Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - LSU started the 2026 softball season hosting the Tiger Classic at Tiger Park on Thursday night against NC State and won in run-rule fashion, 11-3. Jayden Heavener pitch all five inning to earn the win. She gave up three runs on two hits, walked three and struck out ten. The Lady Tigers got on the board early. Jalia Lassiter led off with a single to the pitcher. Sierra Daniel then doubled up the middle, scoring Lassiter. Daniel was able to move to third on a fielder's choice. Tori Edwards stepped to the plate and brought Daniel home on a ground out to first base. We headed to the second inning with LSU up, 2-0. LSU stayed hot at the plate to start the second inning. Alix Franklin smashed a one out triple to right center. Avery Hodge then reached on a fielder's choice and was able to advance to second base on a throw that got Franklin out at third. Lassiter followed with a single to right field, then she was able to advance to second on a poor throw. Hodge scored on the play. Daniel stepped to the plate and doubled to left center field, scoring Lassiter. Maci Bergeron then doubled to center field to bring Daniel home. Bergeron was able to advance to third on a wild pitch. Bergeron was able to come home on a throwing error by the NC State catcher. The second inning came to a close with LSU now up, 6-0. NC State was able to plate a run in the top of the third, cutting the lead to, 6-1. The Lady Tigers answered in the bottom of the frame. Kylee Edwards led off by reaching on an error, then moved to second base on a passed ball. Char Lorenz then drew a base on balls. Next, Franklin hit her second triple of the contest, scoring both Lorenz and Edwards. Franklin was able to come home on an error by the right fielder. The third ended with LSU on top, 9-1. Hannah Church launched a solo home run for the Lady Wolfpack in the top of the fourth. 9-2 Lady Tigers as we moved to the bottom of the frame. Once again, LSU was able to answer the NC State run, plating two runs in the bottom of the fourth to increase their lead to 11-2. NC State plated another run in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to avoid the loss as the Lady Tigers run-ruled the Lady Wolfpack, 11-3. Next up, the 1-0 Lady Tigers will play Nevada at 3:00pm, then will take on NC State again at 5:30pm. *John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life.
