Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU returned home to the Pete Maravich Assembly to host the Northwestern State Demons on Friday night and came away with a 77-53 win after a slow start. After struggling in the first half, the Tigers shifted it into another gear over the last 20 minutes of the contest to pull away. LSU finished the night shooting 26-58 from the floor for 45%. They hit 10-27 from behind the arc for 37%. The Tigers shot well from the charity stripe, sinking 15-18 for 83%. Jordan Sears led the Tigers with 18 points. Cam Carter finished with 15 points. Jalen Reed and Vyctorius Miller added 11 points each. Corey Chest contributed 9 points on the night while Dji Bailey and Curtis Givens III scored 5 points each. Robert Miller III added 3 points. “Hope everybody had a happy Thanksgiving. Great credit to (Northwestern State Head) Coach (Rick) Cabrera and Northwestern State in the first half. I thought they had a really good plan. Their mixing of defenses; even in possessions they change coverages and that really bothered us and had us on our heels." said Matt McMahon. "I thought our defense was good enough in the first half minus some second shot opportunities. But was really pleased with our guys coming out of the break. Really turned up the pressure defensively and enabled us to get out in transition and make some big time plays there. I thought much better job attacking the zone, the matchup and then when they would switch to man in the middle of the possession. Thought the ball moved a lot better in the second half and we’re thankful to get the win. Got a great opportunity coming up on Tuesday against a really good Florida State team here in the PMAC. I want to have a great atmosphere at 8 o’clock on Tuesday night.” Both teams struggled to score early as the game was even at 3-3 at the 15:50 mark. The sloppy play continued over the next four minutes, as NSU held a 10-9 lead at the official's timeout with 11:45 in the first half. Over the next eight minutes, the Demons outscored LSU, 14-13 to hold 24-22 lead with 3:49 on the clock. LSU would go into the locker room at the half trailing, 26-25. The Tigers shot poorly in the first half, only hitting 9-26 from the floor for 35%. LSU only hit 3-13 from the three point arc for 23%. They sank 4-6 from the free throw line for 67%. LSU committed 9 first half turnovers while forcing 12. The Demons out-rebounded the Tigers, 22-15 over the first 20 minutes. Jordan Sears and Jalen Reed both led the Tigers with 9 points each. Corey Chest scored three points. Dji Bailey and Vyctorius Miller added two points each. The Tigers started the second half with a 5-0 run, retaking the lead, 30-26, forcing Northwestern to call a timeout. LSU began to pull away from the Demons, going on a 17-5 run to take a 47-31 lead with 11:57 left in the contest. The Tigers out side shooting heated up as the Bayou Bengals continued to extend their lead. With 3:33 left, LSU held a 70-48 advantage. LSU simply coasted over the final three minutes to earn the 77-53 victory. With the win the Tigers are now, 6-1 on the season. Next up LSU will host Florida State on Tuesday, December 3.  Photo By: LSUsports.net Da Boot Sports 11/24/2024 LSU Sports Communications By: LSU Staff WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, West Virginia – The LSU Tigers, down 38-18, 18 minutes into the contest, rallied to force overtime and in their first triple overtime game since 2013, and outscored UCF, 16-9, in the final five minutes to win 109-102 in the third-place game of the Greenbrier Tipoff at Colonial Hall at The Greenbrier Sunday evening. The Tigers went 1-1 on the weekend and are now 5-1 on the year, coming home to play Northwestern State on Friday night at the Maravich Center. UCF fell to 4-2. LSU was struggling to find any shooting touch both inside and outside in the first 18 minutes, missing 10 layups and only shooting 25 percent from the field. The Tigers bolted out to a 7-0 lead, but were outscored over the next 16 minutes, 38-11, to find themselves in the 20-point hole. LSU did cut the lead to 15, 40-25, at the intermission. UCF got the lead back to 18, 52-34, with 12:57 to play. Slowly, the Tigers, behind the play of Jalen Reed and Jordan Sears, started to work LSU back into the game. LSU trailed by 14 with 8:31 to play before Sears hit three consecutive three-pointers that would cut the