THOMAS – With yet another 100-point game under its belt, the fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team defeated Washington State in the championship game of the Paradise Jam Reef Division, 112-35, inside the Elridge Wilburn Blake Sports and Fitness Center on Saturday night on the University of Virgin Islands campus. Under head coach Kim Mulkey, LSU’s record in Thanksgiving tournaments moved to 10-0. The 77 point margin of victory is largest in program history away from the friendly confines of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. It also marked the fourth-largest margin of victory all-time, all four of which have come in the last three seasons. With the win, LSU collected its eighth straight victory to start the season, improving to 8-0 overall. With the loss, Washington State dropped to 1-7 on the year. LSU’s 100-point output against the Cougars extended its NCAA record in consecutive games with 100 points or more to eight. The Tigers established the DI record versus Marist on Nov. 28. LSU will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 4, when it travels to Durham, N.C., to take on the Duke Blue Devils inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. The contest is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN as a part of the ACC/SEC Challenge, which is in its third season. Fans are also encouraged to tune into the LSU Sports Radio Network with Patrick Wright and Shaeeta Williams on the call. Seven Tigers finished with double figures in scoring, including their leading scorer in senior Flau’jae Johnson (16). Other LSU players who scored in the double digits were freshman ZaKiyah Johnson (12), senior Amiya Joyner (12), junior Mikaylah Williams (12), sophomore Jada Richard (14), freshman Grace Knox, and junior MiLaysia Fulwiley (12). Joyner notched her second-straight double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, joining her performance against Marist (16 points, 10 rebounds) on Friday night. Richard’s 14 points was a career high for the sophomore guard. LSU shot 40-of-71 (56.3%) from the field, while the Cougars only converted on 13-of-48 (27.1%) field goal attempts. The Tigers outrebounded WSU by 37 (52-15) and knocked down 9-of-16 (56.3%) from behind the three-point arc. In the first quarter, LSU was able to build a sizable lead by the end of it, going ahead of Washington State by a 29-8 score. The Tigers started out on a 16-2 run before Washington State stopped the scoring drought with a three-pointer at the 5:01 mark. The LSU defense held the Cougars to three points for the remainder of the quarter, while the Tigers added 13. Richard led all Tigers with eight points. The Tigers added to their advantage in the second quarter by outscoring the opponent 25-9, which included a 16-3 run until the period’s media timeout. LSU would continue to dominate its opponent, taking a 54-17 lead into the halftime break. The third quarter brought along an extended period of time from the 4:51 mark of the third quarter to the 0:53 mark of the final period, where LSU scored 44 unanswered points. The Tigers outscored WSU, 58-18 in the second half. LSU defeated Marist in their first game, 113-53, setting the NCAA record for the longest streak of scoring 100 points in a game at seven. The Lady Tigers finished the night shooting 53% from the floor. They sank 4-16 from three point land for 26%. They had another solid night from the free throw line, hitting, 15-18 for 83%. LSU out-rebounded the Red Fox Ladies, 59-30. LSU committed 11 turnovers while forcing Marist into 28. ZaKiyah Johnson led the team with 19 points. Kate Koval had a double/double, scoring 17 points with 10 rebounds. Flau'Jae Johnson finished with 16. Amiya Joynner had a double/double with 16 points and 10 boards. MiLaysia Fulwiley, Grace Knox and Jada Rachard all finished with 11 points each. Mikaylah Williams added 6 points. Bella Hines, Divine Bourrage and Meghan Yarnrvich all scored 2 points each. The Lady Tigers dominated from the opening tip and finished the first period on a 12-0 run to take a 21-5 advantage into the second quarter. LSU's defense held Marist scoreless over the final four minutes of the opening period. LSU remained red hot, going on a 11-0 run to start the second period. At the 7:32 official's timeout, the Lady Tigers held a 32-5 lead. The Bayou Ben-Gals closed out the first half out-scoring an out-matched Red Fox squad, 26-9. LSU went into the locker room at the break leading, 58-14. LSU shot 23-48 from the floor in the first half for 48%. They only hit 1-8 from behind the arc for 13%. The Lady Tigers were solid from the charity stripe, sinking, 11-2 for 92%. LSU out-rebounded Marist, 34-18 over the first 20 minutes. The LSU defense forced 17 turnovers while only committing five in the first half. Amiya Joyner led the team at the break with 10 points. ZaKiyah Johnson and MiLaysia Fulwiley both added 9 points each. Kate Koval scored 8. Flau'Jae Johnson finished with 6. Grace Knox contributed 4 points. Divine Bourrage and Mikaylah Williams both finished with 2 