Da Boot Sports 1/28/2026 By: Terrill J. Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Tigers struggled all nIght long as Mississippi State came into the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and dominated LSU, 80-66. It was an ugly, disappointing night for LSU basketball. The Tigers shot 43% from the field for the game. They hit 4-20 from behind the three point arc for 20%. At the charity stripe they sank, 12-23 for 52%. State out-rebounded LSU, 43-24. Mackinnon led the team with 15 points. Thomas and King both scored 14 points each. Tamba added 10. Miller, Sutton and Nwoko all finished with 4 points each. Reece scored 1 point. Mississippi State started fast, racing out to a 9-2 lead at the 17:28 mark. The Bulldogs continued to pour it on, going on an 8-3 run to increase their lead to 17-5. Matt McMahon had seen enough and called a timeout with 14:46 left on the clock. State remained on fire, out-scoring LSU, 10-4 over the next three minutes. The Tigers found themselves down, 27-9 at the 11:35 mark for another LSU timeout. At the 8:00 media timeout, the Bulldogs led, 30-12. Mississippi State was simply out-playing LSU on both ends of the court. LSU had no answer against the red hot Bulldogs, as Mississippi State continued to dominate the contest. With 3:32 remaining in the first half, State led, 44-17. It was a very embarrassing first half performance by LSU, as Mississippi State led, 44-21 at halftime. LSU only shot 32% from the field in the first half. They hit 1-10 from behind the arc. At the free throw line they sank, 2-8 for 25%. State out-rebounded the Bayou Bengals, 26-14. Thomas led the team at the break with 7 points. Nwoko scored 4. King and Tamba both added 3 points each. Miller and Mackinnon had 2 points each. The Tigers started the second half with a little more energy, out-scoring State 11-6, cutting the led to 50-32 at the 16:08 mark. State heated back up again, increasing their advantage to 68-44 with 11:13 remaining. LSU was unable chip into Mississippi State's commanding lead. The Bulldogs led, 78-61 with 5:09 left in the contest. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 13-8 overall and 1-7 in SEC play. Next up, LSU will travel to Columbia to play South Carolina on Saturday, January 31 at 5:00 pm.