UCF lead to 64-59 with six minutes to play. UCF busted it back out to eight points, 68-60, with 4:49 to go before Reed got back-to-back layups to make it 68-64 with 2:54 to play. UCF scored its final points of regulation on a layup with 2:27 left that made it 70-64. Corey Chest got a dunk to cut the margin to 70-66 and after an empty UCF possession, Cam Carter’s jumper made it 70-68 with 1:09 to play. UCF missed a three-pointer and got the offensive rebound, but turned it over. Carter was fouled with 22 seconds to play and made both free throws to tie the game at 70-70, and the Knights missed a shot at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime. In the first overtime, LSU led by as much as four points twice before Keyshawn Hall made two free throws with six seconds left to tie the game at 82-82 and force a second five-minute period. The teams traded three-pointers twice in the second overtime before Sears got a driving layup and drew a foul that resulted in a three-point play to give LSU a 91-88 lead with 1:50 to play in the second overtime. The Knights would tie it with less than a minute left before LSU’s Dji Bailey’s layup gave LSU a 93-91 advantage with 35 seconds left. Hall got the tying bucket again with a layup with 21 seconds to play, and the teams were headed to triple overtime. It would be the second triple overtime of the year in Division I basketball and the first for LSU since the Tigers defeated Alabama 97-94 in three overtimes in 2013 in Baton Rouge. LSU never trailed in what would be the final five minutes after Carter scored on a second-chance field goal 1:08 into the period. LSU twice led by five in the first four minutes of the overtime and continued to hold UCF at bay to pull off the comeback victory. Sears, who had six three-pointers, finished with 25 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Reed had a double-double of 21 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists, with Cam Carter getting 20 points. Vyctorius Miller had 20 points off the bench, and Dji Bailey had 14 points and six assists. Darius Johnson led UCF with 25 points, Hall had 21, Jordan Ivy-Curry, who got hot in overtime, had 20 points. Rokas Jocius added 10. LSU outrebounded UCF, 50-42, and had 50 points in the paint. The Tigers, after shooting 25 percent in the first half, shot 50 percent in the second half and 57.7 percent in overtime. For the game, LSU was 38-of-88 for 43.2 percent, and LSU made 12-of-36 three-pointers. UCF shot 40.7 percent (37-of-91) with 10 three-pointers. The Knights shot 34 percent in the 15 overtime minutes.  Photo By: LSUsports.net Da Boot Sports 11/21/2024 LSU Sports Communications By: LSU Staff WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, West Virginia – Pittsburgh used a 13-0 run out of the dressing room to start the second half of play and went on to score a 74-63 victory over the LSU Tigers Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Greenbrier Tipoff Classic at Colonial Hall at The Greenbrier.The Tigers (4-1) will play UCF, a loser to Wisconsin, on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT. In a grinder of a first half in which neither team really was able to get a lot of offensive flow in the first 16 minutes, the Tigers rallied from five down in the final 3:21 to take the lead. Trailing 25-20, Derek Fountain hit a three-pointer to cut the margin to two and then after a Pittsburgh miss, Vyctorius Miller hit a jumper to tie the game at 25-25 with 1:38 to play. Pittsburgh retook the lead 20 seconds later before Jalen Reed hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 27-27 with 43 seconds to play. That looked to be how the first half would end, but a Pittsburgh player got a technical foul with seven seconds left and Cam Carter made one free throw to give the Tigers a 28-27 advantage. “It was a grind it out, nasty game,” said LSU Coach Matt McMahon. “Obviously the first half was really ugly. I thought our guys competed at a high level. Just too many mistakes as far as turnovers and then we’ll talk about the start of the second-half. We just couldn’t score the ball whether it was threes or at the rim. I mean Pittsburgh defense certainly had something to do with that, but we really struggled to score there in an 8-to-10-minute stretch that cost us.” Starting the second half, Jaland Lowe hit a three-pointer and then Ishmael Leggett got a steal and