Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU returned to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Sunday to host Florida Gulf Coast and came away with an 80-71 victory in front of 7,156 Tiger fans. The Tigers remained in control throughout the contest against a tough and pesky Eagles squad. LSU shot a nice 50% from the floor for the game. They hit 8-27 from behind the arc for 30%. Sank 14-16 from the free throw line for 88%. The Tigers won the rebound battle, 36-30. Daimion Collins led the team with 18 points. cam Carter and Jordan Sears both finished with 13 points each. Corey Chest scored 12 points. Dji Bailey added 11 points. Vyctorius Miller contributed 8 points and Robert Miller III had 4. Both teams opened the game playing fast pace and up tempo, as LSU found themselves in a close contest early with the Eagles. At the 15:43 media timeout, the Tigers held a 13-10 advantage. Over the next four minutes, LSU would start to pull away, going on an 11-2 run to take a 24-12 lead. With 3:13 left in the first half, the Bayou Bengals held a 37-22 lead as they turned up the heat on both ends of the floor. The contest would go to halftime with LSU up by 15, 42-27. The Tigers shot the ball well in the first half, going 15-28 from the floor for 54%. They hit 6-14 from behind the three point line for 43%. The men purple and gold sank 6-7 free throws for 86%. The turnovers were close as the Tigers committed 9 turnovers while FGCU had 10. The battle on the boards were close also with LSU leading it slightly, 19-17. Cam Carter and Dji Bailey both scored 11 points each to led the team at the break. Jordan Sears had 8 points. Corey Chest added 6 points. Daimion Collins had 4 points while Robert Miller III finished with 2. LSU started the second half with a 8-4 run to increase their lead to 50-31 at the 15:46 mark. Over the next five minutes, FGCU would outscore LSU, 10-6 to cut the lead to 56-41 at the 11:09 mark. But the Tigers would respond with an 11-5 run to build a twenty point lead, 67-47 with 7:26 left in the contest. The Tigers simply coasted the rest of the way to their 8th victory of the season. With the win, LSU improves to 8-1. Next up the Tigers travel to Frisco, Texas to take on SMU on Saturday December 14. Tipoff is set for 3:00 pm and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
