Weil NASHVILLE, TN - LSU headed to Nashville to take on Mississippi State in the first round of the SEC Tournament and were blown out, 91-62 in an embarrassing season finale. LSU finished the game shooting 39% from the floor. Poor shooting from the outside with no inside game. The Tigers struggled in every phase of the game. Jordan Sears led the team with 20 points. Robert Miller III scored 14. Cam Carter finished with 13 points. A disappointing way to end a dismal season. The contest started competitive but low scoring, as both teams fought to settle into a groove. At the 13:50 media timeout, Mississippi State led, 13-12. LSU would go on a two minutes scoring drought allowing State to increase their lead. With 7:53 left in the first half the Bulldogs held a 26-19 lead. The Tigers struggled over the next four minutes and State took advantage, going on an 11-3 run to take a 37-22 lead. Things got ugly for the Bayou Bengals as the Bulldogs began to pour it on. A 7-1 run extended Mississippi State’s lead to 44-23 at the 2:16 mark. LSU found themselves down by 20 at halftime, 44-24. Just a sloppy first half of play by the Tigers. LSU went without a basket during the last ten plus minutes of the first half. They shot 31% from the floor. They shot poorly from three point land, 3-15 for 20%. Only 45% from the charity stripe, hitting 5-11. The Tigers committed nine costly turnovers and were out-rebounded, 23-18. Jordan Sears led the team at the break with 8 points. Cam Carter scored 7 points. No one else had more than 4. LSU began the second half outscoring State, 10-7. At the 16:33 mark, the Bulldogs led, 51-36. Mississippi State responded with a 12-4 run to take a 23 point lead, 63-40 with 11:53 left in the contest. The LSU meltdown continued as the Bulldogs increased their lead to thirty, 76-46 with 7:29 remaining. Mississippi State was making it look easy, toying with the Bayou Bengals as the blow out surged on. State cruised the rest of the way for the easy victory. With the loss LSU finishes the season, 14-18. It will be an interested offseason in Baton Rouge as we wait and see what the future brings for this struggling program.