a layup to push the Pittsburgh lead to four, 32-28. LSU failed to score and that led to a dunk by Cameron Corhen that forced LSU to call a timeout, down 34-28, with 18:47 to play. LSU was unable to answer back, missing three field goal attempts and two free throws to go with a turnover as Pittsburgh pushed the lead to 40-28 with 15:46 to play. ““They were the aggressor I thought coming out of the break,” said Coach McMahon. “Turnovers and I thought we had a couple opportunities at the rim that we didn’t finish and it was 13-0 run if I’m not mistaken and it wasn’t like it happened in 2 minutes. It was over an extended period. We just couldn’t score and so you saw there were some trade-offs. I think we scored four points and so we went with a four-guard lineup to try and space the floor and find some different ways to score. I thought it helped us get some baskets. Vyctorius Miller was terrific for us in the second half. He opened up some space for Jalen down in the post but then you saw there were also some tradeoffs on our defense.” The Tigers continued to fight and again found room to operate inside as a Jordan Sears layup cut the Pittsburgh lead to five, 43-38, with still 10:52 to play. The Panthers would move it back to double figures before LSU made a final run to cut the game to four at 56-52 on a free throw by Vyctorius Miller and then a layup by Dji Bailey that made it 58-54 with 5:41 to play. “We were able to get in a rhythm a few times this game,” said Reed in the post-game media session. “I think we’re a team that can take care of the ball better and I that that’ll be the difference, but when we had it going, I felt like it was going good.” Reed and Vyctorius Miller had 14 points each to lead LSU with Carter getting 11 points. Reed was 6-of-10 from the field, hitting his only three-point attempt with a free throw. Lowe had 22 points with four treys to lead Pittsburgh (6-0) with Leggett scoring 21 points. Corhen added 14 and Zach Austin 10 points. LSU shot 22-of-59 for the game (37.8%), with five made three-pointers and 14-of-20 from the free throw line. Pitt shot 64 percent in the second half (14-22) and finished the game 24-of-54 (44.4 percent). The Panthers made seven treys and was 19-of-22 at the line. Pitt out rebounded LSU, 36-35, and had a 34-30 advantage in paint points. LSU scored on 29-of-70 possessions, while Pitt cashed in on 33-of-64. LSU turned the ball over 20 times, but Pittsburgh was only able to get 11 points off turnovers. LSU had 12 points off the 13 Pittsburgh turnovers. “I feel like a lot of our turnovers were more on us than them,” said Reed. “I feel like a lot of the turnovers were careless but we’re a better team than that and I feel like we’ll take care of the ball better moving forward.” “I really like their team and I think they’re a team that will play deep into March,” said Coach McMahon. “They’re experienced, tough, physical. I thought Jaland Lowe showed today why a lot of people think he’s a first round NBA pick at the point guard position. The Pete Maravich Assembly Center crowd was treated to a tremendous game that resulted in a victory for the home team as the Tigers downed the Bucs 77-68. The first half was like a pair of swinging doors as the squads exchanged baskets. In the opening 20 minutes of play, there were nine lead changes and Charleston Southern held the largest lead of the half with a five-point advantage. The Buccaneers grabbed equal amounts of defensive and offensive rebounds off the glass allowing them to run out to a 34-29 halftime score. LSU was just inconsistent with their play all-around committing six turnovers and nine personal fouls in the period. The second half seemed like a night-and-day difference. Tigers’ starters scored 34 points in the second period as opposed to just nine combined through the first. Jordan Sears and Dji Bailey led the way with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Off the bench, Vyctori Miller was a massive offensive catalyst scoring 19. Although LSU struggled from the free throw line, the Tigers were able to capitalize on a big second half and finished the game shooting just over 50% from the field. With just under nine minutes to play, LSU made their final big push towards securing a late victory. The Tigers would go on a 14-2 scoring run over the course of nearly six minutes. Charleston State would not make another field goal attempt over the final 2:21. Another gritty performance from the Tigers gave them the 77-68 edge over a relentless CSU group. Next up, LSU will take part in the Greenbrier Tip-Off in West Virginia. There, they will play the Pitt Panthers in a battle of unbeatens.  