Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU opened their 2025-26 season with a 96-60 victory over Tarleton State on Wednesday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in front of 6,525 Tiger fans. The Tigers quietly shot the ball extremely well on the night. They finished 33-47 from the floor for an amazing 70%. They sank 8-18 from behind the arc for 44%. At the free throw line, the Tigers hit 22-29 for 76%. LSU out-rebounded the Texans, 39-21 and the only blemish of the night was LSU committing 15 turnovers. Max MacKinnon led the team with 19 points. Dedan Thomas Jr. finished with 16. Marquel Sutton added 13 points. Jalen Reed and Mike Nwoko both finished with 11 points each. Robert Miller had 10 points. PJ Carter and Jalen Reece both had 5 points each. Pablo Tamba finished with 4. Both teams started fast, each sinking a quick basket each to start the game, but LSU held a 3-2 lead, thanks to a free throw by Dedan Thomas after he was fouled while making his shot. At the 15:49 media timeout, LSU led the Texan Riders, 11-6. Over the next five minutes, the Tigers began to slowly pull away. At the 11:34 mark, they led, 25-11. LSU continued to maintain their lead, outscoring the Texans, 18-15 over the next eight minutes. With 3:38 left in the first half, LSU held a 43-26 advantage. The first half came to an end with LSU holding a 47-31 lead at the break. Max MacKinnon led the Tigers at the half with 13 points. Marquel Sutton added 10. Robert Miller III scored 8 points. Dedan Thomas Jr. contributed 7. Jalen Reed scored 6 points and PJ Carter added 3 in the first half. The Tigers shot very well in the first half, going 16-31 from the floor for 76%. They sank 5-9 from behind the three point arc for 56%. At the charity stripe, LSU hit 10-13 for 77%. The Tigers out-rebounded the Texans, 16-13 in the first half. LSU turned the ball over nine times over the first 20 minutes. The Tigers started the second half strong, out-scoring Tarleton State, 10-4 over the first four minutes. At the 15:58 official's timeout, LSU held a commanding, 57-35 advantage. LSU continued to shoot the ball well and play suffocating defense, as they extended their lead to 31 points, 77-46 with 7:48 left in the contest. The Bayou Bengals simply coasted the rest of the way for the 96-60 victory. Next Up, LSU (1-0), will host UNO on Monday, November 10.
