missing a three point attempt at the buzzer to force overtime. With the loss, LSU drops to 12-2 overall and 0-1 in SEC play.
