Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The 5th ranked Lady Tigers (3-0) returned home to to Pete Maravich Assembly Center to play Charlotte on Wednesday night and came away with a dominating, 117-59 win. The Lady Tigers finished the night shooting, 35-71 from the floor for 49%. They were 10-20 from three point land. LSU had another solid night at the free throw line, sinking, 37-46 for 80%. The Lady Tigers won the rebound battle, 54-37. LSU committed 14 total turnovers on the night, while forcing the 49ers into 22. MiLaysia Fulwiley led the team in scoring with 22 points. Mikaylah Williams finished with 18. Flau'Jae Johnson added 16 points. Amiya Joyner had 15 points. ZaKiyah Johnson, Kate Koval and Grace Knox all contributed 10 points each. Bella Hines finished with 7. Kailyn Gilbert scored 6 points. Divine Bourrage added 2 points, while Meghan Yarnevich had 1 point. LSU had another great night defensively, holding Charlotte to only 28% shooting from the floor and blocking six shots. Mikaylah Williams got things going nine seconds into the contest, hitting a three pointer to put the Lady Tigers up quickly, 3-0. A scrappy Lady 49ers team played LSU tough over the first five minutes of the opening period. At the 4:41 official's timeout, the Lady Tigers held a 17-10 advantage. After the timeout, LSU turned things up a notch, going on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 24-10 at the 3:01 mark. The first period came to an end with the purple and gold Ben-Gals leading, 36-12. LSU simply exploded in the second period. Over the first six minutes of the quarter, the Lady Tigers went on a 14-1 run to increase their lead to 50-13 with 3:55 left in the first half. The first half came to an end with MiLaysia Fulwiley hitting a three pointer at the buzzer, putting LSU up by 45 points, 62-17 at the break. The Lady Tigers shot 20-37 from the floor for 54% over the first 20 minutes. They hit 9-14 from behind the arc for 64%. At the charity stripe, LSU sank 13-17 for 76%. LSU out-rebounded the 49ers in the first half, 29-20. The Lady Tigers forced Charlotte into 13 first half turnovers while only committing eight. MiLaysia Fulwiley led the team at the break with 17 points. Mikaylah Williams added 10. Flau'Jae Johnson scored 8 points. ZaKiyah Johnson and Kate Koval both contributed 6 points each. Amiya Joyner and Kailyn Gilbert both finished with 4 points each and Grace Knox added 2. Defensively, LSU held Charlotte without a basket for the entire second period. LSU began the second half out-scoring Charlotte, 14-8 to hold a 76-25 advantage at the 4:26 official's timeout. The Lady Tigers continued to dominate the contest, as they took a 90-34 lead into the final period. Over the first three minutes of the fourth period, LSU out-scored the 49ers, 10-1 to increase their advantage to 100-35 at the 6:54 official's timeout. Several bench players were able to see playing time in the fourth period, as the the Lady Tigers cruised the rest of the way to their, 117-59 victory. With the win, the Lady Tigers are now, 4-0 on the season. Next up, LSU will travel to New Orleans to play Tulane on Monday, November 17 at 6:00 pm.