points each. The third period began with both teams going back and forth trading baskets, as Marsit began to raise their level of play. At the 5:02 mark, LSU led, 74-29. Over the next four and a half minutes, LSU would go on a 15-5 run to extend their lead to 89-34 with 35 seconds left in the third. As the contest headed to the final period, LSU held a 55 point lead, 89-34. LSU out-scored the Red Fox Ladies, 12-6 over the first five minutes of the fourth period. With 4:51 left in the contest, the Lady Tigers led, 101-40. The Lady Tigers coasted the rest of the way for the impressive victory. With the win, LSU improves to 7-0. LSU tied a NCAA record and set a SEC record by scoring 100 points in six straight games. The Ben-Gals shot an outstanding, 41-71 from the floor for 58%. They finished, 6-16 from behind the three point arc for 38%. At the charity stripe, LSU sank, 24-30 for 80%. The Lady Tigers out-rebounded Alcorn State an amazing, 50-16 in the game. LSU played relentless defense, forcing the Lady Braves into 31 turnovers, while the only blemish on the night for LSU was 17 turnovers. Both Flau'Jae Johnson and MiLaysia Fulwiley led the team with 18 points each. Mikaylah Williams scored 15. Kate Koval finished with a double/double, 15 points and 12 rebounds. Grace Knox added 12 points. ZaKiyah Johnson and Amiya Joyner both scored 9 points each. Jada Richard had 8. Bella Hines and Divine Bourrage both contributed 3 points each. Meghan Yarnevich finished with 2 points. The Lady Tigers started the contest racing out to a 13-3 lead over the first five minutes of the period. LSU shifted gears to out-score the Lady Braves, 18-8 over the final five minutes of the first quarter. As the contest moved to the second period, the Ben-Gals led, 31-11. The Lady Tigers continued to dominate on both ends of the court, extending their lead to, 44-13 at the 5:05 mark of the second period. LSU ended a dominating first half, leading 57-21. The Lady Tigers shot an amazing, 60% from the floor in the first half. They were 5-10 from behind the arc. LSU continues to shoot fantastic from the free throw line, sinking, 10-12 for 83%. LSU out-rebounded the Braves, 23-11 and the Lady Tigers committed seven first half turnovers while forcing Alcorn State into 16. MiLaysia Fulwiley led the team at the break with 12 points. The Lady Braves started the second half with improved shooting, but they were still no match for the hot Lady Tigers, who our-scored Alcorn State, 17-11 over the first five and a half minutes of the period. 74-32, LSU at the 4:33 mark. LSU continued to pour it on the Lady Braves, out-scoring them, 12-3 over the final 4:33 of the third period to take an 86-35 advantage into the final quarter. At the 4:40 official's timeout, LSU held a commanding, 99-42 lead. LSU coasted on a night that every player on the team roster scored. With the win, the Lady Tigers improve to 6-0. Fogelman Arena in New Orleans. With the win, LSU picked up its fifth straight victory to start the season, moving to 5-0, while the Green Wave fell to 2-2 on the season. The Tigers ran their streak of 100-point games to five, joining the Houston Christian (108), Southeastern Louisiana (115), Georgia Southern (118) and Charlotte (117) contests. LSU’s five-straight 100-point outputs matched the Southeastern Conference record for consecutive 100-point games. The other team to accomplish the feat was Coach Kim Mulkey’s 2022-23 LSU team that went on to claim the program’s first national championship. In addition to another 100-point game, LSU’s 559 points through five games this season marks the most across five games in Division I over the last 25 years. LSU returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 20, when it takes on the Alcorn State Lady Braves inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network + with Lyn Rollins and legendary LSU men’s basketball sports information director Kent Lowe on the call. The Lady Tigers finished the night shooting, 35-71 from the floor for 49%. They were 10-20 from three point land. LSU had another solid night at the free throw line, sinking, 37-46 for 80%. The Lady Tigers won the rebound battle, 54-37. LSU committed 14 total turnovers on the night, while forcing the 49ers into 22. MiLaysia Fulwiley led the team in scoring with 22 points. Mikaylah Williams finished with 18. Flau'Jae Johnson added 16 points. Amiya Joyner had 15 points. ZaKiyah Johnson, Kate Koval and Grace Knox all contributed 10 points each. Bella Hines finished with 7. Kailyn Gilbert scored 6 points. Divine Bourrage added 2 points, while Meghan Yarnevich had 1 point. LSU had another great night defensively, holding Charlotte to only 28% shooting from the floor and blocking six shots. Mikaylah Williams got things going nine seconds into the contest, hitting a three pointer to put the Lady Tigers up quickly, 3-0. A scrappy Lady 49ers team played LSU tough over the first five minutes of the opening period. At the 4:41 official's timeout, the Lady Tigers held a 17-10 advantage. After the timeout, LSU turned things up a notch, going