Weil DURHAM, NC - The #5 Lady Tigers took on the Duke Lady Blue Devils in North Carolina for the ACC/SEC Challenge and came away with a 93-77 victory. After a slow start, LSU raised their level of play in the second half for the dominating win. LSU finished the night shooting 60% from the field. They sank 5-11 from three point land for 45%. At the free throw line, the Lady Tigers hit, 14-16 for 88%. LSU out-rebounded Duke, 34-25. LSU turned the ball over 18 times, while Duke committed 19. Flau'Jae Johnson led the team with 18 points. MiLaysia Fulwiley finished with 16. Mikaylah Williams and Amiya Joyner both added 14 points each. Kate Koval had 13. Grace Knox scored 12 and Jada Richards had 6 points. The Lady Tigers started the contest completely out of sync, sputtering on offense while Duke exploded to an 11-1 lead, forcing Kim Maulkey to call a timeout at the 7:17 mark. LSU continued to sputter against a suffocating Duke defense, falling behind by 14, 17-3 with 6:15 left in the opening period. The Bayou Ben-Gals finally settled down and slowly chipped away at the Lady Blue Devils' lead, going on a 17-7 run to cut the lead to 24-20 at the end of the first period. LSU committed seven costly turnovers in the first quarter, along with Duke winning the rebound battle, 8-7. 24-20, Duke as we headed to the second period. LSU started the second period with a 6-0 run, to take their first lead of the contest, 26-24 at the 8:29 mark. The contest then turned into a shootout, with both teams shooting well, trading baskets. At the 4:55 official's timeout, the game was even at, 34-34. The LSU sleeping giant was finally awake, going on an 11-4 run over the next three minutes to build a 47-38 advantage. The Lady Tigers would take a 51-43 lead into the locker room for the halftime break. After a sluggish start, LSU ended up shooting 61% from the floor in the first half. They were 0-1 from behind the arc. At the charity stripe they sank, 13-15 for 87%. LSU out-rebounded Duke, 20-11. The Lady Tigers turned the ball over 12 times in the first half while Duke turned it over 11. MiLaysia Fulwiley led the team at the break with 14 points. Koval scored 9. Joyner had 8. Knox added 7. Richard contributed 6 points. Flau'Jae Johnson scored 5 and Mikaylah Williams had 2 points. Both teams played well to start the second half. At the 2:27 mark of the third period, both teams had played even, as LSU held an eight point advantage, 66-58. Mikaylah Williams sank a three pointer at the buzzer to end the third period, putting LSU up by ten, 71-61. With 6:05 remaining, LSU held a 79-67 advantage. The Lady Tigers took complete control of the game, going on a 14-5 run to take a 93-72 lead at the 2:34 mark. LSU simply ran clock down the rest of the way for the victory. With the win, the Lady Tigers improve to, 9-0 overall. Next up, LSU will head to New Orleans on Sunday, December 7, to take on UNO. Tipoff is set for 3:00 pm CST.
