Weil GREENVILLE, SC - LSU took on the Florida Gators in the Quarterfinal round of the SEC Tournament on Friday night and advanced to the Semi-finals with a 101-87 victory. The Lady Tigers played with focus and heart the entire night, never trailing in the game. They shot 51% from the floor on the night. They sank 5-14 from three point land for 36%. LSU had a solid night at the charity stripe hitting 22-28 for 79%. The Lady Tigers out-rebounded Florida, 41-31. Aneesah Morrow had an incredible night, scoring 36 points while grabbing 14 rebounds for a double-double. Mikaylah Williams scored 16 points. Miracle Sheppard finished with 12. Kailyn Gilbert dropped 10 points. Shayeann Day-Wilson and Sa.Myah Smith both added 7 points each. Del-Rosario contributed 5 points. Jersey Wolfenbarger scored 4. Last-Tear Poa had 2 and Jada Richard had 2 points. The Lady Tigers began the game with high energy and hustle, outscoring the Gators, 14-5 over the first five and a half minutes of the opening period. LSU would outscore Florida, 12-11 over the final 4:34 of the quarter to take a 26-16 lead into the second period. The Lady Gators started the second period with a quick 5-0 run, forcing LSU to call a timeout to catch their breath and slow things down. With 7:52 left in the half, LSU lead, 26-21. The Lady Tigers responded after the timeout with 7-0 run to extend their to 33-21. LSU dominated the final eight minutes of the half, outscoring Florida, 27-13 to lead 53-34 at halftime. The Bayou Ben-Gals played a solid first half, shooting 21-40 from the floor for 53%. They sank 4-9 from behind the three point arc for 44%. At the free throw line they hit 7-10 for 70%. LSU committed seven first half turnovers while forcing Florida into 13. The Lady Tigers out-rebounded the Gators, 23-14 Annesah Morrow led the team at the break with 16 points. Mikaylah Williams added 8 points. Kailyn Gilbert scored 7. Mjracle Sheppard and Sa’Myah Smith both had 5 points each. Jersey Wolfenbarger finished with 4 points and Aalyah Del-Rosario had 2 points. Florida opened the second half with a 9-2 run, cutting the LSU lead to 55-43 at the 7:21 mark. LSU would quickly regain the momentum, going on an 8-5 run over the next two minutes to take a 63-48 lead with 4:46 left in the third. As the third period came to and end, the Lady Tigers were in complete control, 78-62. LSU stayed in control of the contest over the first five minutes of the fourth period. With 5:16 left in the game, the Lady Tigers led, 93-77. The Lady Tigers coasted the rest of the way to earn victory for LSU and advance to the Semi-Finals against Texas on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
