Weil AUBURN, AL - LSU traveled to Auburn looking to bounce back from their loss to Oklahoma, but unfortunately it didn't happen as the Bayou Bengals fell to the home team Tigers, 88-74. Same story, different game. After playing a competitive first half, LSU continues to get out-coached and out-played in the second half. LSU shot 55% from the field for the game. They hit 7-15 from behind the three point arc. At the free throw line they sank 19-26 for 73%. Rebounds were even at 27-27. LSU turned the ball over 16 times while Auburn committed nine. Nwoko led the team with 19 points. Reece and Tamba both finished with 12 each. Sutton added 10 points. Carter contributed 8. Miller scored 5 points. Mackinnon and Mosley both finished with 3 points each. King scored 2 points. The game began with a fast and furious pace with both teams pushing the ball quickly up the court. We traded baskets in a close, competitive contest. At the 15:26 media timeout, Auburn led 11-9. Over the next three minutes, LSU out-scored the home Tigers, 7-2, taking a 16-13 advantage at the 11:48 official's timeout. The contest remained a good ole entertaining SEC battle. With 7:59 left in the half, LSU led 21-19. It was Auburn's turn to go on a run. A 10-6 run over the last four minutes to regain the lead, 29-27. Auburn was able to take advantage of ten first half turnover by LSU, taking a 41-34 lead into halftime. LSU shot 54% from the field in the first half. They hit 3-8 from behind the arc for 38%. At the charity stripe they sank 5-5. The Bayou Bengals led the rebound battle at the half, 16-12. The ten LSU first half turnovers were costly, while Auburn only committed two. Nwoko led the team at the break with 13 points. Sutton had 5. Tamba and Miller both finished with 4 points each, Mackinnon and Carter added 3 points each. Reece finished with 2 points. Auburn would begin the second half with a 12-8 run, extending their lead to 53-42 at the 16:29 mark. LSU battled hard to keep things close, cutting the Auburn lead to eight, 63-55 at the 11:46 media timeout. Both teams were shooting the ball well. Auburn 53% from the field while LSU was shooting 57%. The home team Tigers took complete control of the contest, building a 15 point advantage, 76-61 with 7:25 remaining. With 3:57 remaining, Auburn led, 81-64. Auburn simply controlled the contest the rest of the way for the victory. LSU falls to 15-15 overall and 3-14 in SEC play.
