LADY TIGERS DEFEAT NC STATE, 80-73; ADVANCE TO THE ELITE EIGHT

   SPOKANE, WA - LSU traveled to Spokane to take on NC State in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night. The Lady Tigers pulled out an 80-73 win to advance to the Elite Eight where they will meet either UCLA or Ole Miss on Sunday, March 30 at 2:00pm.

   
LSU finished the night shooting 43% from the floor. They finished 3-12 from behind the arc. The Lady Tigers had a solid game at the free throw line hitting, 13-17 for 76%. LSU out rebounded State, 52-36.   Morrow finished with 30 points and 19 rebounds for a double-double. Smith also rang up a double-double with 21 points and 11 boards. Williams finished with 19 points.

   NC State opened the scoring with an early three point basket just 16 seconds into the contest. LSU responded with six straight, taking a 6-3 lead at the 8:06 mark.

   Over the next five minutes, the Lady Tigers would go on a 15-7 run to build a 21-10 advantage at the 3:19 media timeout.

   The first period would come to an end with LSU leading, 23-15.

   NC State heated up in the second period, outscoring LSU, 19-11 during the first eight minutes to tie the game at 34-34.

   Over the final two minutes of the first half, State outscored the Lady Tigers, 6-2 to take a 40-36 lead into the halftime break.

   The Lady Tigers shot 40% from the floor in the first half. They hit 3-7 from three point range for 43%. They were 1-2 from the free throw line. LSU turned the ball over seven times to NC State’s five. The Bayou Ben-Gals led in rebounds, 17-16.
   Aneesah Morrow led the team at the break with 13 points. Sa’Myah Smith scored 10. Kailyn Gilbert added 7 points and Mikaylah Williams finished with 6.


   LSU began the third period on a 15-8 run to retake the lead, 51-48 with 4:37 left on the clock.

   The Lady Tigers maintained their lead, holding a 57-53 advantage as the third period came to an end.

   NC State began the fourth period outscoring LSU, 12-5 over the first four and a half minutes. At the 5:29 media timeout, The Wolfpack led, 65-62.

   LSU battled back to regain the lead late, 76-73 with only 44 seconds remaining in the contest.

   The Lady Tigers made their free throws the rest of the way while keeping NC State scoreless to earn an 80-73 victory.
