GA - The #12 Lady Tigers traveled to Athens hoping to snap their two game losing streak against a good Georgia team and did so in blowout fashion with an 80-59 victory. The Lady Tigers shot 57% on the night. They hit 2-10 from three point land for 20%. From the free throw line, they sank 12-16 for 75%. LSU out-rebounded Georgia, 43-35. Flau'Jae led the team with 25 points. Fulwiley scored 18. Joyner and Z. Johnson both had 12 points each. Williams added 5 points. Knox, Koval, Richard and Hines all had 2 points each. The pace early on was fast and furious with both teams pushing the ball up and down the court relentlessly. LSU was able to out-score the Lady Bulldogs, 11-7 over the first five minutes of the opening period. The Ben-Gals held a 19-15 lead at the end of the first period. Both teams were shaky offensively with the Lady Tigers shooting 40% from the field while Georgia shot 31%. The Lady Tigers shifted into another gear to begin the second period, going on a 13-9 run to increase their lead to 32-24 at the 2:38 mark. LSU took a 38-28 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Lady Tigers shot 16-36 from the field for 44% in the first half. They were only 1-7 from behind the three point arc for 14%. They sank 5-6 from the charity stripe for 83%. LSU led in rebounds, 23-18. The Lady Tigers committed four first half turnovers while forcing Georgia into seven. Fulwiley led the team at the break with 11 points. Flau'Jae Johnson scored 8. Z. Johnson added 6 points. Joyner contributed 4. Williams scored 3 points. Richard, Hines and Koval all finished 2 points each. The Lady Tigers found themselves in a dog-fight in the third period, as Georgia out-scored them, 14-11 over the first six and a half minutes. At the 3:30 official's timeout, LSU led by eight, 49-41. The pesky Lady Bulldogs kept things competitive, as LSU took a 56-48 lead into the final period. Georgia out-scored LSU, 20-18 in the third period. LSU started the fourth period on fire, going on an 8-1 run, increasing their lead to 64-49, forcing Georgia to call a timeout at the 8:09 mark. The Lady Tigers continued to pull away over the final eight minutes of the contest. With the win, LSU improves to 15-2 overall and 1-2 in SEC play. Next up, the Lady Tigers will host #2 Texas on Sunday, January 11 at 2:00 pm. The game will be televised on ESPN. *John 14:6 - "I am the way and the truth and the life.
