Weil BATON ROUGE, LA - The Lady Tigers took on Florida State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Monday afternoon and convincingly defeated the Lady Seminoles, 101-71 to advance to the sweet sixteen on Friday to take on NC State. LSU seriously raised their level of play in the second half to dominate the game. The Lady Tigers shot 56% from the floor for the game. They hit 3-10 three point attempts. They had a great day at the free throw line, making 16-17 for 94%. LSU turned the ball over 11 times while forcing FSU into 13. The Lady Tigers dominated on the boards, 46-37. The first five plus minutes of the game was fast and furious with both teams playing well and trading baskets. With LSU leading, 12-10, Mikaylah Williams hit a three pointer causing the crowd to erupt. Annesah Morrow followed with a quick basket to put the Lady Tigers up, 17-10 at the 4:24 mark, forcing Florida State to call a timeout. Over the final four minutes of the opening quarter the teams played even, 12-12. As we headed to the second period LSU held a 31-24 advantage. Florida State opened the second period on fire, outscoring LSU, 10-2 over the first two and a half minutes to take the lead, 34-33. LSU would respond with a 9-4 run over the next three minutes to retake the lead, 42-38 at the 4:38 official’s timeout. The final 4:38 of the half was fast and physical. FSU was able to outscore LSU 11-8, cutting the Lady Tigers’ lead to one, 50-49 at halftime. LSU shot 58% from the floor in the first half. They hit 2-4 from behind the arc. At the free throw line, they made 4-5. The Lady Tigers committed eight turnovers in the first half while FSU turned it over five times. LSU led in rebounding, 22-17. Annesah Morrow led the team at the break with 14 points. Mikaylah Williams scored 12. Sa’Myah Smith finished with 10 points. Jada Richard added 6. Kailyn Gilbert scored 4 points while Miracle Sheppard and Flau’Jae Johnson both finished with 2 points each. LSU opened the third period with an 8-2 run. FSU called a timeout at the 7:42 mark with the Lady Tigers up, 58-51. Over the next three minutes, LSU would go on an 8-4 run to increase their lead to 66-55 with 4:28 left in the period. LSU turned it up over the last four minutes of the third, outscoring FSU 15-0 to take an 81-55 advantage into the fourth quarter. The Lady Tigers had now taken complete control of the contest, building a 34 point lead, 91-47 with 7:05 left in the game.
