BATON ROUGE, LA - The Tigers struggled all nIght long as Mississippi State came into the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and dominated LSU, 80-66. It was an ugly, disappointing night for LSU basketball.

Mackinnon led the team with 15 points. Thomas and King both scored 14 points each. Tamba added 10. Miller, Sutton and Nwoko all finished with 4 points each. Reece scored 1 point.

Mississippi State started fast, racing out to a 9-2 lead at the 17:28 mark.

The Bulldogs continued to pour it on, going on an 8-3 run to increase their lead to 17-5. Matt McMahon had seen enough and called a timeout with 14:46 left on the clock.

State remained on fire, out-scoring LSU, 10-4 over the next three minutes. The Tigers found themselves down, 27-9 at the 11:35 mark for another LSU timeout.

At the 8:00 media timeout, the Bulldogs led, 30-12. Mississippi State was simply out-playing LSU on both ends of the court.

LSU had no answer against the red hot Bulldogs, as Mississippi State continued to dominate the contest. With 3:32 remaining in the first half, State led, 44-17.

It was a very embarrassing first half performance by LSU, as Mississippi State led, 44-21 at halftime.

LSU only shot 32% from the field in the first half. They hit 1-10 from behind the arc. At the free throw line they sank, 2-8 for 25%. State out-rebounded the Bayou Bengals, 26-14.
Thomas led the team at the break with 7 points. Nwoko scored 4. King and Tamba both added 3 points each. Miller and Mackinnon had 2 points each.

The Tigers started the second half with a little more energy, out-scoring State 11-6, cutting the led to 50-32 at the 16:08 mark.

State heated back up again, increasing their advantage to 68-44 with 11:13 remaining.

LSU was unable chip into Mississippi State's commanding lead. The Bulldogs led, 78-61 with 5:09 left in the contest.

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 13-8 overall and 1-7 in SEC play. Next up, LSU will travel to Columbia to play South Carolina on Saturday, January 31 at 5:00 pm. The game will be on the SEC Network.
