Weil GREENVILLE, SC - LSU drew a rematch with Oklahoma for their first contest of the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament and like in their first meeting, LSU won by a blow out, 112-78. LSU shot 53% from the field on the day. They had a great night from behind the three point arc, hitting 13-24 for 54%. At the free throw line they sank 15-25 for 60%. LSU led in rebounds, 47-45. Oklahoma turned the ball over 22 times while LSU had 18. Fulwiley led the team with 22 points. Flau'jae finished with 21 points. Williams added 14. Richard scored 13 points. Hines finished with 10. Z. Johnson and Knox scored 9 points each. Joyner contributed 7 points. Koval had 6 points and Bourrage scored 1 point. LSU came out playing fast and firing away, hitting their first five shots to take an early 12-3 lead at the 7:58 mark. At the 4:11 media timeout, LSU led, 19-13. Milaysia Fulwiley hit a shot at the buzzer to extend the Lady Tigers' lead to 28-19 as we headed to the second period. Oklahoma showed they were here to play, keeping the contest close, as eight LSU turnovers contributed to eight Lady Sooner points. At the 4:32 official's timeout, LSU led 35-30. Over the final four minutes of the half, LSU out-scored Oklahoma, 10-3 to lead 45-33 at halftime. LSU shot 17-32 from the field in the first half for 53%. They hit 5-9 from behind the arc for 56%. At the charity stripe they sank 6-10 for 60%. The Sooners won the first half rebound battle, 24-21. LSU committed 12 first half turnovers while forcing Oklahoma into 11. Defensively, LSU held Oklahoma to only 26% shooting from the field over the first 20 minutes. Willaims led the team at the break with 10 points. Fulwiley added 9. Koval scored 6 points. Flau'jae and Richard both had 5 points each. Joyner and Z. Johnson both finished with 4 points each and Knox added 2 points. Both teams traded baskets over the first four minutes of the third period, playing even as LSU maintained their 12 point advantage, 58-46 at the 4:50 media timeout. The Lady Tigers shifted into an extra gear and began to pull away from the Sooners, going on a 12-3 run to end the third period, leading, 72-49. LSU was firing on all cylinders, keeping the accelerator to the floor, extending their lead to 29 points, 86-57 at the 7:28 mark. The Ben-Gals continued to pour it on the Sooners, running away with the contest in blow out fashion for the victory. Next, LSU will rematch #1 seed South Carolina on Saturday, March 7 at 3:30pm.