Photo By: LSUsports.net Da Boot Sports 11/14/2024 By: Mark Hawlins MANHATTAN, KANSAS - On Thursday night Cam Carter returned to a very familiar gymnasium where he once played and had a big part in his former team's 2023 NCAA Tournament run all the way to the Elite eight before falling to Florida Atlantic, 79-76. This season however, Cam decided to bring his talent back home to Louisiana for his senior season and finish his college career at LSU. The Tigers were glad to welcome him, but the same can't be said about his former team and fans as Carter led the Tigers past KSU IN Manhattan on Thursday night. Carter finished the night and the Wildcats off with a spectacular performance, leading the Tigers with a game high 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assist on the night. LSU improved to 3-0, while Kansas State fans watched Carter put up his third twenty plus point game. The Tigers jumped out to a big lead in the first half, leading by as much as 17 points, before going into the half up by 13. LSU played very tough, physical defense against the Wildcats all first half, only allowing 31 points and holding their opponent to 12-33 from the field and 4-13 from three point range. The Tigers shot 17-33 from the field for 51.5% along with 5-15 from the three arc for 33.3%. LSU also shot 100% from the free throw line, going 4-4 in the first half. The second half saw the Tigers get sloppy with the basketball, which resulted in 11 turnoversin the half, after only comitting five in the first period. LSU came up big on the boards after a lackluster performance last time out. The Tigers out-rebounded KSU, 43-25. Leading the Tigers Corey Chest who grabbed 13 rebounds and accounted for 5 points. Kentucky transfer, Junior Daimion Collins had his best night as a Tiger, scoring 12 points along with 3 rebounds. Freshman Vyctorius Miller, son of No Limit rapper Silk the Shocker, had a career high as a Tiger pouring in 15 points, 3 rebounds and two assist in 21 minutes of play. Guard Jordan Sears was also solid on the night with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assist. LSU continues to shoot free throws well. After going 4-4 in the first half, they finished the night 14-18 for 77.8%. Junior Jalen Reed has a nice night on the boards, accounting for 8 rebounds, but was quiet offensively finishing the night with only five points. You could tell the Tigers' height was a difference maker as KSU struggled to score around the basket. Even though LSU only managed two blocked shots on the night, State struggled to finish around the rim. Matt McMahon and his staff has LSU playing some good basketball right now. I think tonight's win was a very solid one and could go along way to determining LSU's NCAA Tournament chances. Even thought it's early, overall LSU's program is headed in the right direction under third year head coach Matt McMahon. The Tigers must continue to work on turnovers and not rely on the three pointer as much. I think we have the much needed depth and size this season down low and on the wing. If the guards continue to improve, the Tigers can make a tournament run along with some noise in the SEC, but again, only time will tell. LSU will be in action again on Tuesday, November 19 in the PMAC against Charleston Southern at 7:oo pm. Weil MANHATTAN, KANSAS - The Tigers hit the road for the first time this season and came away with an impressive, 76-65 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats. LSU flexed their defensive muscles all game long, suffocating and frustrating the Wildcats throughout the night. The Tigers also dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Kansas State, 43-25. LSU shot the ball well all night, finishing 27-54 from the floor for 50%. They finished 8-24 from behind the three point arc for 33%. The Tigers continue to shoot well from the free throw line, hitting 14-18 for 78%. The only hick up for the Bayou Bengals on the night was their turnovers in the second half. They finished the night with 16 total turnovers. Cam Carter had a great night against his former team, leading the Tigers with 20 points. Jordan