We didn’t execute the way we wanted, and we were swinging out of the zone. Defensively, we have been making hard plays look easy. We were super athletic and played smart softball. It was fun to see.”

Kylee Edwards led LSU with a .500 batting average, going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring three runs, including her first home run as an LSU Tiger. K. Edwards added a double, bringing her slugging percentage to 1.500, and drew one walk.

Clopton continued her strong start by retiring seven of the first eight batters. The fifth-year pitcher allowed a run-scoring single by Claire Sisco, giving Nicholls a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Clopton clamped down after that, sitting down the next eight batters before Heavener relieved her in the top of the sixth.

LSU tied the game with an RBI single from Lassiter in the third. The Tigers broke the tie in the fifth with a fielder’s choice RBI by T. Edwards and an RBI single from Maci Bergeron.

Heavener pitched with a lead in the sixth and seventh innings. She retired the Colonels in order in the seventh, highlighted by her second strikeout of the game.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Sophomore outfielder Alix Franklin dazzled in No. 19/17 LSU’s 10-2 run-rule victory over South Alabama. Franklin drove in a career-high four RBI on two hits Tuesday night at Tiger Park.

With the win, LSU improves to 8-4 on the season. This victory snaps a three-game losing streak for the Tigers and ends South Alabama’s two-game winning streak. South Alabama falls to 7-4 on the season.

“I thought we played much more like ourselves tonight,” said Head Coach Beth Torina. “It was nice to be back at Tiger Park in front of our fans and do a lot of good things tonight. I think that was much more like the brand of LSU Softball we expect from this group.”

Franklin went 2-for-3, with her fourth triple of the season, entering Tuesday as the nation's triples leader. Senior outfielder Jalia Lassiter extended her hitting streak to eight and matched her career-best with three runs.

Fifth-year senior pitcher Tatum Clopton (3-1) earned the win, allowing one run on three hits and two walks in four innings. Though she had no strikeouts, Clopton induced five groundouts, including two double plays, bringing the club’s season total to 10 double plays.

Pitcher Paytn Monticelli closed the game in the fifth, striking out two, yielding one run on two hits, and walking one batter.

South Alabama pitcher Ryley Harrison (3-2) took the loss. She struck out two, surrendered seven runs on six hits, and walked four in 2.1 innings.

Franklin’s two-out single drove in the first run. After outfielder Char Lorenz reached on a fielding error to load the bases, Harrison issued her third walk of the inning, crediting designated player Ally Hutchins with an RBI. LSU led 2-0 after the opening frame.

Second baseman Sydney Stewart drove a pitch through the left side that scored a run for South Alabama in the top of the second. However, an RBI single by T. Edwards in the home half gave LSU its one-run advantage back, taking a 3-1 lead into the third inning.

Clopton and company recorded its second 1-2-3 inning of the game, and LSU erupted for seven runs on four hits, and was aided by two Jaguar errors to build a 10-1 lead through three innings. The Tigers loaded the bases with singles from Lorenz and Hutchins, and a hit by pitch for third baseman Avery Hodge. Lassiter then recorded the third single of the inning, a shallow hit to left field, and then an error by the outfielder helped clear the bases as Lassiter zoomed around the diamond and touched home plate to be credited with two RBI on the hit. A few batters with the bases still loaded again, Franklin laced a base-clearing triple to right field for her fourth triple of the season, and LSU ended the inning with a nine-run lead.

After the LSU defense tallied its second double play of the game to end the fourth inning, Monticelli entered the circle in the fifth. She shut the door for the 10-2 victory.

LSU is now 7-2, while Duke improves to 6-1 after two Top 15 wins on the day.

Entering the bottom of the seventh down 5-3, Jalia Lassiter led off the inning with a double to right center field, and Sierra Daniel drew a walk to bring the go-ahead run to the plate with no outs. Duke retired the next three batters, however, to seal its second win of the day.

Jayden Heavener (2-2) registered five strikeouts and gave up 10 hits, five runs, and four walks. It was her third complete game of the season.

Lassiter led the Tigers with a 3-for-4 performance, including two extra-base hits and one run. The bottom of the lineup produced LSU’s other three hits: Alix Franklin’s first career home run and singles from Kylee Edwards and Avery Hodge.

Duke’s pitcher Cassidy Curd (3-0) tossed her second complete game of the season, striking out three while giving up six hits, three runs, and five walks.

Duke plated two runs on four hits in the top of the first inning, but a leadoff triple by Lassiter and three walks cut the deficit to 2-1 after the opening inning.

Duke added two in the second and one in the fourth for a 5-1 lead. The Tigers answered in the fourth with Franklin’s solo homer and Daniel’s RBI groundout, making it 5-3, the final score.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Pitchers Tatum Clopton and Ashlin Mowery combined for a shutout as No. 16/13 LSU concluded the 2026 Tiger Classic with a five-inning 8-0 victory over Lamar on Sunday evening at Tiger Park.
LSU (6-0) turned in its third consecutive run-rule victory and second shutout over a three-game stretch to close the opening weekend. Lamar (2-3) suffered a pair of shutouts on the final day of the Tiger Classic.

Clopton (2-0) retired her first five batters of the game and ultimately retired 12 of the 13 batters she faced. Clopton earned the win after striking out three batters and surrendering only one hit in 4.0 innings. In 8.2 innings pitched over two appearances this weekend, Clopton had nine strikeouts and gave up two hits and two walks, holding opposing batters to a .074 average.

Mowery made her collegiate debut in the circle, recording the final three outs for the Tigers, and had one strikeout.

Seven LSU Tigers were responsible for nine hits in the win, led by infielder Sierra Daniel (2-for-2) and outfielder Jalia Lassiter (2-for-3), who both had two hits, two runs and two RBI. Infielder Tori Edwards led the team with three RBI after hitting her second three-run home run in as many games.

Lamar’s pitcher, Kaylee Cuevas (0-1), was given the loss. Cuevas had two strikeouts but relinquished four runs on five hits and walked four batters in the first 2.1 innings.

“I saw a lot of good things from a lot of different people,” said Head Coach Beth Torina. “We still have a lot to learn, but we set the bar really high for what we’re capable of. It’s nice to have another team on the field, so we can get some film of things we can do better. There are ways we need to keep growing.”

Lassiter opened the game with a leadoff double, stole third, and came home on Daniel’s sacrifice fly for the early 1-0 lead after the first inning. Both teams were scoreless in the second, but in the third frame, T. Edwards hit her second three-run dinger of the day, giving LSU a four-run margin.

Clopton continued to deal as she sent the Cardinals out in order in the top of the fourth, retiring her seventh consecutive batter to end her day. In the bottom half of the inning, Daniel roped a run-scoring triple to center field, and a bloop double by catcher Maci Bergeron scored Daniel to stretch the lead to 6-0.

Mowery entered the circle in the fifth inning, where she retired three of the four batters she faced, capped by her first career strikeout, and Lassiter ended the game in the home-half with a two-RBI triple to left field.