on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 24-10 at the 3:01 mark. The first period came to an end with the purple and gold Ben-Gals leading, 36-12. LSU simply exploded in the second period. Over the first six minutes of the quarter, the Lady Tigers went on a 14-1 run to increase their lead to 50-13 with 3:55 left in the first half. The first half came to an end with MiLaysia Fulwiley hitting a three pointer at the buzzer, putting LSU up by 45 points, 62-17 at the break. LSU picked up a third consecutive victory to begin the season, moving its overall record to 3-0, while Georgia Southern dropped to 1-2 on the season. The Tigers will return to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for their next contest against Charlotte on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The action can be streamed on SEC Network + with Lyn Rollins and Victor Howell calling the action at 7 p.m. CT. LSU shot 46-of-87 (53%) from the field and 9-of-20 (45%) from behind the three-point arc on its way to a third-straight game scoring 100-plus points. The Tigers’ three consecutive 100-point outputs marked the second time LSU has strung together at least three 100-point finishes. They hit that milestone five straight times to start the 2022-23 season. LSU’s 118 points was a season high. The Tigers scored 108 against Houston Christian and 115 versus Southeastern Louisiana. Johnson, in her return to her home state, led the Tigers in scoring against the Eagles with 19 points. She finished with six assists, four rebounds, and a steal. LSU junior MiLaysia Fulwiley also accounted for 19 points with one assist and seven rebounds. Sophomore Kate Koval, who transferred in from Notre Dame, collected her first double-double during her short stint in Baton Rouge so far. Koval had 12 points, 14 rebounds and two blocked shots. In addition to Flau’jae, Fulwiley, and Koval, three other Tigers finished in double figures including ZaKiyah Johnson (17), Mikaylah Williams (15), and Grace Knox (13), contributing to the team’s season high in points. The homecoming game for Johnson drew a Georgia Southern women’s basketball record crowd of 5,322 fans. Following the contest, Johnson and her teammates spent time with the fans at the Hill Convocation Center signing autographs and taking photos. In the first quarter, LSU was able to build a commanding 15-point lead by shooting 14-of-20 (70%) from the field. LSU’s 31-16 advantage by outscoring the Eagles, 18-6, in the paint and draining two three-pointers throughout the first period. Fulwiley led the Tigers in the first quarter coming off the bench with nine points and going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field. The game was a blowout from the opening tipoff, as LSU flexed their muscles all night long. LSU was on fire for all four periods and played suffocating defense. The Lady Tigers finished then night shooting, 50-74 for 68%. They hit 8-18 from three point land for 44%. They sank 7-13 from the free throw line for 54%. LSU out-rebounded SLU, 55-20 and forced the Lions into 29 turnovers while committing 15. Flau'Jae Johnson led the team with 17 points. ZaKiyah Johnson and Kate Koval both scored 16 points each. Bella Hines added 14 points. Grace Knox contributed 11. Mikaylah Williams and Kailyn Gilbert both finished with 8 points each. Amiya Joyner added 7 points. Divine Bourrage, Meghan Yarnevich and MiLaysia Fulwiley all scored 6 points each. It was a hot shooting LSU team to start the contest. The Lady Tigers went on a 13-2 run over the first four and a half minutes of the opening period, forcing SLU to call a timeout at the 6:36 mark. The Ben-Gals were simply too much for SLU on both ends of the court. Over the final 5:34 of the first half, LSU would go on a 16-0 run to take a 55 point lead, 61-6 into the locker room at the halftime break. ZaKiyah Johnson registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Grace Knox sank 10 points. Kailyn Gilbert scored 9 points. Amiya Joyner contributed 8 points. Kate Koval finished with 7. The Huskies played LSU tough over the final four minutes of the first period. The Lady Tigers ended up outscoring Houston Christian, 8-6 to end the period to hold a 26-13 advantage. It took LSU a few minutes to get things going in the second quarter, but eventually outscored the Huskies, 14-7 over the first five minutes of the period. LSU began to quickly, pulling away from the Huskies in the third period, out-scoring them, 14-6 over the first four minutes of the quarter to extend their lead to 67-33 at the 5:49 official's timeout. LSU dominated the rest of the period on both ends of the court. As the contest headed into the final period, LSU led, 87-45. The Lady Tigers continued to pull away in the final quarter. Kim Mulkey emptied the bench, as she experimented with different lineups and combinations. At the 5:04 official's timeout, LSU held a 101-52 lead. LSU costed the rest of the way for the 108-55 victory. The Lady Tigers (1-0), will next host Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday, November 6.