Sears and Vyctorius Miller both finished with 15 points each. Daimion Collins added 12 points. Jalen Redd and Cory Chest both finished with 5 points each, while Dji Bailey contributed 4. Both teams ran the floor with a fast pace to start the contest as we played near even over the first four minutes of the game. Kansas State held a 7-5 lead with 16:00 left in the first half. Over the next five minutes both teams heated up and turned the game into a back and forth scoring affair. The Wildcats led 17-16 at the 10:53 mark official's timeout. LSU turned up their intensity and game play over the next three minutes, outscoring Kansas State, 11-6 to take a 27-23 lead with 7:43 left in the half. The Tigers continued to play well on both ends of the court. LSU would go on a 9-1 run over the next three minutes to extend their advantage to 36-24 with 4:37 left on the clock until the break. The Bayou Bengals would take a 43-31 lead into the locker room at the half. LSU had a great first half shooting from the floor, hitting 17-33 for 52%. They sank 5-15 from behind the arc for 33%. The Tigers were perfect from the free throw line over the first 20 minutes sinking 4-4. The Tigers only turned the ball over five times in the fist half while forcing Kansas State into five. LSU also out-rebounded the Wildcats, 21-12. Cam Carter led the Tigers with 12 points at the break. Jordan Sears and Daimion Collins both scored 8 points each. Vyctorius Miller added 7 points, while Dji Bailey finished with 4. Jalen Reed and Corey chest both contributed 2 points each. Kansas State and LSU, played even over the first five minutes of the second half, with the Tigers' still leading by 12, 49-37 at the 15:23 mark. LSU maintained their strong play over the next three minutes, as they held a 53-40 lead with 11:49 left in the contest. The Wildcats would outscore LSU, 6-3 over the next three minutes, cutting the Tigers' lead to ten, 56-46 with 9:14 left on the clock. The Bayou Bengals continued to outplay the Wildcats, keeping their lead in double digits. With 3:43 left, LSU held a 67-54 lead. The Tigers never flinched over the final three minutes of the contest to capture the impressive road victory. With the win, LSU is now 3-0 on the season. This time however in the form of a SWAC member Alabama State. The Tigers found themselves trailing again at halftime, this time via the hardwood as ASU gave LSU fans and their basketball team all they could handle and more. The Hornets were coming off of a 93-79 loss at the hands of UNLV in their season opener and came to Baton Rouge as a game bunch with a nothing to lose attitude, saw ASU go into halftime leading, 32-26. This left most of the fans in shock as they spent most of the first 15 minutes watching the Hornets outplay their Tigers. Alabama State sticking to their game plan was one of the reasons they held a six point lead at the break. Being led by Amarr Knox, (20 points,2 rebounds and 2 assist), along with senior guard TJ Madlock (21 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assist) gave coach McMahon and his staff reason for concern. But not to be outdone, despite a subpar first half performance, the Tigers were able to turn things around and eventually pull away late to get the victory. LSU shooting was ice cold as they shot a miserable 32% from the field in the first half and we didn't see the shooting percentage rise much in the second half. The Tigers finished the night, 21-47 shooting for 44.7%. The LSU three point shooting wasn't much better as they only shot 7-20 from three point range for 35%. The play of senior transfer guard Dji Bailey's, 9 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assist helped keep the Bayou Bengals within reach at the half. Bailey finished the night with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assist. The Tigers also got some much needed help in the second half from Cam Carter with his game high 21 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assist, which matched his 21 point effort in his season opening debut. Jordan Sears, another LSU transfer, making his second straight start as a Tiger played a big role in the second half run, pouring in 18 points, 3 rebounds along with 5 assist. The Tigers' shooting from the foul line in game one was something to take notice, as they shot a remarkable 17-19 for 85.9%. We watched the the foul shooting take a dip