Da Boot Sports 12/29/2024 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU easily defeated Mississippi Valley State, 110-45 in front of 8,257 Tiger fans in the Maravich Center. This one was never close, LSU exploded out of the gate and cruised to the easy blow out victory. The Tigers shot 46-70 from the floor on the night for 66%. They were fantastic from behind the three point arc, hitting 12-31 for 39%. They sank 6-12 from the charity stripe. LSU only turned the ball over six times, zero in the second half. With great defense, they forced 17 turnovers. The Bayou Bengals dominated the boards, 41-22. Cam Carter led the Tigers with 23 points. Vyctorius Miller scored 20 points. Daimion Collins and Justin Sears both scored 15 points each. Corey Chest added 8 points. Dji Bailey and Derek Fountain both managed 7 points each. Noah Boyde finished with 6. Curtis Givens III had 5 points and Robert Miller III finished with 4. The Tigers started fast, opening the game with a 12-6 lead at the 15:24 mark. Over the next three minutes LSU would go on a 13-2 run to increase their lead to 25-8, forcing the Delta Devils to call a timeout with 12:31 left in the first half. The Tigers kept rolling, outscoring the Delta Devils, 11-0 over the next three minutes to extend their lead to 36-8 with 7:44 remaining in the half. The blowout continued on as LSU built their advantage to 37 points, leading 47-10 at the 3:51 official's timeout. LSU would go into halftime with a commanding, 55-13 lead. The Tigers were red hot in the first half shooting 61% from the floor. They hit 7-19 three point attempts for 37%. They were 2-5 from the free throw line. The Tigers only turned the ball over once in the first half while forcing Mississippi Valley State into 11. LSU also won the rebound battle, 22-13. Cam Carter led the team at the break with 16 points and Jordan Sears had 10. Daimion Collins and Vyctorius Miller both scored 8 points each. Dji Bailey and Corey Chest both added 4 points each. Curtis Givens III scored 4 and Robert Miller III had 2 points. LSU remained red hot to start the second half, going on a 14-9 run over the first four minutes of the period, taking a 69-22 lead. The Tigers continued to pour it on, outscoring the Delta Devils, 27-12 over the next nine minutes to lead 95-34 with 7:09 left in the contest. The rest of the way was all Tigers until the final buzzer. With the win, LSU improves to 11-2 on the season. Next up the Tigers begin SEC play as they will host Vanderbilt on Saturday, January 4.
