Da Boot Sports 1/2/2025 By: Terrill J. Weil FAYETTEVILLE, AR - LSU opened SEC play on the road by defeating Arkansas in Fayetteville on Thursday night, 98-64. The game was never close, as the Lady Tigers started fast and never let up on the Lady Razorbacks. LSU finished the night shooting 39-78 from the floor for 50%. They hit 9-23 from behind the arc for 39%. They sank 11-13 from the charity stripe for 85%. The Lady Tigers committed 17 turnovers while Arkansas turned it over 21 times. LSU won the rebound battle, 48-32. Kailyn Gilbert led the team with 16 points. Flau'Jae Johnson finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Mikaylah Williams scored 14. Aneesah Morrow had a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Last-Tear Poa added 9 points. Jersey Wolfenbarger and Mjracle Sheppard both finished with 8 points each. Sa'Myah Smith and Jada Richard both contributed 6 each. The Lady Tigers started the game fast, racing out to an 18-4 lead. But Arkansas responded with an 8-0 run, cutting the score to 18-12 at the 2:40 mark. The first period would end with LSU leading, 23-14. LSU continued to pull away from the Lady Hogs, outscoring them, 28-12 in the second period to lead 51-26 at the half. The Lady Tigers shot 55% from the floor in the first half. They were 5-9 from three point land for 56%. Perfect from the free throw line, 4-4. LSU turned the ball over nine times while forcing Arkansas into 13. The Ben-Gals led the rebound battle, 22-13. Mikaylah Williams and Kailyn Gilbert both led the team at the break with 9 points each. Flau'jae Johnson and Jersey Wolfenbarger both scored 8 points each. Aneesah Morrow added 7 points. Last-Tear Poa scored 6 and Sa'Myah Smith finished the first half with 4 points. LSU started the second half with a 14-4 run to extend their lead to 65-30 at the 6:31 mark. The Lady Tigers continued their dominance over the Hogs going on a 18-6 run over the final 6:31 of the third period to take an 83-36 advantage into the final quarter. Arkansas would go on a 11-3 run to trim LSU's lead to, 86-47 with 7:00 left in the contest. LSU simply cruised the rest of the way for the blow out victory to improve to 16-0 overall and 1-0 in the SEC. Next up the Lady Tigers return home to host Auburn on Sunday, January 5 at 3:00 pm.