Sunday afternoon as the Tigers were 25-34 from the line, good for 73.5%. Even though the Hornets were the smaller team, we watched them out-rebound LSU on the night, 38-33. They also outscored LSU in the paint, 30 to 24. It was only game two of the season but the Tigers have a lot of work to clean up and work on. Being the bigger and supposedly more physical team, one would have expected or thought LSU would dominate the glass. Like the great Lee Corso would say, "Not so fast my friend". ASU won the battle on the boards tonight as our bigs have to play better. Jalen Reed coming off of a career high of 24 points in the season opener had an off night. Despite playing 24 minutes, he could only muster up 6 points, and 3 rebounds. Derek Fountain (6 rebounds), along with Dji Bailey (7 rebounds), were the Tigers' top glass eaters tonight. I think this LSU team has the ability and potential to become a field of 64 contestant, but McMahon and his team needs time to get familiar with his players knowing what each player gives him and which 5 players on the court gives them the best chance to win these first two games. We really haven't gotten much to go off of. It's too early to judge. If you're a fan and have seen this team in action you know one thing, the potential is there. But so is the youth. Only time will tell how far Coach McMahon can lead these Tigers. You can catch LSU in action again on Thursday night, November, 14, as they face off against Kansas State. Weil Baton Rouge, LA- After beginning their third season together with a dominant 35-point victory, Matt McMahon and the LSU Men’s Basketball program went back to work Sunday evening. Although life wasn’t easy in the beginning, the Tigers pulled out a 74-61 victory over the Alabama State University Hornets to improve to 2-0. Both teams started slow. At the 15:54 mark in the first half, the score was tied at four apiece during the first official timeout of the game. The Tigers struggled shooting the ball in all phases early on with splits of 30%-25%-50% from the field, arc, and charity stripe respectively. Luckily for LSU, the Hornets’ percentages were not much better over the first 12 minutes of play. With 7:49 to go in the opening frame, Alabama State found themselves down by four. As LSU continued to have trouble putting the ball in the basket, the ASU Hornets made the most of it, working their way to a six-point halftime lead, thanks in large part to their efficiency at the free-throw line. The Hornets were 8-10 from the stripe as the LSU was just 7-14. An ugly first half came to a close for the Tigers that featured eight turnovers, 11 personal fouls, and a 32-26 deficit. Less than four minutes into the second period, LSU was able to trim the Hornet lead to just a single point. ASU was forced to use one of its remaining timeouts with 16:34 remaining after they picked up their fifth team foul. Rob Miller III gave the Tigers their first lead since being up 25-24 in the first period, but ASU quickly jumped back out in front, going on a 9-0 run. With 11 minutes to go, LSU trailed 48-42. Jordan Sears got hot in a hurry for LSU, leading a fiery comeback charge for the home team that included knocking down a pair of free throws to put the Tigers back in front, 52-51. Cam Carter joined the fun, knocking down a trey to extend the lead to four. LSU went on a 17-4 run before a timeout was called. As the game clock wound to under three minutes, the Tigers led 66-55. Eventually, the Hornets’ efforts just fell short. LSU would go on to win the ballgame 74-61. Up next, LSU will travel to Bramlage Coliseum for a date with the Kansas State Wildcats. The fans sat eagerly waiting to see what this year's men's basketball team will look like under 3rd year head coach Matt McMahon. Those in attendance along with the coach and his staff would be thrilled with what they witnessed, as the Tigers ran away with their season opener in route to a convincing, 95-60 victory over UL Monroe. The Tigers jumped out to a big lead and went into halftime with a 50-27 lead. LSU was led in the first half by junior Jalen Reed, who had 16 points and six rebounds at intermission. Along with his hot shooting from the floor, (5 for 5), Reed would finish the night with a career high, 8 of 9 from the floor for 24 points with eight rebounds. LSU also had a great night from senior transfer Cam Carter. The Kansas State transfer and