Da Boot Sports 1/20/2026 By: Terrill J. Weil GAINESVILLE, FL - LSU traveled to Gainesville and struggled against the Gators, falling 79-61 on Tuesday night. DJ Thomas Jr. returned for the Tigers, but was rusty. LSU simply didn't have enough offense to challenge the 16th ranked Gators. The Tigers were inconsistent all evening against a very good Florida team. LSU shot 43% from the field on the night. They hit 3-11 from behind the arc for 27%. They sank 10-15 from the charity stripe. Florida dominated on the boards, out-rebounding LSU, 50-30. Nwoko led the team with 17 points. Mackinnon and Sutton both had 10 points each. King and Miller finished with 8 points each. Tamba had 4. Reece and Thomas added 2 points each, The contest began with both teams pushing that ball up and down to court quickly. At the 15:37 media timeout, the game was even at 7-7. Over the next five minutes, Florida out-scored the Tigers, 10-5 to take a 17-12 lead. Both teams would fall into a scoring drought, going minutes without scoring. With 3:49 left in the first half, the Gators led, 23-18. Florida would go on an 11-5 run to extend their lead to 34-23 with only 40 seconds remaining in the half. Thomas Haugh hit a three pointer at the buzzer to give the Gators a 38-26 halftime lead. Both teams shot 40% from the field in the first half. The Tigers hit 3-5 three pointers for 60%. At the free throw line, they sank 3-6. Florida out-rebounded LSU over the first 20 minutes, 23-15. The Tigers had seven first half turnovers while Florida only committed two. Nwoko led the team at the break with 8 points. King scred 6 points. Mackinnon added 5. Miller contributed 4. Sutton had 2 points and Tamba scored 1 point. Over the first four and a half minutes of the second half, both teams played even at 6-6. With 15:33 left on the clock, Florida led, 44-32. LSU struggled to gain ground on the Gators. At the 11:38 media timeout, Florida led by twelve, 52-40, as turnovers continued to hurt the Tigers. Florida quickly ran off seven straight to increase their advantage to 59-40 at the 10:26 mark. After trailing by as much as 24 points, the Tigers would go on a quick 9-5 run to cut the lead to 74-55 with 3:16 remaining.. With the loss the Tigers fall to 13-6 overall and 1-5 in the SEC. Next up the Tigers will travel to Fayetteville to play Arkansas on Saturday, January 24 at 7:30 pm....