Louisiana native, finished his debut night as a Tiger with 21 points, four rebounds and an assist. Freshman newcomer Curtis Givens III chipped in 15 points, six rebounds and two assist. Givens and Carter both connected on four three pointers each. Coach McMahon was pleased with the way his team shot the ball from the free throw line as the Tigers went 17-19 on the night. LSU out-rebounded the Warhawks, 45-30. Coach McMahon was also pleased with his team's performance, especially how well they played on defense, rebounded and guarded against the three point shot. The Tigers will look to continue their winning ways and improve on their overall shooting when they take on Alabama State on Sunday, November 10th at 4pm in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - Matt McMahon and his LSU Fighting Tigers opened up the 2024-25 basketball season with a victory over the UL Monroe Warhawks in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Wednesday night. After a sluggish start during the opening eight minutes of play, the Bayou Bengals found their groove and coasted the rest of the way. “It was a great way to start off the season." said Matt McMahon. "As I looked at the game, I really liked our defensive intensity and our ability to be disruptive there. I thought we did a terrific job defending the three-point line. They had only six assists and 14 turnovers. I thought that was really good for us on that side of the ball. We wore them down some with our pressure. We were really concerned with the defensive glass coming in. ULM returned a lot from last season and was a top 35 offensive rebounding team in the country. We got 78% of the misses tonight, which is a good number that will win for us. Offensively, when the ball moved, we were really effective. I thought (LSU Forward) Derek Fountain gave us huge energy when he came in the game and was able to change the pace of the game. I really enjoyed watching us play offensively. There were a few careless turnovers, and I think we are a much better shooting team than we showed. All in all, it was a great way to start the season. I look forward to learning from it and getting ready for Alabama State on Sunday.” LSU shot well from the floor most of the night finishing, 34-67 for 51%. They were able to sink 10-34 from behind the three point arc for 29%. The Tigers were solid from the charity stripe, hitting 17-19 for 89%. LSU committed 12 total turnovers while forcing UL Monroe into 14. The Tigers were lead by Jalen Reed who scored a career high 24 points. Cam Carter had a good first game as a Tigers, scoring 21 points. Curtis Givens III added 15 points. Dji Bailey contributed 13. Jordan Sears scored 7 points while Derek Fountain had 6 points. The Warhawks grabbed the early lead when Jerry Ngopot sank a shot at the 19:13 mark. Jalen Reed would then sink two free throws to even things up at 2-2. An LSU steal and fast break slam dunk by Bji Bailey lead to a UL Monroe timeout. With 16:11 left in the first half, LSU led 10-3. Sloppy play by the Tigers over the next five minutes, allowed UL Monroe to outscore LSU, 12-6, to cut the Bayou Bengals lead down to one point, 16-15 with 11:32 left on the clock in the opening period. Over the next four minutes, LSU would outscore the Warhawks, 9-0 to hold a 25-15 advantage at the 7:57 mark of the first half. The Tigers finally began to heat up as three different Tigers were able to sink a shot from behind the arc. With 4:15 left in the first half, LSU now lead, 38-19. LSU would finish off the first half going on a 34-12 run to take a 50-27 lead into the locker room at the halftime break. The Tigers shot 16-32 from the floor for 50% in the first half. They shot 5-18 from behind the arc for 28%. LSU had a great first half from the free throw line, hitting 13-14 for 93%. The Tigers committed seven first half turnovers while forcing eight. Jalen Reed led the Tigers at the break with 16 points. Cam Carter scored 14 points. Curtis Givens III added 8 points. Dji Bailey and Derek Fountain both contributed 4 points each, while Mike Williams III and Daimion Collins each added 2 points. The Tigers started the second half with a 16-7 run to increase their lead to 66-34 at the 15:19 mark official's timeout. LSU continued to pour it on the Warhawks, as they extended their lead to 74-40 with 11:55 to go in the game. The Tigers simply cruised the rest of the way.
